More impressions:

Good: playing Zelda BotW in handheld mode is so damn good. Just incredible. Also I saw today somebody with a neon Switch on the tram to work. That was nice to see.

Bad: you can't create Nintendo Accounts directly from Switch? I had already one before Switch but my girlfriend wanted to create one and she had to do it via the PC. Whose bright idea was this?

Didn't like it?

Its not that. It just didnt click with me, I bought it for Zelda but came to the conclusion that the WiiU version is good enough to enjoy Zelda.

So why would I pay 320€ for a console that is a lil bit better than the WiiU. So I sold it for the same price I bought it.

I haven't gotten any scratches on my Switch screen yet, but at the edges it does get smudges from docking it that take a while to wipe off. Very persistent. This is only from (un)docking a handful of times. I don't want to get a screen protector because I messed up placement once on the DS and always fear I'll do that again. Will probably get some pads. The dock is the only Switch part that feels incredibly cheap and these scratch issues don't make matters better. Some third party will (and should) make a 'lite' dock that's similar to the WiiU and is open on one side.

If I remember correctly, the scratching issue on the 3DS would start out as marks that can be wiped off before evolving into full blown scratches.

My problem are the (probably) hardware related problems:

Cartridges not registering.

This is a nightmare, really. Getting a fully functional Switch is basically pure luck? I know there were launch problems with the other consoles but I don't remember them being as common and grave as these.

Just got my switch, installed the update - but I have a problem.
I'm from belgium, belgium has two official languages (dutch and french). I speak dutch

My nintendo account is setup in english.

Now when I try to enter the e-shop, it says it can't display the eshop in my chosen language (english) and defaults to french without letting me choose.

Anyone else has had this problem? And/or a solution? Can't seem to choose a language on the switch after it initially installed.

Yeesh, hopefully not in this case :/

That fix is nuts, props to him if he's the one that came up with it. Once you get your game running, never take it out until you beat it :p

Yes everyone from Belgium has this. If you set your system to English, you get a French e-shop. Setting it to Dutch gives you a Dutch shop, but it also gives you Dutch text in Zelda. Choosing is easy for me: I'll take the French eshop if everything else is English.

Hah ok - thanks. I'll do the same.
Hope they fix it though, since I prefer all my systems (windows, phone, consoles) in English.

Downloading FastRMX now ^_^

Pure luck like with every other console in launch or not. While these videos are made for drama effect, it showcases some of the issues:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6__TvBzAVj8
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FwlK-jU8Yg
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bu7jHLsW-5s

I had (still have) faulty HDCP handshake issues with PS4 Pro in 4K, my PS4 had the auto-eject problem and I didn't buy either near their launch. Switch has been good so far, not a single issue on my end.
Might seem like a nightmare during the launch when people get their systems and these faults with the system begin to see light of the day, but it's always good to remember that if few people out of million(s?) have issues bad enough to post them on Youtube, doesn't mean you need to be more lucky than with anything else in life to get a proper working system.
I'm biased in saying this as mine works (for now..) but to me this doesn't seem any worse than other recent console launches, I do admit though that the variety of issues is kind of worrying: bad WiFi, Joycon signal, Cartridge reader, Dock scratcher, Screen lottery and just plain old hardware failures.

Nooo, you want to turn off both settings! There isn't, shouldn't be, a real problem! If he has the settings on like I am guessing, then they are doing their job!

HDMI-CEC is used for things like making your TV turn on and switch to the input of whatever electronic device you turned on. So basically, the Switch keeps turning on and off because the battery will go down to 99% battery and then to 100% to prevent overcharging. Charging to 100% seems to turn the Switch on in some way. Since it'd be turning on again, the TV would think that you'd want to switch to it's input, thus creating the issue you described.

My brother just told me he tried all of this already and it sadly didn't fix it at all.

I have this too. With my home media amp. No solution as yet.

So when it's docked it gives these issues and when not docked it's all good?

This is not correct. The Switch only sends the "switch input" signal when you actually wake it up. My TV (a Sony) has never turned on or switched input while the Switch has been in standby, only when I manually wake it up. This is clearly the intended behavior.

Now, it seems like Samsung TVs (and perhaps others) have this "feature" which automatically switches inputs just from getting an active HDMI signal, and that's what causing this. This has nothing to do with HDMI-CEC, but it just something Samsung has added because I guess they thought it would be useful, so changing those settings on the Switch won't help.

Does anyone have a resin protector?

Theres a big electronic store chain (MediaMarkt) that has a printer of some sorts that prints resin protectors and have lifetime warranty, but i've been hearing that they give a weird feeling when touched.

Man that's crazy.

What a pain every time you swap the cart. I guess he's kind of lucky he isn't swapping cartridges a lot, lol.

I'm not so sure about that. I can have mine in sleep mode for hours and not touch it, and my LG tv will occasionally give me a "a new device has been connected, switch to that input?" pop up message.

Turned off the setting on the Switch, can't find anything in any of the settings of the TV to change. But many people are having this same issue, with multiple brands of TVs and all settings turned off.

Shit. While there is no user method to back up saves, I kind of hoped Nintendo CS would have an internal method to do it :(

I think this is one of those issues one would have to keep pushing for. Basically refusing a new unit unless they could transfer the save data over.

They may think one game's worth of data isn't a big deal, but what if six months, a year down the line I want a repair. I'll have data for multiple games. It would be a case of forcing users to either choose between keeping their saves on a broken system or losing them for a fixed system.

Does anyone have Wi Fi solutions? I can't even do a system update as it's stuck at 0%. It also shows only one bar when it's connected.

[edit] I just got an "Unable to communicate with server" message. Is there a problem on Nintendo's side?

[Double edit] I tried again and it worked fine. Got system update in about two minutes. Downloaded Snipperclips demo in about the same time.

Yep. My Kinivo HDMI switcher does the same thing....periodically switching to the Switch input for absolutely no reason. It doesn't happen on a schedule either. Sometimes it happens 30 seconds apart, sometimes it takes over 10 minutes.

I hope they do something with file transfer.. I really dislike having to turn the Switch off, remove the card, transfer files, insert card, turn Switch back on. Ugh. No, it's not hard to do, and it's not even that long of a process but I'd rather be able to just connect a cable, import media, and continue on.

Yeah sadly the problem is still very much there for my brother. So either he gets a new TV, which he of course won't because he recently got this one. Sticks with it and hopes for a solution or sell it. It doesn't seem to happen on ever Samsung TV though, but definitely the ones with that feature. It's very likely my LG OLED wouldn't case any trouble.

Just noticed this last night... is it normal for my Switch to pass a certain low level of 'interference' noise through my headphones? Like on Zelda loading screens, there's no sound, but there is this sort of static-y noise. It's not totally silent.

I had a loud interference signal connecting my docked switch to my stereo amp via the headphone/aux cable (that's how I need to do it with my setup since there's no audio out other than HDMI), but not with headphones. Apparently it's something called a ground loop in my case (probably) and I bought a small adapter part (ground loop isolator) in hopes that's the case. Otherwise I'll have to fuss with my setup.

Hmmm...

My Switch has been working fine with my Sony TV (turns on the TV when needed, goes to sleep when I turn off the TV), but it is directly connected to the TV itself. I was thinking of buying an HDMI switch because I've run out of ports, but it sounds like it's best to keep the Switch plugged into its own port and have my other devices on a HDMI switch. The Kinivo was in fact one of the models I was looking at.

I'll have to give my Kinivo switch a look at when I get home. I hadn't noticed it doing it, but honestly I haven't really used anything else on my TV recently.

I'm finding the joy con analog sticks to be very sensitive. Barely any pressure and Link starts moving. Fell off a couple high places because of this lol

You can't easily take your WiiU with you when I leave the house.

Crap, I just bought this HDMI switcher to address my sudden lack of ports owing to the switch. They just added HDMI CEC to the switch with the day 1 patch. They probably fouled it up- hopefully can be fixed in a future firmware.

I noticed my switch sitting in the dock last night with the screen (top visible) turning on (100% charge) and off every ten seconds. I had to hold the power button to turn it off-off to make it stop.

Getting a fully functional console at launch is always pure luck and there is always someone such as yourself working themselves up each launch over it. Having worked in technical support for years, you realize that shit happens when it comes to electronics. I had the joycon issue with my second set of greys, rather than lose my mind, I swapped them out, now I have no issues.

Just bought Fast RMX and HD rumble "sounds" awful.

Gotta admit, I'm not terribly impressed with HD rumble. I don't dislike it, but it's not all it was made out to be.

Random question: So the Switch does not have any kind of universal achievement/trophy system, right? If so, has Nintendo said anything about adding it later on?

Can anyone confirm for me Metal Slug 3 on Switch isn't censored milk blood rubbish?

I think it's milk blood, actually! I saw a video on youtube earlier today.

I'm not really losing my mind, I'm just worried. My last console I bought for myself was the Gamecube so I'm not used to defect parts with something that expensive. The definition "expensive" varies from person to person but for me it's half a year of saving up money I mostly don't have. I'd wouldn't like to be the one with the ugly duck, if you know what I mean.

Noob question but is the support / swapping of the Switch (or parts of it) for free?

So after playing Zelda and fast rmx. I'm very impressed and pleased with my purchase. I wanted the pro controller because I didn't think I would care for the joy-cons. I find myself playing with the joy-cons more. They feel natural in my palms and I'm able to keep my wrists relaxed. Was able to link my Japanese account without a hitch and have Puyo Puyo Tetris there at the moment. A dream come true! To have all access to all regions.
I can understand some of the concern regarding the dock though, it feels like my switch is scraping by when I go to pull it out. I'll just have to be extra cautious until I can place some screen protectors on this thing.

This poster pulses with an appeal so broad the typical restraints of our societies fall by the wayside.

I feel like (or maybe I just hope) Fast RMX is not a good example of HD rumble. It's a bit too intense – I wish you could turn it down a bit. I hope it's more nuanced in other games that use it. I kind of thought that was the point anyway.

Yeah. It's always going to happen with launches because it's a large amount of people all getting their device on the exact same day.

Aiii

So not worth it
Yeah. It's always going to happen with launches because it's a large amount of people all getting their device on the exact same day.

That and mass production in short timeframes. I remember my PSP failing to play UMD's, that killed me. Nothing's worse than hyping yourself up for a new toy for months and then ending up with a dud. So I get the reactions by people that end up with a faulty device.

I resent the clickbait news articles and such though, pretending they are widespread problems on hundreds of thousands of devices. You see it with every popular product. Bending iPhones and what not, and before you know it, everyone is worried about their device being broken.

Getting a broken product sucks, but as long as the company has their customer service in order and fixes/replaces the product as soon as they can, there really isn't much of a problem. It sucks, because you want to be playing Zelda, but unfortunately it is what it is.

And honestly, this is not limited to launches when it comes to technology, sometimes you just get a bad piece and that's life, warranty is there for you.

Jose from IGN tweeted this image last week that seems to show his Zelda play time. How?

Whys that surprising in an open world game? I've got over 200 hours into Witcher 3.

Hell I've put 80 hours into Deus Ex Mankind Devided, and that's a much shorter game.

The bigger problem is if a problem happens after you've started Zelda. The lack of save backups is a massive over-sight.

I meant it more in the sense that there's a lot of people complaining about issues in a short time frame. You're always going to see that specifically with launches.
