Nintendo Switch 2 is selling at least three times faster than Switch 1 in Japan

Too soon to tell. Switch benefited a lot because of covid during those 2 years, plus their competitors couldn't produce significant amounts of consoles during that period. It was a perfect storm for them.

I also believe that the fact they don't have shortages this time around allows them to sell much more and faster.

The console could peak much earlier due to these two reasons alone. Time will tell.
Yeah, it's kind of surprising to easily find Switch 2 for sale in US less than couple months post launch.

Usually consoles aren't available like that in the first few months. So this could be either Nintendo having unprecedented stock or that demand is softening a bit.

EuroGAF, how is availability of Switch 2 in Europe? Is it easy to get?

Mobile is still growing in all regions, not just Japan. As for the Switch 2, I lean toward the price being a factor once the holidays are over and sales slowing. I have no problem being wrong about that but I think $450+ pushes it beyond an impulse buy.
Mobile is always growing, i believe that, but i don't neccessarily believe that mobile gaming is growing, or if it does, it's slow. I don't know how it is in the US, but here in Canada, i have literally not seen a single person in the bus/train/subway with a switch or another handheld. Rewind back to, like, 2019, and it was infested with Switches all over the place. Bunch of millennials, often with their kids rolling a Switch on a train and busses. I simply do not see a reason why all of a sudden this has completely stopped, but the mobile gaming is still growing fast.

All i see when it comes to mobile are people playing their shitty wifu gacha garbage, and i don't consider this as a video game.

Easy as like to get döner in germany

Next day delivery for the Mario Kart Bundle. 510 EUR. I'm in The Netherlands right now.
So it sounds it's the same in Europe as in US (and probably CA as well). It's going to be interesting to see sales figures as the year progresses and especially into 2026.

I wonder if Japan is different because of actually good pricing and Japan being largely Nintendo land on console side of things.

Worton's has next day delivery to the Azores, I'd imagine that's the case for mainland Portugal. I checked Radio Popular but was unable to check delivery without making an account, but nothing was suggesting you couldn't order it and get it pretty quickly as best I could tell.

The Switch 2 is readily available from all major retailers less than 2 months after launch. It may actually be a flop compared to the hype and Switch 1. It may just be that they are still delivering ones that were made a few months ago and rushed them to the US to avoid tariffs. We don't know yet, but we do know I can drive to 6 Targets to get one today and can order online from BB, Walmart, and Target for delivery this week and that has been true for days.

In recent history every console has sold out for months after launch. This means if more were available early, they would have sold more. All this early Switch 2 data shows is that more were available than other consoles. Even the WiiU sold out at launch.

Give it a until after the holidays to get a better picture.

This is a joke right?

Is it? Because to me, saying that PC isn't dead in Japan is just like saying that consoles aren't dead in China, which i simply wouldn't believe. Japan is all about mobile, and china is all about pc's and phones to play their wifu shovelware.

Yes, pc gaming is seeing significant growth in japan. It has nearly tripled in size from 2019 to 2023, with revenue increasing from 82.2 billion yen to 236.4 billion yen, according to a report by the CESA association. This growth is particularly notable as it comes after a period where console and mobile gaming dominated the Japanese market.

Here's a more detailed look:
  • Market Share Increase:
In 2019, PC gaming represented only 5% of Japan's total gaming market revenue. By 2023, it had risen to 13%, according to Gamereactor UK.

  • Revenue Growth:
The PC gaming market's revenue in Japan has more than doubled in recent years, reaching $1.6 billion in 2023.

  • Factors Driving Growth:
Several factors are contributing to this growth, including the increasing accessibility of indie games, the expansion of platform availability (including Steam), the rising popularity of smartphone games on PC, and the improved quality of Japanese PC storefronts.

  • Console Market Comparison:
While console gaming remains popular, particularly with the success of the Nintendo Switch, its growth has been more modest compared to the PC market.

  • Future Trends:
The trend suggests that more Japanese games will be released on PC, and PC gaming is expected to continue its growth trajectory.

Very easy. Especially in Scandinavia where the retail price starts at $670 without a game, and UK, where the retail price starts at $570.

Bet you the large majority of the revenue on there are nothing but gacha games. When i hear triple the size, it doesn't exactly impress me much because if the original number was already extremely low, triple of extremely low means nothing. So i don't trust the revenue too much, i wish we knew how much pc gaming grew, you know, actual gaming, not some weekly gacha from China that everyone in Japan plays because they're obsessed with mobile shovelware.

Sounds to me that Nintendo is doomed.
It's so dead. They should just stop making consoles, they're clearly not in the minds of gamers anymore.

*Checks notes*

Oh, right, Donkey Kong Bananza is one of the greatest games ever made. Well, I have egg banana on my face!
