Nintendo E3 2012 Conference Thread

Still worries me that they haven't announced anything.

Agree. I wonder if there is a chance they are really looking towards Wii U/720/PS4 and developing accordingly. Probably too good to be true.

The same reason they showed like 10 colors for the Wii.
And the PS3.

Easy way to gauge for future promotional/hardware interest after plans for launch are already in place. Or to gauge in the rare case of your launch color(s) are terribly received, and to correct accordingly.

When they started with Pikmin I got really excited. I thought, "Oh shit, if that's what they're starting with what do they have for the rest of the show?!" I thought Pikmin was just the tip of the iceberg including graphically. Turns out it was pretty much the best thing out of the entire conference.

Yeah all the hype over the past year and then when I saw the video start with the pre-recorded Pikmin bit in my head I was like this is going to be amazing.

:(

Love hearing the podcasts after the conferences, IGN Voice Chat and Gametrailers podcasts had the same reactions as everyone.

I've read a article on a Dutch site and the guy was claiming that "the environments looks noticeably better than anything we have seen on PS3 and Xbox 360".

Wat was he smoking? Pikmin 3 looks just ok, nothing to write home about.
The environments do look nice, for what they're supposed to be. But like I said, not supposed to be a graphical showcase and it doesn't hold a candle to many of the environments we've seen in PS3/360 games over the past few years in terms of fidelity and art (IMO).

Um, guys? Where's HylianTom? Did N-Conf break him? GAF search says his last post was on the first page of this thread.

If anything happened to him, I'm coming for you, Satoru!

Hey all I'm about to go to sleep but someone needs to post David Gibson's tweets from an NOA meeting happening right now. He just confirmed some form of friend codes for the wii u and some 3ds stats.

The full Wii reveal at E3 2006 was actually fantastic compared to most press conferences and especially the full reveal of the Wii U.

- A highlight reel showing loads of new games
- Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (how a core game can use the Wii remote and nunchuck)
- First Metroid Prime 3 footage
- First Super Mario Galaxy footage
- On stage Red Steel presentation (ok the game didn't turn out great but at the time it was an exclusive Wii fps using the new control scheme for the first time)
- On stage Wii Sports battle (showed off the controller fantastically well and didn't need a 15 minute long explanation)

This got everyone excited for the console. Compare that with the Wii U.

Nintendo knew games like Metroid Prime 3 and Galaxy wouldn't be ready for launch but they still showed them and in playable form. They built anticipation of what was to come and gave you confidence that if you bought the Wii at launch, the next year would have some great games coming as well.

yeah and queuing up games on your smartphone and it downloading automatically on your Wii U so your game will already be dl'd when you get home. I'm too lazy to make the thread.

So what is the prevailing theory why Nintendo held back showing their powerhouse titles and the lack of games by third parties being presented?

Dev kits had something extra not expected?
Nintendo doesn't know how to make HD games?

Here is my theory regarding Nintendo: they saw the Sony and MS press conference and didn't feel threatened. There was a chance that either of them would show something regarding their next consoles, but that didnt happen, and a lot of content shown was already known, or sequels to running franchises. So Nintendo showed the bare minimum. And what they did show, even cartoony games like Nintendoland, were titles with deep gameplay. There really wasn't the simple WiiSports title to attract casuals.

Im sure many think they have lost their way, but I think Nintendo is rope-a-doping.

A lot of fans might be pissed off right now, but Nintendo knows fans have short memories, and when they show them the goods, later on this year, they will get them back

.

The conference started off so good with Miyamoto is his dressing room and then the stage walk out, Pikmin, calling Reggie and Bill with a whistle... haha

Oh gosh so lovely!! ♥

The same reason they showed like 10 colors for the Wii.

Very different. The multi-coloured Wiis were shown when the system was known as the Revolution and the moment it became the Wii they only showed white.

On the other hand WiiU was only shown in white to start with and now they've introduced black.

I don't care how many times this has been posted, I'm still dyin.

where are all the discussions about the possible meaning of this?

I've asked multiple times but nobody has commented yet..

Is it a self-commentary? Is Iwata acknowledging everyone must think he's gone bananas right now?

Or is it a hint that we'll get a mariokart minigame in nintendoland (he mentions hints about the remaining 7 games in this video)

anyone?

From Nintendo's Facebook/Twitter:
"E3 is a marathon, not a sprint. So we’re kicking off a marathon of game content! Starting right now, we’ll be delivering info about a new game every hour for the next 26.2 hours. Can you keep up? Don’t get left in the dust!"

Does this mean NEW games or just info about the games they've already announced this week?

I think that was shown right after/before they played the Donkey Kong Crash demo thingie.

In other news, Nintendo just posted on its facebook that E3 is more like a marathon then a sprint, and that, like a marathon, they'll show a new game every hour starting soon.

It's probably badly worded and they're going to release press kits of the gamea already shown previously, but there may just be some damage control in there...

Edit: apparently news goes stale really fast when you're on the toilet trying to post from your cellphone..

Perhaps the first twelve games will each be featured in Nintendoland!

I'm dehyping myself even further in the hopes of being pleasantly surprised by Retro's game and by TimeSplitters 4

Rumor has it that the first 12 games will be Nintendoland Wii U and the other 14 will be Nintendoland 3DS.

It's just current stuff. First link is to an AC3 developer interview.

100% this.

The reveal of Wii included (1) a simple and powerful concept, (2) new IP based on this concept, like Wii Sports, (3) existing IP transformed by this concept, like Metroid Prime 3, and (4) upcoming heavy-hitters like Galaxy.

This is how you demonstrate the power of an innovative concept and instill confidence in the future of a new console.

The WiiU reveal does almost none of this. We got (1) a convoluted series of concepts, (2) weak demonstrations of its value for software, and (3) no sense of future titles.

Fail.

This gives me flashbacks of the ebay $500 Wii sales that offered "eleven exciting games!", because they were sold with Wii Sports and Wii Play.

That's it, I'm going into Alternate Universe #628, where Nintendo had a good E3.

~~~
Oh, wow, game 1 is "Wrecking Crew: Maximum Carnage"? Looks like it plays like a "Blast Corps" clone, but I have no probs with that! You'd think that Nintendo would be finished after their already solid conference.
Hmm, four player multiplayer knockdowns of city blocks, both local and online. That mechanic where you can temporarily increase the tensile strength of buildings outside your own zone is pretty interesting. I know that people are going to hate on the game not having weapons and not actually involving destroying your opponent's vehicle, but I personally can live with that.
From Nintendo meeting:
Titles listed are for this holiday and/or early next year, have planned miyamoto/iwata titles beyond that including franchises and new ones
Does anyone think Pikmin 3 looks better then any PS3 or 360 game?
I thought it looked damn good too, graphically speaking. I won't say it looks better than any PS3 or 360 game, because I don't think that's true, but I am kinda surprised that people are downplaying its visuals.
Lmao. I remember this. It was so terrible. People did the same think with Wii Sports Resort and Wii Play when they sold them individually. I can see it happening with the Wii U and Nintendoland as well.
