Nintendo Treehouse Live 10/7 With Pikmin 3 Deluxe and Age of Calamity Gameplay Details

I'm sure the game will be awesome, but I can't avoid but to feel a little disappointed by the massive amounts of asset reuse. Bit of a shame, Nintendo has been on fire with the switch.

Seems like a strange criticism.

Setting aside the fact that it's a completely different type of game, it seems they would want to make the content look like the flashback scenes in BotW as much as possible.

I think it would be more unusual if they didn't have some major reuse of assets (or creating nearly identical assets).

Like if you are playing the game and some guardian enemies show up and they look super different from BotW then people would complain about that.

So it's kind of a lose-lose for the developers there. Use the same assets as BotW and be accused of being lazy or make new assets and be accused of changing things so they look nothing like BotW in your BotW prequel.

I would say they made the right choice to be honest.

So I watched the video, and alright the lon-lon segment is mostly new stuff, the enemies and the farm itself.

But the gerudo segment... oof man. The town is mostly the same, they appear to have shortened some buildings to make the side roads wider to give room for combat, but that's all... and you only fight the small yiga dude and the big yiga dude, which are being reused. The desert is harder to tell because of the haze of the original, but I think it's broadly the same except they added rocks and columns for visual interest and they seem to have removed the big chunk of ruins directly ahead of gerudo town? That or the people making the videos took a wrong turn. And of course Link, Zelda and Barbosa are pulled straight from botw. Super disappointing.
I mean, it makes sense story-wise.

When these kind of things happen these assets are often updated just to avoid the copy pasted look, and they make sense lore wise because things naturally change overtime. But, they haven't. They could've updated Zelda and Barbosa with a different customer, add a few new enemies based on existing enemies... I mean doesn't it grate you that's just small yiga dude and big yiga dude?

Well, those are the outfits that Link, Mipha, Urbosa, Daruk and Rivali used in BotW cutscenes. They are the champions' attires, they are lore related... so, even if it's convenient and "cheap" from the development side of things, it still makes sense... I don't mind it at all.

In terms of enemies, yes, I wish we'd see different and new ones, but that's something I think even of BotW... maybe we'll see some different ones or at least variations (as we've seen the Hyrulean soldiers), but who knows...

They might be the "champions attires" but I bet Urbosa has a wardrobe. It'd even make for a good story, they start with different clothes/armor but as things get critical they don the champion attires and you get the wow moment, the heroes reunited just as they are pictured in botw.

But that would've taken effort...
