Nintendo Downloads - August 2015

Can't wait for those to also get cancelled three weeks after their original release date!

Freedom Planet wasn't cancelled. Do you want to purchase and download a broken game or should we perhaps give the team the time they need to fix the issues the game is having?

The reaction to the Freedom Planet delay in here has been silly. It's a crash bug that only appears in retail Wii U systems which is why they didn't catch in with their dev unit tests. Indie devs don't have infinite QA resources so this simply takes a while.

it BETTER come to the US or let me import it.

It's a HAL game. I'd be astonished if it didn't.

Come on now, Freedom Planet is not cancelled. Just delayed until they fix the bug, unfortunately :(

Cancelled is literally their word, not mine.

I keep buying these Nicalis games so apparently buying games that lock up the system doesn't faze me.

My reaction to them saying the game was cancelled was to say it was cancelled. What a monster I am!

They never said the game was canceled. They said the "launch is canceled." They chose poor wording to say they're postponing the release until the thing is fixed so they're not announcing any tentative dates. That is all they've said. The game is still coming. That is why I'm saying reactions making it sound worse than it is or like some enormous fuck-up have been silly.

How to bugs only occur on retail units? Memory differences?

Would anyone share how QA goes for these more indie like titles? Do you post the game bundle to a server and DL it to a retail Wii for final QA?

New indie games being announced on the 27th at some event called Nindies@Night.

Gonna assume it's some higher-profile ones considering they're hyping it up on Twitter.
Guessing that they're going to announce Pix The Cat there. Dev did a french interview a few months ago and said that it's coming to Wii U there, but never formally announced it on twitter or anything.

Oh wow, that is cool. One of the few games on PS4 I felt like I'm missing out on. Hope we see Octodad soon, too--I know that was formally announced but I haven't heard anything about it in a while.

I bet Pix The Cat would work GREAT with 3D, but I don't know if the screen would be big enough on the 3DS....though then again, playing it on Vita worked fine.

Via Xseed's Twitter:

"SENRAN KAGURA 2 Deep Crimson reaches North America 9/15! Download digitally via eShop for $39.99 or grab the physical DD Edition for $49.99!

Haven't tried the prequel, SENRAN KAGURA Burst? Now's your chance! Burst is on sale for $19.99 from today till 9/15."

Kind of rare for a digital version to be cheaper than retail, but retail also counts as a special edition considering you get 2 discs worth of music, and it's most likely a lot of tracks considering the last CD Xseed included with a retail version, it had a whopping 39 tracks.

The game is even cheaper in EU, 29.99€ as a download from the eShop.

Wahoo! Thanks MrV!!

Just a PSA about Elliot Quest. The latest patch introduced a game stopping bug. It completely freezes up at the start of the final boss fight. Checked Miiverse and it's not just me. It's unfinishable in it's current state.

Normally I'd just assume a new patch was surely on the works but this is an indie game on a Nintendo console so it may be months before it's fixed or maybe it will never be fixed. Buyer beware.

That's not silly, the Steam versions of games are fixed much more quickly than the console versions in general and Nintendo console versions in particular.

Actually, I've been waiting for months for Elliot Quest to work properly before buying it, but now I'm planning to simply buy the Steam version, like for Aban Hawkins.

in re: Elliot Quest--

Patch is coming tomorrow morning!!

So is this like a cross between Nobunaga's Ambition and Inindo? I've played both of those but not Genghis Khan.
Just Nobunaga's Ambition/Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

Koei made several different kinds of games with that same framework (with Nobunaga and Romance being the ones that lasted). Even the American Revolution got that treatment.

Yeah for sure, I was just curious because the combat looks different.

Damn Koei, I miss Aerobiz.

This looks really cool. Was this on the Wii VC in NA?

I'm thinking of getting Genghis Khan since I've been on a Koei kick lately, playing some Warriors games. Is it a good game?

They changed the sprites out, but it otherwise plays the same.

Honestly, the bigger thing here is that we are getting yet another SNES game, which I guess means that the one Natsume person's statement was definitely misunderstood.

I kinda figured that'd mean we get less, not none.

Though it's still rotten news in light of how many games are still MIA. Namely SE's output, it's especially a shame Quintet's post-Actraiser content hasn't been rereleased.

what is the deal with Ace attorney trilogy and the one for the 3ds? 29 bucks? damn it. Do they go on sale often?? I don't want to pay that much for a digital version of the game, and it's been out for almost 2 years

Some thoughts on this week's releases/sales:

Life of Pixel is 30 percent off (reduced from $9.99 to $6.99) until 8:59 a.m. PT on Sept. 3.

Very charming game. The game is broken up by "system," so you can play Amiga-inspired levels, GB-inspired levels, etc. It seems there is a good deal of content, and levels do feature collectibles. My issue with the game is that some of the systems are too archaic to be fun, for me. I got burned out on the levels I played because I started with the earliest systems on offer, and jumping between screens and having each screen load "individually," even if this happens quickly, is kinda (literally) headache-inducing for me in its archaic-ness. I like the game, though, and I want to try the later systems' levels. They're all unlocked from the get-go. Still befuddled how this game isn't a copyright nightmare, with Atari, Nintendo, Sega and other systems on display. For $7 I think it's worth the price if you don't feel like antiquated systems' graphical quirks will bother you. At its core, a very solid and fun platformer.

Just curious what this sale is. Not sure if there are any Capcom games out there of interest to me, but maybe some MM VC stuff could entice me. I wonder if the upcoming Legacy Collection will be a better deal regardless, though. (Fake edit: holy crap, it's $15? Thought it was $20. Stellar deal. Hope there are save states and hard saves, though.)

Woah Dave! (Nintendo eShop on Wii U)

I think this gem is free for those of us with the 3DS version.

The Nintendo Life review says it best, really:

Dave Letcavage said:
It doesn’t take long to get an encompassing look at what Woah Dave has to offer, and while it does what it does in a commendable fashion, it’s not redefining the genre or reinventing the wheel — and that’s absolutely okay. It’s very clear that the developer wanted to make an arcade-style game that harkens back to the classics you played on Atari, NES, or at your local pizza joint all those years ago. Even the home screen icon is of an arcade cabinet, and it’s a mighty comforting sight upon unwrapping the game. If you’re into high-score chasing time-killers, then Woah Dave deserves your consideration. It’s fun, it’s polished, and it’s called Woah Dave. That’s a name we (this reviewer in particular) can get behind.

Full review: http://www.nintendolife.com/reviews/3ds-eshop/woah_dave

Game is just pure fun chaos. Excellent for pick-up-and-play. Pretty addictive. I am not huge on arcade-y experiences usually but man, is this game just plain fun. It very much feels like a spiritual successor to the original arcade Mario Bros. I used to find that game very addictive when included with the Super Mario Advance games, especially the original. There is something about reaching the subsequent levels that taps into that primal gaming urge of "just one more run." Woah Dave! offers a delightful spin on that same concept, and at the price of half a simple haircut, you can keep growing your hair out and make it stand on end instead, as the difficulty ramps up with as your score increases. (Apologies for the ridiculous comparison.)
