I thought Bayonetta 2 done sort of okay for a Wii U game? There is clearly alot of support for Bayonetta from Nintendo fans and Nintendo knows this.

In what world has Bayo 2 broke one million? Have you people gone mad for real or just reading vg chartz or something?

The only figure we had for the US was like 150k total 6 months after launch, 50k in 3 weeks in japan before it dropped out of the charts and if I recall correctly it couldn't even stay on the top40 in UK after its first week.
If that's good enough for you that's great but then I'm claiming W101 is a success and I demand a sequel.

All the Bayo sales talk is silly if you ask me...she wouldn't be in Smash 2 years after her last game came out if Nintendo didn't know their fans were big on her. The real barrier to Bayo 3 is likely whether or not nintendo wants to pay for it and if the talent can be pulled off other projects like scalebound, whatever licensed flavor of the month PG are on, or
Vanquish 2
Nah JK, probably just some license trash

They should give Bayonetta 1+2 another chance on Switch (and preparing the userbase for 3 :p)
I almost 100%ed both but portable Bayonetta just sound too good.

What? Bayonetta launched stronger than Bayonetta 2, officially broke 1 million in sales, while no official report exists for the latter. The only data implying otherwise is VG Chartz which are banned from use as a source here for a reason.
Bayonetta selling 2 million on hardware of over 150 million is better than Bayo 2 selling atleast half a million (I'll be fair here) on 13 million hardware. Ok

The real crime is that The Wonderful 101 tanked, given its originality and production scope. Crime for Platinum and Nintendo. But the Wii U was a shitmess so I guess that's that.

Platinum is an appealing developer to publishers, like Nintendo, due to their highly efficient production pipeline. It's why publishers continue to work with them as, in most cases, Platinum can see through the production of a title to a very fast turnaround. Metal Gear Rising is a perfect example of this.

Their bigger games are usually where they hit some snags, but no different to anyone else. Like when Kamiya heads a game it's more often than not a "big deal", in the sense that it's a full production AAA title requiring a lot of work in every facet of development and thus is partial to delays and whatnot.

Nintendo has a good working relationship with Platinum as far as I'm aware, which is the main thing. Investing in existing franchises that maybe didn't do all that great, like Bayonetta 2, isn't necessarily a bad idea as it can help diversify the portfolio of a platform and make the hardware more attractive to certain audiences. Nintendo isn't just pushing software alone for profit, they're encouraging people to pick up their hardware too. And unless they're cooked in the head I would hope Nintendo senior management recognises that a lot of underwhelming software sales on the Wii U are more indicative of the failure of the platform itself, not necessarily the line-up. It's hard to sell niche titles to a market that's already another limited niche.

So, I could absolutely see Nintendo working with Platinum again in some capacity. Nintendo has openly recognised they foolishly failed to predict the high production requirements for modern games and had to call in studio assistance, and have noted that they intend to work with other developers for software. Platinum fills that gap more or less perfectly; tried and true developer, efficient production pipeline, and established working relationship.
Bayonetta I could see returning, Nintendo giving it one last crack. Bayonetta as a character is a cult favourite, and could help diversify Nintendo's portfolio.
But I could also see Nintendo trying something different with Platinum too, even working on a Nintendo franchise. And not a mixed development like Star Fox, but them given more creative control.

Bayonetta selling 2 million on hardware of over 150 million is better than Bayo 2 selling atleast half a million (I'll be fair here) on 13 million hardware. Ok

Okay.

I desire a Wonderful 102 and a spin-off game. Kamiya, I know wants a spin-off game involving Wonder Blue's past and for it to be a traditional action game like Bayonetta.

I'm laying here waiting for my sick child to fall asleep. So I quickly wrote this (~15 mins)

So this is my synopsis for a Nintendo Musou, keep in mind it could be an amiibo wonderland. It could also be a series, where sequels could incorporate different characters from different franchises including third parties.

The key to the series is using different art styles that is true to the characters styles in the game. So each character will not have the same art style, play style but would look and act close enough that is would be compatible. All the characters listed would be playable, and would stay mostly faithful to their characters. Gameplay would need a little more depth than Hyrule Warriors, and there would be more verticality involved in level design as well. Sandbox maps, not quite as big as Hyrule Warriors maps, but more smaller, more compact and tighter level design.

My idea is a mix of Captain N: The Gamemaster, Alice in Wonderland (the novel) and Toy Story. Call it Nintendo All-StarS 'Mash-up.
This story would involve Mario, Donkey Kong, Inklings, Toad(ette), Peach(Daisy), Bowser, Pitt, Little Mac, Kirby, two Fire Emblem characters (1guy and 1 girl), and finally Cartman and Kenny from South Park. 12 playable characters. You would Action RPG-lite level up and have skill trees for each one. Cartman would be the voiceover and narrator for the game.

Cartman, along with Mario,DK, Pitt, Kirby, Kenny would provide majority of comic relief.

Game would be rated E-10. But would have very dry and funny adult humor. Similar to a Pixar cartoon.

Cartman would never end up swearing, but would be creative with his insults, but non offensive. Cartman or other characters would make fun of Donkey Kong being an internet meme, for example. "It is on like Donkey Kong" they could yell when they start the battle.

Boss battles would need to be creative and allow for different ways to beat the boss based on a character. Not 12 different ways but more like 3 or 4.

Game would start with Cartman playing Mario Maker and Mario battling Bowser. Cartman does something to break the game and it unlocks a Red Door (same from Mario 2), go thru the door and it opens the Nightmare Realm. Wart and the Mouse emerge. Somehow Kenny and Cartman go to sleep and wake up to Mario standing next to them. Cartman is annoyed, and wonders aloud why he can not seem to wake up from the dream. Kenny realizes it is not a dream and mumbles and explains to Cartman and Mario. Mario says "Mama Mia" and the game begins. Bowser show's up and you fight Bowser briefly. Just mostly a tutorial on buttons. The fight stops cause everyone notices something is different, there is no Mushrooms, or "?" boxes. Just Turnips in the ground. Mario and Bowser turn to each other and stare at each other and both fall back and faint.

Every level would be designed from a different characters games. In Donkey Kong's world you could fight King K Rool and a few other bosses from different DKC games. A section of Donkey Kong level would involve him getting to the top of a wooden platform and throw barrels. The other characters could be helping cover him to allow him to get up there. A callback to Donkey Kong arcade.

The South Park level could take place in a giant forest and graveyard called the Graveyard of dead characters. Cartman could make jokes about the grave of Chief, Kenny, Pong, Kid Icarus (..oh yeah...your back alive) He could mumble something about if you look, you should be able to find Star Fox in here somewhere. Could find a grave they something about Banj...with the rest scratched out, he could say "Nope, they are on another system"

Main villains in the game would be Wart, King K Rool, Octolings, Medusa, Eggplant Wizard, Meta Knight, King Hippo, and Zombie Chief and others.

The Sequel could have: Mii (main character), Link, Zelda, Samus, Sonic the Hedgehog, Ryu, Pikachu+ another pokemon, Mega Man, Simon Belmont or Bayonetta, Wario, Ice Climbers, and Scrooge Mcduck. (12 Characters) Scrooge would offer a lot of the humor, but in a different style than the first game.

Honestly I'm fairly certain the game probably wouldn't of done much better even if it was on a console with a bigger install base. I just don't think Wonderful 101 is really an appealing enough concept for the general gaming crowd, unfortunately.

True. That said I kinda wish Nintendo would salvage the idea by putting nintendo characters in it. I wasn't for it at the time when we heard it was originally planned that way, but now it seems like the only way we're going to play something like it ever again

Operation 005-C is one of the greatest moment I've encountered in my years of gaming. Absolutely sensational! I have my fingers crossed for more "Wonderful 101" games getting the green light on Switch.

A sad state of affairs.

One thing to keep in mind with Platinum is they're in Osaka which is right down the road from Kyoto. Under 30 miles away.

I think this is also why Nintendo has been closer to Capcom (also in Osaka) over the years than other third parties based out of Tokyo and why Nintendo went with Universal (who has a theme park in Osaka) over Disney.

Location seems to be a factor for them culturally as a company... maybe they can meet more frequently with an area company and build trust?

Mirrors Edge - Already came back to a muted response
Alpha Protocol - Do enough people care any more?
Prince of Persia - It's dead :(
Beyond Good and Evil - Is happening
Jet Set Radio - Yes please, this is a good suggestion
The World Ends With You - Wouldn't piss people off, as it started out on DS
Valkyria Chronicles - Latest Valkyria is multiplatform, maybe a Switch port of Revolution though?
Xenogears - AHAHAHA

Annotated your various suggestions :p

I love TW101. However tonally the game was a mess. It looked like a childrens game but it had all sorts of violence and Inuendo. Tonlly it alienated both family and mature gamers.

Plus it got shafted by reviewers who hated it because it was hard.

If anyone at Nintendo is reading this. Please give it a second chance and give The Wonderful 101 the Dynasty Warriors treatment. Dynasty Warriors is a big enough IP that it will sell by itself and with 101 different Warriors (Hero Characters to choose from) plus Giant Boss Fights

Nintendo Please make "The Wonderful Warriors" happen

Stop telling people the truth. Give me some sweet little lies so I can hope for a sequel one day.

Talking about switch thread ideas ... I kinda wanted to make a thread asking about the whole switch/vita thing but it might be kinda overlapping with the vita/psp thread that we have already.

Like about what you guys think if Sony will make a Vita2 and if they don't, if you guys consider the Switch it's sucessor considering the focus on a console experience portable and the fact that if it will be the only portable in the market, if it will turn into the weird japanese machine that hugely differentiated from 3DS's lineup
