Nintendo Switch 2 has the worst launch day titles of any system in my gaming life.

I just got turned away from the Nintendo NYC event because my plus 1 was a guy.

The couple in front of me without passes got in, I asked why, guy at the door said because they came in as a family. I asked him how he could tell whos family or not, and he said we didn't look gay to him. Insane.
Not gay enough for Nintendo, lmao

I mean that stinks, bro.

I don't think it's the worst, but certainly not very good. That said I've never cared much about what's available at launch. If launch sucks I just wait for what I want before diving in. Now if we're a year or two into the console lifespan and there's still nothing, then I start raising eyebrows.

There are way too many things to play already. Don't need to be a day 1 buyer.

It's kind of interesting, I think in the enthusiast bubble most people think Mario Kart is somewhere between "okay" and "good". But the masses go ape shit for Mario Kart. It's a top 5 all time franchise. GTA, Mario Kart, Minecraft, and it accomplishes that while being exclusive.

I also would personally much prefer a new Zelda or 3D Mario but Mario Kart is a much bigger deal than either of those. It would be literally impossible for them to launch with a more important 1st party title.

The rest of the lineup isn't very interesting if you've owned non-nintendo devices on the past gen, but only one month until Donkey Kong and I'm sure they have more to show soon. Maybe we get a big "E3" blowout Direct in June that talks about their plans for Holiday releases.

Has there been confirmation about a Switch 2 TV yet, or it is just hopes and dreams. That also does nothing to help solve the Switch Lite family situation. People as a whole have moved to mobile rather than gaming on a PC or in front of a TV. You can't take that cheaper TV box and play it during a cross country drive or flight. Sure you can play in tabletop mode, but yay, a GBA sized view will really show off the graphics of that $80 game on the new $450 system.

Nintendo also stalled preorders in the US due to the tariffs. We'll see what the real price ends up being. Nintendo really should have launched last fall, with the tariffs and economic uncertainty, it won't hit as wide of an audience. It will still sell out to the diehards, but it won't have the momentum it could have had.
Hope and dreams. But, it does seem extremely likely do to costs. It would be the cheapest way, short of streaming and cloud, where you could get Switch 2 in front of people.

Much like when I bought a PS5 at launch, the first couple of years will mostly consist of me playing all the games I missed out on with the previous console.

So for people like me it's a good buy, if I'd played every Nintendo first party game I wouldn't bother for a while. It's not worth $600 to play Mario Kart.

Mario Kart at launch in June. DK in July. Zelda Warriors 2 in August. Prime 4 in September. An unnanounced game revealed at their June Direct for October. Pokemon in November. Possible Monolithsoft game for early Dec. Gamecube games on day 1. Next gen patches for both Switch Zelda's on day one. Sounds good to me :)

Zelda Warriors was listed as Winter...
I think Prime is prob August. Hope.

Should have said you're like Mario and Luigi family.

Not really shocked Metroid is not ready for launch but no traditional Mario is strange.

Not really, Mario missed the GC launch, Wii Launch and Switch, usually Zelda fills that void and for GC it was Luigi's Mansion

Most people never played the obscure PS3 game. It was a new exclusive for the vast majority of PS5 buyers at launch. And is still the GOAT. On the other hand the vast majority of Switch gamers have already played Mario Kart to death. MK8 will be sufficient for many families for years to come for their kids.

Most people didn't play the PS5 remake of the PS3 game either.

It's already looking bad. Mario kart can't save the reality. It sure will sell but this thing is rightfully getting planned.

If Sony and Microsoft get hell for ports and crap then Nintendo said hold my beer with the same old Nintendo playbook and stupid pricing.
Yep especially when they could see beforehand. Ps and others didnt have that advantage as they are always 1st.

See, that's the problem with that line of thought. When does Nintendo ever do what makes sense and would make them even more money?

Without a western head like Reggie that isn't afraid to to take a hard stance, they've regressed back to just the Japanese heads running the show. And what works for Japan, does not work for most other places.

Maybe they just need the masses to remind them.

I'm not convinced it's the worst. XBSX had a indie flight game, and Gears Tactics. PS5 had a controversial remake of a really good ps3 game, Godfall, and Sackboy.

If I was buying a console for a kid, S2 for sure. If I was buying one for myself, I wouldn't buy any of them.

2 first party new games, 1 first party cross-gen but still new game and a bunch of third party shit.

Not just that but the 3 first-party games complement each other quite well: MK for the casuals and kids, Metroid for the real gamerboys and DK for all the in between.

I think I've seen way worse and believe it will sell like hotcakes.

I'm having a very strange day. The whole thing was strange. Everyone was super nice except for this one guy.

Definitely an abysmal launch lineup, certainly one of the worst in Nintendo history and console history in general

Mario Kart better be a 10/10 masterpiece given it's the only game and it's $90 for crying out loud.

Shame on Nintendo for putting them in that awkward position
More salt sir?

This sort of thread is just pure bait. When the PS5 launched it did not have a great amount of games. But the fans were excited for it. Why would someone want to hate on that...I just do not understand this forum sometimes.

What exclusives did the SS/SX launch with?
I only considered buying one for halo infinite and that game got delayed a whole year.

Hell, the only game i bought for ps5 at launch was demon souls.

Mario Kart is good, but it's never going to have the pull or prestige of a new landmark 3D Mario or Zelda game.
the sales say otherwise lmao

Mario Kart has outsold every other Nintendo game. It is literally THE best selling Nintendo game of the past decade.
It has more pull amongst casuals than any other game in their repertoire- Mario Odyssey, BOTW, TOTK, even Smash sold only half.
they all tremble at Mario Kart's feet

As someone else pointed out, Age of Imprisonment is listed as winter, so it's not the August game. Kirby Air Riders has to go somewhere too. But that does still potentially leave room for one unannounced game.

I'm thinking hoping:
August: Metroid Prime 4
September: Kirby Air Riders
October: ????
November: Pokemon Legends Z-A
December: Age of Imprisonment

Sales have little to do with prestige. How many game of the year awards has a Mario kart game won? Metroid Prime Remastered is arguably one of the best Metroid games of all time, and it's sitting at a pitiful 1.4ish million sales. That means that less than 10% of switch owners ever bothered.

When a new Mario kart comes out, cool.

When a new mainline Zelda or 3D Mario come out, it's an event. They're talked about for years. MK exists in the cultural zeitgeist because it's an easy party game to play with your family and friends. That's why it sells well. That's not a bad thing. It's just not the same thing.

There are ten thousand android phones released a year, but when a new iPhone comes out, people pay attention. That's the power of prestige. Whether you like it or not isn't part of the equation.

OOT, WW, TP, BOTW, TOTK command attention in a way MK never could. That's what I'm talking about here.

Perfect response. I'll be picking up the Switch 2 at launch. Throw in games like Tony Hawk 3 and 4 and other 3rd party games and I'm set for a long while. Plus the updates for Switch games- I'm pumped and ready to go.

There's Mario Kart World and some third parties. And their one game is $80 digital.

What utter hyperbolic bollocks are you talking about? When did you start gaming? There have been many shite launch lineups, from all manufacturers. I wouldn't say this is the best but it's far from the the worst. Mario Kart World looks like a blast, more so than the shite that blights many launch lineups. The switch 2 isn't perfect, and I'm not sure any launch is. But it's exciting to see Nintendo switch things up and do something different with a legacy franchise. Metroid also looks great along with Donkey Kong, these games just scream fun in that way that only Nintendo consistently delivers. What's not to like?

We have seen a lot of promise from all 3 console manufacturers over the years, and thankfully they've mostly delivered on their first party efforts. I look forward to whatever else Nintendo cooks up because I think this first foray into the switch 2 by both first and third party looks promising straight out of the gate. It's a great console, with much more potential than its predecessor to keep up with the big boys. Gaming tariffs aside for you unfortunate American folks, it's a great time to be gaming.
