Bring up a hotspot on your phone if possible to rule out your router. If the switch still has issues then the wifi chip is probably defective.

Thanks!

I totally forgot about my phone as a hotspot. So it worked!

I will have to call my ISP tomorrow and see what is wrong with the router or if they have some block or something.

It has a minor bend. It still functions. How could this possibly be a serious problem for someone?

For one, if it came that way.. and you keep using it.. and you have to get it fixed for some other reason later, they might think you dropped it and refuse to fix it under warranty.

Are there worse defects? sure. Someone shouldn't have to accept any defects in a new device, though. If it wouldn't be a problem for you, that's cool. but it doesn't surprise me that others are less willing to accept flaws in their devices, either.

So I have a new Switch and it will not connect to my wifi.

It will find the signal sometimes and when I click connect to internet it won't work.

Sometime it won't find the signal at all as found connections.

It's connected to the internet only twice but not long enough to download the system update.

Any suggestions?

This works for me: setting the WiFi channel below 100. I left my router at default around channel 105 on the 5GHz band, and my Switch can't even find the SSID. Once set to channel 45 it found and locked onto the hotspot instantaneously. (I may got that channel numbers wrong, all I remembered was setting the channel number to below 100).

Christ, forget the screen scratching issues. The back of the Switch is what truly gets marked up like a mother fucker. I don't know what material is used there, but it's awful.

It doesn't say in the OP, but is there a way to play with docked-power enabled while portable, and also can you play with the portable-power enabled while docked?

The former can allow higher-res stuff like Snake Pass to look better on the screen (since it's barely above 480p in portable mode, but above 720p docked I think?), the latter would let you play BOTW with the smoother performance docked. Naturally the former would drain the battery quicker, but it should be safe when charging via USB-C no?

Wouldn't the latter be achieved by setting the system to 720p when docked maybe?

The monthly report for the Parental Control app is disappointing, as expected. Really unhappy that there is no full Activity Log for the Switch.

That shouldn't cause any problems. My Switch connects to a high band 5GHz channel just fine. Probably another router setting that his Switch is not liking.

I only go digital with multiplayer games since it something I just want to jump in and play on occasion in long or short sessions.

If they are physical, there will be a mental barrier and humans are convenient by nature so multiplayer games are much less likely to be used in physical form.
Also, multiplayer games won't have any value when servers are shut down and you never know when they do get shutdown.

Yeah agreed, Im like this, and I need to follow this route more. Also with psvr games, digital is the way to go.

You know, I'm curious to know how people are inserting the tablet in the dock, as I'm pretty gentle with inserting it.

I take a good 10-15 seconds to insert mine. First I align it properly from the top, then move to the side to make sure the screen doesn't come into contact with the rails. I also make sure there's no dust or debris inside the dock beforehand.

Not gonna take any chances until my tempered glass arrives. My sister's Switch already has a scratch (thankfully it had a temp film protector on) even with delicate docking on an unbent dock.

So I juat noticed that my left thumbstick on the Pro Controller gets stuck on down sometimes. I noticed it while playing Metal Slug 3. Sometimes the character would say crouching or on the menu screen it would continuously scroll down. Is something wrong with my controller or is it the game?

Drinking a beer and playing Setsuna while waiting at the Cinema for Ghost in the Shell. Was chilly but not stopping me from playing while crossing my arms.

I feel like you quoted the wrong post here.

I fixed a left joy-con this morning. With the right tools it took me 5mn. Now 4 meters away, hands behind my back, flawless signal, as it should have been in the first place.

Something about this process taking so long and such accuracy to avoid scratches and especially the notion of having to avoid the rails which should be designed as guides to help you slide it in correctly, not spikes in a Mario level, seems very very wrong though and not what customers should have gotten.

Couple of questions re: accounts,

1. Can I link a NA region Nintendo account/NNID to a EU region Switch?

2. How does NNID transfer work with the Switch? Would I have to do a system transfer a la WiiU/3DS?

I just got my Switch in the mail and I've already run into a problem I didn't think of: Playing with headphones while docked.

I thought the Pro controller would be the answer but it seems like it doesn't have a headphone jack. What are my options here, aside from getting headphones with a really long cord?

That's your only option unfortunately (AFAIK).

Bluetooth Adapter that plugs into headphone jack and some Bluetooth headphones?

Hardware is region free so it doesn't matter.

NNIDs are gone, and there is nothing to transfer, you just link your mynintendo account
Edit: well yes, funds, duh.

while it's still possible to return the console and have it replaced why shouldn't I?

The courier comes to collect the console and a new one arrives within 2 days, it's hardly an inconvenience.

1. Yes.

2. I don't think NNID plays much of a role on the Switch, beyond importing your funds for the eShop. Your digital purchases on the Switch are tied to your Nintendo Account (which you can link to your NNID to import any remaining previous eShop balance). To activate your Nintendo Account to another Switch you need to deactivate it on the previous one. No need to have the two systems physically nearby, but your account can only be active on one system at a time.

Thanks, that's good to know.

Also, is it possible to link a Nintendo account to multiple Switches?

Edit:

1. Yes.

Will I have to deactivate it manually or does it automatically deactivate when I use it on another console?

my switch is due to be delivered on the 18th april. is it likely that it'll come with the joycon fixed? i know nintendo said they have updated the manufacturing line. i am worried that i might get a switch that was made before they made the change. i don't know how long a time it is between manufacturing and being sold. hopefully since my Switch isn't due to arrive for 17 days that it will be a newer batch.

Knowing my luck. My first amfilm glass protector got fucked up during installation. The second one installed properly and there are no bubbles . However, i see a a small hair dot /hairline speck of dust that isnt actually making a bubble or anything.

I am wondering if there is a way to remove it. Because the first glass had a small dust when i tried to slowly remove it slowly shit hit the fan. Also, will it scratch this stupid plastic screen if i decided not to do anything and keep it ?

You have to angle the switch to a certain degree in front of the light to be noticed but the ocd in me is killing me.

I whisper sweet nothings to both my Switch and the dock before beginning the roughly 45-second insertion procedure.

And yet I still ended up with a scratch on the back of the switch and on the screen protector, so who knows?

The Best Buy order came in yesterday (free two day shipping apparently). Thankfully the dock is not bent. Haven't tested out the joycons yet but getting Zelda and 1-2 today.

Goodbye Wii.

How long does the pro controller take to charge if connected to the dock? Ran low after a week of Zelda and I'm getting itchy to play again

good to hear the fix worked for you, still amazed these joycons left the factory as they were.

No way for end users to force this either way. Changing the output resolution just changes what the game scales to at the final step, rather than affecting actual rendering resolution.

Question

Does Nintendo make some of the accessories they sell on their website, or are they all third-party stuff? Such as the Game Traveler Deluxe Travel Case or the Premium Console Case. I'm looking for accessories to buy, but I would much prefer buying the "official" ones made by Nintendo themselves over third-party ones.
I highly highly recommend the Deluxe Travel Case in my opinion. I have one and it's just awesome. I don't know if Nintendo helped with the process but it definitely does the job! Fits snugly in too!

I'm having big troubles connecting to the eShop, I get an error message everytime during the yellow load screen. I've tried restarting the console, my router, disconnecting and then reconnecting the Switch from my wi-fi but nothing seems to help. I know I am online since I can download patches and the news section seems to change. It's the eShop that doesn't let me in. I did manage to get there once and download the Snipperclips demo but after that, no luck.

Anyone else having similar troubles?

So what cables are truly needed for this besides the ones in the box? Like what would should I get for bedroom charging? And anything else? I see some people mention stuff for the dock extension .... but why?

Anyone else having an HDMI problem with their TV? I can only get 480p when connecting directly from the dock. As an experiment, I ran the Switch through the XB1 and was able to get 1080p. That's quite a band-aid solution, but I'm rolling with it for now. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Not actually that important
Are these ACA Hamster games poorly optimized on the Switch? I just bought and played Metal Slug and the framerate was taking gigantic hits. I'm not even as sensitive to framerates as some people are, but this was straight running in slow motion sometimes.

Bummer, :/

Nope, they're very well emulated, that's how the original game plays and it's the same as the PS4 version I own (and lots other platforms too).
I think ACAs have been fantastic releases so far.

Protip: DON'T BUY METAL SLUG 2. You'd hate it.

Try swapping HDMI cables maybe?

Try with a different TV?

Just got my Switch from Amazon and have been playing through Zelda a little since last night but I noticed that my ZL button was sticking at the beginning of my session and has since been unusable. Anyone else ran into this issue and have any advice? Or am I going to have to try and pry open the joy con or shell out extra for a new set.

Hmmmm interesting. Although I think there are more compact BT receivers than that dongle right?
Yeah there's decently small ones, and if you're not using fancy headphones you could just get some cheap Bluetooth headphones instead of another dongle for the other end of the solution.
Anyone else have an unresponsive Y button (or any other button for that matter) on their right joycon? If I push the Y button in quick succession it can be very unresponsive. This isn't a problem in Zelda, but in Blaster Master it almost breaks the game. Is there an easy fix for unresponsive buttons or do I need to call Nintendo?

I know you can change the button mapping in BM, but that doesn't fix my Y button being unresponsive.
Tried the button test in settings? Wonder if it's your button itself or maybe the joycon lagging once in a while.

Check the stick calibration in settings.

But where do these Bluetooth dongles get their power? Do they need to connect also to the usb port?

What are people's secondary chargers for on the road?

I bought the official Nintendo Switch AC Adapter. Though you can probably get something cheaper with a third-party wall wart and cable.

Here's my physical collection so far:

Just got Has-Been Heroes and I Am Setsuna in, so haven't played those yet. Zelda is fantastic, 1-2 Switch is fun with friends, Binding of Isaac hasn't grabbed me yet and Super Bomberman R made me realize (again) that I suck at Bomberman games. The Official Nintendo case is perfect for me; has just what I need to be on-the-go and if I need anything else, I throw it into another bag. Finally, the Pro Controller is worth it and I prefer it over the Joy-Cons.

Did I just buy a shitty tempered glass screen protector or is the switch screen itself messing it up? The glass screen looks pretty ugly and has a blue tint to it in any moderately lit room or sunlight

I saw a thread on Reddit that there appears to be a growing issue of a crack appearing near the power button on the top of the switch.
I don't know if this'll help and try and prevent it but I used a tri-wing screwdriver and released the pressure of the backplate by undoing the screw a little near the area of the crack.

Has there been any announcement about Shantae Half Genie Hero? I feel like Wayforward has too much history with Nintendo to not make it happen.
