Yup I am right there with you. Own and xb1/ps4 but I haven't owned a Nintendo console since the N64 either.
I said when it was announced I would wait till black friday/holidays but the Zelda hype plus the Switch being a sexy looking system is getting to me. I personally dont even care to dock it...I am just super tempted to play Zelda in portable mode and since I don't own a Nintendo ds but have wanted one for a long time, the Switch just looks so appealing to me.
I might go check out some Best buys and Targets today and if they have stock, I might cop one with Zelda...yes I am weak
I keep thinking how good it would be to play zelda wherever I go (train, lunch break at work etc..), what's stopping me going out and grabbing one is when I think about whats coming up after Zelda that really appeals to me?
Tough decision ahead.

I'd like to know the answer to this as well.
You could easily test this out by disabling, then playing for 15min or something, then going on the app and seeing if it reports any game playing.

I tried moving it as far as the HDMI cable would allow. I tried setting it on a side table next to my entertainment center, that had a direct line of sight. If I stood just a few feet away, it was mostly fine, but trying to sit around 8 feet away it became unusable. I tried all the restarting tricks mentioned too, but nothing helped. I contemplated getting a long HDMI cable and placing the dock on an end table next to my seating position. Then I realized how impractical it would be with my two young kids, and the general absurdity of the situation. In the end, it took a lot for me to drop the money on this after just getting a Pro a few months ago, and these issues have forced me to rethink it. I really hope they do something about this, and I'll gladly buy again if they do.

It would not be compatible with games that need the touchscreen, but other than that I think it would be cool.

I'm pretty sure the 3DS was the only Nintendo system to ever have a fully native online store.
"Parental Control App" is busted as a way to track Activity. It lost about 8 hours of Zelda playtime.
Interesting detail: we were playing for a very long stretch, offline, including past midnight, so it lost about 8 hours of play, or something. It shows only the remnant chunk that stretched past midnight into the new day, and not the bulk of that session.

Hell no, they are way too expensive right now. Then again, all if their accessories are crazy.
Last night had a great time playing 1-2 Switch with the family even though its not a great game. I think my wife realized this immediately and was cemented when she found out how much i paid for it, even after GCU. "You paid $40 for this?!" Heck, she was the one who wanted it!
So I've been a little confused about the storage situation. Is it bad? I keep hearing everyone say it makes the most sense to buy the games physical because of it. I love physical games to a certain extent but that's a bit of a shame considering the portability of the console. Is it possible and manageable to go more fully digital?
Any practical tips for improving joycon sync? Switch is in front of the tv, with all other devices powered down, and it still struggles from about 7 feet away if there is even a slight obstruction. I have the system update, and have also tried disconnecting and re syncing the joycons.

After careful check all day and night. This is my finding when it comes to my screen and i am hoping people share theirs .
On highest brightness with auto brightness off, you can check your screen if you are in a dark room with door closed ( no source of light )
I noticed the following:
- I do not have dead pixels black or white
- I do not have stuck pixels
- I do not have uneven disaplay where one side of the screen is darker than other side
- There is a little screen bleed around the buttom of the screen in the middle ( not severe though )
- i played 1 hour of Fast RMX and i bought it for the reason its 60fps and high frames push the console harder. Still i cant hear the fan and it doesnt get hot so i am going to assume the thermal paste is done right on my system.
- Wifi doesnt disconnect
The ocd in me is bugging me a little about the slight screen bleed as i lioe my consoles in perfect shape but honestly i got it as a gift ( my friend bought it for me online i only paid for the over seas shipping which is 35$

It's not bad, but, due to the realities of the current situation with MicroSD cards, it will be a while before it can reach its full potential. The absolute max size card you can buy for it right now is 256GB. That will increase over time, but it means anyone who downloads a substantial amount of stuff will likely have to upgrade their MicroSD card at least once during the system's lifespan.
Was out with some friends last night who were coming over to play some video games and we couldn't stop talking about the Switch when we were in Best Buy. I ended up impulse buying 1-2 Switch, Super Bomberman R and a set of Gray Joycons to go with my Neon Switch.
My wallet hurts but we had a fucking blast playing five player Bomberman and the team battle mode in 1-2 Switch so I'm satisfied with my purchases. I had forgotten how great local multiplayer Bomberman is...

This works too, but it limits you to just one domain name. By using the wifi login applet thing you don't have any domain restrictions.

So I just put the Switch back in the dock and I knocked it over and the screen fell it. There's two pretty big scratches on the screen now and I hate myself pretty bad right now because I'm usually very careful with these things.
What are my options? Going back to the store? Contacting Nintendo?

Awesome, got one at my local TrU. 3rd place in line, got a Pro controller while I was at it.
Bladder almost exploded with how long I was in line, and felt like I almost got frostbite. The others were smarter and were waiting in shifts with the rest of their group in their cars.

Yeah, it all feels so fragile. My kids want to play with it and i feel like i am hovering when it is out of the dock and in their hands. They dropped my ipad last year and now the screen is shattered so i worry about the same happening.
I just dont feel safe with the switch. Not with kids especially and Nintendo is synonymous with kids!

Really loving this thing so far. So much potential down the road with games (I would kill for a Mega Man / Mega Man X Legacy collection on this thing!).
I've mostly been keeping it docked so far (which I plan on doing a good 90% of the time), and I'm leaving my Joy Cons permanently attached to the side of the Switch (Pro controller is damn good!)
Not playing Zelda handheld (screen is just too small for it) but I definitely plan on going handheld for smaller games/indie titles (I Am Setsuna, Shovel Knight, Yooka-Laylee...seem perfect on the go.)
Screen seems to be good, fan is not loud, wifi is good, and no scratches from the handful of times I've docked/undocked. Hoping I'm one of the lucky ones, but we'll see as time goes on.

I have always looked at Nintendo since the GameCube as the complimentary console to my PlayStation. The fact that you never played Wii U means you have a lot to catch up on. Mario Kart 8 is fantastic, and GameCube I believe will be on eshop? I think you'll get a lot of use with the Switch since you've been away for so long.
Plus, it's a really great system.
Hmmm I see. It supports up to 2 TB right? That's just not out yet?
And don't games still have to install anyway from the cartridge ala something like PS4? If so what's the benefit of buying it physical?
Hi guys. I just bought.a Switch after not following it for awhile so I don't really know a lot. I really don't care about the TV mode as I would love to just use my Switch as a handheld exclusively.
Is that feasible? Can I charge and use all the other system functions without docking? Or are there things I can't do without the dock?

I think I understand the lack of virtual console at launch. Since they are launching indies that have all gathered positive word of mouth this let's those games be able to be successful.

Has anyone removed the straps themselves from the little click on pieces that give extra button height on the joy cons?
I like having it in sometimes but the strap always gets in my way and I can't seem to get the straps out, looking on the inside rail it looks like you can take a mini screwdriver and take it apart.
Is it necessary to do that to remove the dangling straps?
Or do you have to cut them with scissors?

Thats a very good point, I may jump in once Mari Kart 8 Deluxe launches in April, hopefully stock will be a lot easier to find by then and the online will be up and running etc...

Managed to play with a friend's Switch yesterday. Thoughts:
- Nice heft to it. Properly balanced, feels good, man.
- Build quality is super overhyped. It's okay, levels above toy-crap quality WiiU and 3DS had, but I've held entry-level phones with better build quality. Tolerances for the JoyCon rails are all over the place, with each controller having different resistance sliding in and out. Also, seams are not super flush. Either rushed production, bad QC or cheap build, dunno. Probably a bit of all of them. Plastic feels decently thick and doesn't creak, but has a pretty crap coating that will rub off.
- Screen was already scuffed. Pointed it up to my friend, who hadn't noticed it - he got pretty pissed off.
- Screen calibration is laughable. Feels bad, man. White point is far, far too blue and has a slight pink tint. Nintendo probably gets their panels from several vendors and doesn't do a proper calibration/profiling.
- The right JoyCon is all wrong. Like, really. Button placement is horrid - that analog stick, man - and awkward and whoever thought it was a good idea should be fired or hanged. Both, probably, first fired and then hanged. Ergonomics, in general, are okay, not super comfortable, but passable. Can't get over how bad that right JoyCon is, though.
- That non-D-pad is sad and made me sad
- Both things are a result of the whole mini-controller idea that is... ugh. Using a single JoyCon as a controller isn't super pleasant, even with the strap. I don't think the multiplayer on-the-go use case will be meaningful enough to warrant the compromises. I'd be surprised if more than 1/10 of the owners actually used it that way with any frequency.
- The Pro Controller, on the other hands, is super-fucking-nice. Sweet Jesus. Spot on ergonomics, feels sturdy, well balanced. THAT is a good controller. Everything about it is good, D-pad, analog sticks, button placement, sturdyness. Everything.
- Zelda is beautiful, Zelda is fun and Zelda is life. I need more Zelda.

This is probably already known but might as well mention it!
If you plug the USB adapter from your Sony Pulse Elite Headphones into a powered USB socket (I tried the ones on the side of the Switch Dock but it didnt work) and then run the included audio wire (that comes with the headsets) from the Switch headphone socket to the USB adapter, it'll output it wirelessly to the headset itself once the headset is turned on.
No idea if this will work with the Gold and Platinums as I dont have them and I dont know if the USB adapter has the 3.5mm audio jack on it.
