Nintendo Switch Discussion Thread (Question of the Day, Countdown, etc)

nope. I guess ppl assume/think that treehouse will cover throughout the switch public event, even though when treehouse stream airs, public event on that day is already over

That's what I figured. I'm not expecting the stream to be eight hours long, but that'd certainly be nice. I'm guessing two or three.

I don't think they'll only aim at the "future for Nintendo fans". Nintendo fans will be there.
They have to show a really bright future for everyone to
re
consider Nintendo in their home/hands.
Anyway the good thing is that the can easily show first party games that are not "too Nintendo" for some people. Though the market is different in every region.

It's more than obvious that they're going to focus on the launch, but since we have the treehouse, hands on in big cities as well as 2 months remaining to market the launch, I think they can be a little more open in the presentation.

Of course I don't think they will/should aim only the nintendo fans, they have to present a lot of 3rd party stuff but I hope they basically say : the switch will have ALL of Nintendo games (and loved franchise).

I agree with all of this. I fully expect the debut event to focus on 2017 titles, especially the launch window. And because of that I'm expecting a lot of screen time to ports as Nintendo hit the reset button and pretend the Wii U never happened.

I'm kinda at the stage where I don't want to see more of Zelda, too. Not because I don't think they should show it, but I really feel the less I know and see about the game at this point the more I'll enjoy it come release. I'm already sold and anything I see/learn is just one less surprise I could experience for myself.

If I get the opportunity to watch I'll tune out for that inevitable segment. I don't think I will though; it screens at like...3pm Friday for me. If it were ~3 hours later it'd be perfect as I could watch as soon as it get home. Alas I will be at work.

i do agree - i think they'll do a more full/actual story trailer for breath of the wild to coincide with its release date, and save one final major trailer for launch, which is what they did for twilight princess and i think also skyward sword. considering the japanese focus of the even, i think mario, mario kart, or splatoon might be the first games we see though - with zelda sort of existing within their presentation.

for the event itself, i'll be in new york city (for the first time in 17 years). so the reveal happens at 11pm. it's pretty late, as there's work the next morning, but i'm probably going to stay up and watch it if i can muster the energy.

no. just some site think that any duration mentioned in nicovideo live schedule is a good source for the length of a planned livestream
Ok. I checked on Nico² but didn't see this 1 hour thing. I guess the schedule is found on another page somewhere.
I'm expecting at least half an our more.

We shouldn't forget that we aren't just getting what's shown/teased in the presentation. Once it's done it will open the flood gates for any developers to show more of their games where they would have had to keep it under wraps until now.

So even if Nintendo only tease some of the 3rd party stuff or focus on launch window, doesn't mean we won't see more in the coming weeks.

If Nintendo will not show the 3rt party stuff then what was the point in stopping them from announcing Switch versions already?

Yeah, don't hold your breath for that. To expect anything but the bare minimum test games from 3rd parties is totally unreasonable.

So no, there won't be any flood gates opening, more like a few droplets here and there.

I expect this to mostly be true for Western third parties.

I suspect this will not be true for Japanese third parties.

there are also hands-on events in a lot of major cities/countries where fans are allowed to participate and are allowed to share footage they themselves filmed/photographed.

we will get a lot of new stuff in the days after the event.

I think japanese 3rd parties should put a stronger effort at launch. The most successful 3rd parties on 3DS are the ones that supported it the most at the launch period like Capcom and Level 5. At launch there's less competition too, SF 3D sold a lot because of it.

I don't think the length of the Treehouse segment has been confirmed and anyhow there should be more games shown at the Switch event than in the Treehouse stream. Hopefully!
Yeah I agree with you. I imagine the Switch event will show games releasing throughout the year and I bet the treehouse event only goes hands-on with the launch games.

My prediction for the Treehouse stream;

30 minutes-1 hour on the UI and the system itself
2 hours on third party games coming with appearances from some of their developers
1 hour dedicated to Zelda or Mario, whatever's the big launch game
3 hours on all the other first party games coming at launch

I haven't been able to follow this or any tweets outside of GAF...

are there any reasonable rumors of a new metroid??

Nintendo Lands 2
New Super Mario Switch

Dont get too hyped here.

i really hope nintendo does not name their games "<insert IP> Switch"

that sucks badly.

Super Mario 64
Bomberman 64
Donkey Kong 64

the hell is that?? give your games some personality ffs

I like the 64 branding because the system introduced a new dimension to their games, so 64 differentiated from previous 2D entries.

That being said I agree that just tacking Switch to the titles would be lazy.

I also hope for games not wearing Switch in their title... it's already on the box.
The only one that probably can't avoid it is Smash Bros I guess.

Is there any chance Square can get the Chrono Trigger band back together and do a Chrono game that captures the spirit of the original and is exclusive to the Switch? The year of dreams DID happen...

Nintendo Land 2 is a really good shout actually. I think although the first game is underrated, and has some of the best uses for the gamepad on that console, a sequel could be a little more ambitious as well. More game franchises, more modes. Stick to the simplicity though. Simple concepts like Mario Chase (tag) were really well done. I remember having a lot of fun with the nephew playing that back at release.

I don't think those guys are really up for it. I hear Yuji Horii in particular didn't have interest in returning to the series.

Honestly, Chrono Trigger was a perfect one-off, it really didn't need a sequel to begin with.

I definitely see what you mean and I even agree. I guess I just want a historical Switch JRPG exclusive. Similar to how the SNES had CT.

Is USB-C really that fast?

Also, that's his big videos? Just some small at best details about the system?

He maybe had 1/2 big scoops and found a way to garner hits and attention for his channel.

Good thing folks just share the info... I couldn't after the first video.

I've got the OP3 and it uses something called "Dash Charging" and it's MAGIC. 10 minutes and it's halfway charged.

MAHAAAAGIC.

My Oneplus 3 does 0-100% in about an hour.

How's the battery life on that thing?

I can only go by my nexus 6p but fast charging over about 80 minutes is great and that gives me ~6 hours of HD video streaming or a few hours of high end 3D mobile gaming but this phone is going to be completely different to the switch.

I hope nintendo give it some sort of fast charge kind of thing, my old windows tablet would have 5 hours of battery but also take 5 hours to charge it was super annoying.

I'm honestly surprised that Nintendo have decided to release the new Mario sports game thing on the 3DS rather than the Switch. With some decent online modes, that could have been a good seller for a new console.

Wouldn't be surprised to see a port of that on Switch.
