I wish I could be excited, but again...the game key card situation makes most third parties so unappealing on Switch 2. I'm a special case obviously, because I own over 400 Switch games, so I loved supporting the system prior, and love my physical media. However, game key cards spit in the face of people like me. I was even being generous around the launch of Switch 2 because I got a few game key cards. You know what happened? I can't even fit them all on the fucking system at once, even with an extra 256gb sd card on top of the internal storage. They are literally offloading the cost of storage to the consumer with this move.

I'm someone who doesn't agree with the "buy Nintendo consoles for Nintendo games only" mentality. I wouldn't have as many Switch 1 games as I do if I did. But game key cards make greedy publishers panties' wet because they can have best of both worlds. Have a retail presence and basically be all digital at the same time. While the customer gets the worst of both worlds. Doesn't own the game physically (for those who want it physically), and still has to put a physical cart in the system (for those who love the convenience of digital).

I know most people hate all the late ports, but for me, I'd gladly rebuy certain titles to have them on the Switch 2...but they go and ruin that appeal with game key cards. I would be there right away for stuff like Elden Ring and FF7 Remake on Switch 2 if I could have a full physical copy like Cyberpunk 2077 is. It's really making the Switch 2 feel like a Switch 1 Pro for me, because it's just gonna be used as a way to play some Switch games with better performance, and that makes me sad.

how many of your 400 games requires an mandatory download ?

In my experience, they pretty much all do

What game key cards do you own that won't fit on 512gb of storage?

I have CP2077, MK and Donkey Kong plus a fuck ton of my switch games installed and still have room left.

Just because a game gets a small patch doesn't mean they are mandatory. Also this idea of "all games require downloads" is such an annoying piece of misinformation. Go to www.doesitplay.org , most of my games are on the "yes" list of they play without a download.

What kind of finding did he actually find to list Borderlands 4, the official release date statement which we already got ?
Translated from the linked post
Good news for Switch 2 players: after pre-orders opened on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series, Borderlands 4 is finally about to begin pre-orders on Nintendo's hybrid console. The game will be priced at $69.99 USD (the price in euros remains to be confirmed) and will come in a physical edition, likely in the form of a game key. As a reminder, the release is scheduled for October 3, 2025, three weeks after other platforms.

No I mean the « download required » I can see on pretty much every big 3rd party title's case

EDIT: yeah I typed like 10 games I own, 1 appeared on the website, it's far from being up to date

Yakuza 0, Street Fighter 6, Bravely Default, Kunitsu-Gami, Hitman, Sonic X Shadow Generations, plus stuff like Fortnite, and some patches for Switch 1 games. I think I did download something like Doom Eternal to check out performance at one time, so that might've been a reason that it ran out of space also. Still...I was damn close to full with just the few I have.

25 mins so, 8 games of various quality, a sizzle reel of 7 games two of which look cool but have no details because it's in the reel and then 1 "big" thing that's 5 years out of date like RDR2.

Dude thats like 200gb max.

And once again, for most of my games...it's not a problem. The amount of games I own that maybe have a download required on the case is maybe in the teens. Like Borderlands, bioshock, Batman trilogy, resident evil games...I have so few that I can barely think of any.

Meanwhile, the amount of games that don't require that I have is endless. Just starting from the top...13 sentinals, all the atelier rpgs, bayonetta trilogy, burnout paradise, chrono cross, final fantasy games, including my japanese version of x/x-2 (doesn't even require a patch), even something like red dead redemption has no patch required. Ninja Gaiden Trilogy, etc etc...the list is really too long to go into.

Think we are going to be very disappointed here.

Its going to be stuff thats already known Outlaws, EAFC etc with possibly one or two announcements.

I have it physically, so I don't know why it doesn't count ? they re-released it when 3 came out, so it's no more limited than bayonetta 2 was.

Cause it was a very limited special edition released months or even a year after the initial release, and only sold on Nintendo's shop. I bought the game when it released on Febryary 2018, and 1 was a download code, which is how pretty much everybody experienced the game.

It's like saying there are no performance issues on Switch 1 games cause you overclocked yours

Okay so can you buy it now ? If yes, then you'd be right. If no, and if your only option is to buy 2 with 1 in download code, then no
What the hell is wrong with your brain? Just because something something may or may not be "limited" doesn't mean it doesn't count. The option was there. Game key cards take away all options. Yes, some of my full physical games are shit from places like limited run which are more limited than bayonetta 1 ever was...but that doesn't mean that doesn't count as me owning it physically. You really just seem like you're arguing for the sake of arguing and moving the goal post to fit your arguments. In other words...you're a moron, and I'm gonna block you now.

I don't know what to tell you, but this is my current storage, and I don't even have all my games downloaded. Yakuza 0, and Bravely Default are not even installed as far as my game key cards. Those would easily top off my SD storage, cuz I know Yakuza 0 was like 50gb almost, and another 13gb for BD. I had also deleted my update data for Civilization 7 Switch 2 version. Even still, I was damn close to be topped off and we're just 2 months into the system's launch.

Yeah, it's gonna be a big problem with Switch 2 games due to their size. 1TB of storage is the minimum needed for gaming in 2025.

Maybe crossed wires because you said:

  • Hitman: World of Assassination – Signature Edition

  • No Sleep For Kaname Date – From AI: The Somnium Files
  • Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S
  • Raidou Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army
  • Shine Post: Be Your Idol [game only available in Japan]
  • Sonic x Shadow Generations
  • Star Wars Outlaws
  • Street Fighter 6
  • Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster

I think the 3rd parties of the industry have never been more incentivized to jump on a new console bandwagon than right now. The sequel to Switch is fresh out and selling gangbusters?

Right now is the PERFECT time to jump in ahead of the frenzy and get your software on this thing.

Which is another reason why I think we're going to be seeing a lot of Gen 8 console ports - they're already done and just need to exist on Switch 2 to ride this wave. Bonus points if they actually take the time to enhance them for the new hardware; would give them a slight sales edge over the competition who is trying to do the same thing.

I guess I should have been clear it wasn't entirely because of the game key cards, but I still did run out of space very quickly from just a few games, and a few Switch 1 games. I was doing a lot of testing of Switch 1 games at launch, and many impossible ports that didn't run the best on Switch 1 were download only, or had download required stuff. As mentioned before, i downloaded Doom Eternal at one point which is over 30gb, Borderlands 3 which is also around 17gb with a physical copy, xcom 2 as you can see over 20gb...the patch for pokemon scarlet is like 5gb. Just so quickly to run out of space, which I think makes having games on the cart all the more important for Switch 2, because we need more games to use a 64gb card so we can install the damn thing without having to constantly micro-manage our storage. I have a 1.5tb sd card in my switch 1 so storage was never a problem, but I feel like with the size of these Switch 2 games, even if I had the same size on Switch 2, i'd run out of space even on that size if I supported all the game key cards I wanted.

I belive we'll see Gen 8 games only if they have enhanced versions most of the time, and that most of the ports will be Gen 9 games.

...and the Switch 2 only came out 2 months ago. This is why game key cards suck. Games used to be on the cards and you didn't have to download and install them.

I got a 1 TB card a while ago for Switch 1. Worth it.
