Happy New Year all, and here's hoping we all have to expand storage again in 2016.

I just got engaged so my gaming $$ for spending is gonna be considerably lower this year, but man I'm really excited for Final Fantasy Explorers!

2016 should bring us some answers regarding just what the heck NX is gonna be too lol.

My New Year's resolution is to buy some good Virtual Console games from Nintendo of America.

Seriously though, looking forward to a good 2016! Some really good indies should drop this year.

So, random shower thought, I think I just had some insight about why Microsoft probably did the forced bundle thing with Minecraft.

So I remembered someone mentioning how there was a $30 bundle option available on other consoles alongside the standard $20 release. I looked those up, and saw that they seemed largely similar to the $30 Wii U edition. What I realized is that Microsoft is actually unable to do the same bundle setup on Wii U due to the way the eShop is set up.

See, back when Guitar Hero and Rock Band were first implementing DLC on the Wii, one of the big sticking points was that there would be no bundles, since duplicate content was strictly forbidden under Nintendo's policies. Eventually they found a workaround (having the bundles be meta-DLC which included the standalone versions) and Nintendo appears to have been satisfied enough with that solution that they actually made it official on Wii U and 3DS.

However, Minecraft can't do that, since it is bundling DLC with a game, rather than DLC with other DLC. So Microsoft was forced to make a choice between only selling the standalone game or only selling the bundle and, for whatever reason, they chose the bundle.

You can buy Smash DLC standalone or in a bundle, same for Hyrule Warriors and Mario Kart 8. Sure, none of this games are pure 3rd party but it would be really weird of Nintendo to prevent only 3rd parties from doing bundles.

Maybe MS wanted to get the game out asap and Nintendo's certification process seemed too slow, so they bundled everything in to only have to pass certification once instead of submitting each individual piece of DLC separately.

EDIT: Missed your last sentence. Yes, game+dlc is a different situation. They should have just sold the game + DLC bundle separately.

MS just want the desperates' money, maybe for quickly or safely getting dev costs back in, and the included DLC is to justify the price.

On another note, holy shit is The Swindle fun! I'll even forgive the freeze.

Oh and Happy New Year.

Interestingly, you can buy NSMBU+NSLU if you already own NSMBU disc+NSLU DLC, but you can't buy NSMBU digital without NSLU. I'm not sure if it was ever available digitally or if it would even make a price difference though.

It's literally a different game SKU in their system. Makes no sense from our perspective but that's just how it works^^

Happy new year guys, time really does fly by so fast.

Looking forward to Paper Jam this month and some eshop surprise goodness.

Might even try to get Final Fantasy Explorers.

New Super Mario Bros U was delisted the second the bundle was made available. It's still in the system, you just can't get it if you don't already have it.

Happy new year !

Thanks for the tips in last month's thread. I set up my Wii on the HDTV and my mom let me use her credit card for Wii Points.

Mega Man 9 is super hard though. I'm hoping 10 is easier. The music in 9 is pretty good though.

10 literally has an insulting baby mode.

Easy mode, I hear. I will probably play on it for the first time at least. I tend to play games on the easiest difficulty, because I am a baby. Lol

There's no shame in your game unless you take it as shame.

It's stupid easy though! The game is maybe slightly less difficult than 9 on normal. Bass also makes the game easier.

OK. Well, "stupid hard" came to mind when playing 9 for the first time. I'd rather have stupid easy than stupid hard...

There were some moving platforms that disappear with spikes under them, I died there two or three times. In Splash Woman's stage, I think. I heard you could start there.

Edit: I beat Gravity Man! Yay.

I'm still surprised at the lack of Super Mario RPG in North America.

In fact, I wonder how NoA handles the Virtual Console service. Do they have a dedicated team that plans out the releases? Or do they put out the games immediately after they test them? Do they look at sales data from the Wii Shop when selecting games?

Perhaps they simply forget about certain titles sometimes? Maybe they could have finished a title or two and forgot to push them out.

It's something odd to think about.

So will US And Europe get super Mario Advanced 4 super Mario Bros 3 with e-Reader Levels just like Japan gets? I sure Hope so Cause i really want to Play those Levels :)

We do have some cases where NoA clearly held back certain games to use as special releases. Most notably Super Mario Bros 3.

For me, the highlight here is Super Mario Advance 4 release with all the e-Reader levels. All 38 levels are present including the rare level "Mad Dash" (unofficial name).

They even hacked the game to make all the levels present at once (there was a limit of 32 playable levels, up to 72 records total). Gotta love the efforts!

If they know how to hack Super Mario Advance 4, they should know how to mess with the US and Europe versions (which contains World-e, even if inaccessible by default).
Here's a video of World-e in french from Europe version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1NiB-9Y12Y

I linked to that in last month's thread, yea.

The only problem is, they haven't brought any of the SMAdvance games to EU at all yet -.-

And of course they know how to :)
They've been playing with the roms to add stuff for a while (like adding the WFC-only items in Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon's VC version and stuff).

They brought Super Mario Advance 3: Yoshi's Island in Europe.

And the problem is that they know to hax, but they don't always do that.
Though lately, with Mega Man Battle Network and Medabots, they gave us access to what is usually Japan or promotional only content, and I mean in both US and Europe.

Very happy about both 1080 and Wave Race being brought back for Europe and this time the American releases! Just wondering however do the games still suffer from that dark screen? Wave Race trailer is a bit darker, but 1080 seems uneffected...

Happy New Year, NintenGAF!

It's 2016. Where are ma NX infos, Nintendo?

I think we should be getting quarter results soon, no? End of the month. I'd expect a strong hint about a reveal timeline at that point. Then a full reveal by April (the only month with a 🐒 in it) at the latest.

I addressed this at the end of the December thread. Albeit with some confusion (read: stupidity on my part):

Nintendo does have a bit of a habit of making major announcements in January. I don't know if we'll get a big January blowout this year, but, the very least, they'll probably say something before GDC. Stuff will start leaking around then anyway, plus major portions of Nintendo's new online services are supposed to launch around then.

Mega Man 9 and 10 are both fantastic sequels. It's like getting two amazing, brand new Capcom NES games loaded with extra features, enjoy!

It's sad to think how much things have changed since 2008/09 with certain companies. We were getting brand new "8-bit" Mega Man games, Konami was still doing cool stuff like the Rebirth series on Wii Ware, 7 years later and Capcom has buried Mega Man and Konami....yeah, 'nuff said. :(

Yeah, I liked Mega Man 10 a lot! I beat it on easy mode, which was definitely pretty easy compared to 9 at least. 9 is super hard. It's one of the hardest in the series in my opinion. I'll try to beat 10 on normal mode later.

I think technology moves on too fast. The Wii got replaced by the WiiU pretty quickly (at least that's the way it seems). I know it's not unusual, but it still seems fast. However, I am excited to hear more about the NX.

Mega Man isn't entirely dead... I will defend this. There's the Legacy Collection which people stream on twitch.tv and that is releasing on the 3DS in February. I'm excited about it even though I've played 1-6 several times. It just seems like a cool package, so I hope it's good on 3DS.

I never played any of the Konami Rebirth games but I have played Castlevania, Contra, and Gradius games before. I would only be really interested in them if I found out that they're not terribly hard...

9 relies on bottomless pits and insta-kill traps way too much. Part of the reason why I like 10 more.

I wish there were 3DS ports of MM9/10 and the ReBirth games. Or more ReBirth games, at least.

Happy Late New Year fellow Nintendo Downloaders!

So I can confirm that KORG DSN-12 is the shit and well worth the money. I've already created some "phat loops" and "sick beats" that will make you want to "get down". I would definitely recommend M01D to any casual/first time users though, it's much easier to get into than the former.

I agree the NX seems to arriving "too soon" (assuming it releases in 2016) but Nintendo has little choice given how badly the Wii U has done.

I don't own Castlevania Rebirth, but I do own Gradius Rebirth and Contra Rebirth. They are tough but not frustrating, definitely give them a try. I would buy Gradius first to give you an idea of what they're like. They were made for Konami by M2, aka the greatest old school porting and emulation experts known to man.

I do wonder if we'll get NX news before E3. Maybe a Nintendo event to show off the console beforehand and a big games blowout at the expo itself.
