What if they delayed Zelda again... 😨😨😨😨

And once again, a ton of you are neglecting the likely handheld component.
You talk as if it's been confirmed beyond a shadow of a doubt. For all we know, the Handheld may be in development under a different codename that isn't even "NX". Even the Apple family devices have different codenames despite them being part of the same family. (iPhone codename =/= iPad codename)

I'm so excited we're in April. Time goes by so fast. It's been over a year since Iwata announced the NX. If we could wait a year we can make a just a few weeks more!

Yep! It's about time this year picked up some steam. Looking at Star Fox, Uncharted, E3 and of course NX over the next few months. Whew.

I seriously hope we get some information soon regarding this thing. They've wasted and are going to waste a full four months by staying silent. It's not like they put out anything that would have been hurt by information about the NX being release. It's not like they're releasing anything either that would be hurt by its announcement. There are other reasons why somethings like Star Fox Zero, Metroid Prime Federation Force, Bravely Second, Tokyo Sessions, and Paper Mario might not do well or get a negative reaction. I don't believe information about a new system will do it if that's their concern for waiting.

What if they delayed Zelda again...

That's a situation I'm not even trying to entertain. While delays don't get to me, another one for Zelda very well could in a big way.

I think we'll get a console that's a powerful as it needs to be profitable at $300. The handheld at $200.

Make this price X 2.

Why should they make a console that cheap.
I want a beast that can compete. Not some cheap plastic. Look at sony, ps4 still cost 350$, so try to be a little realistic.

I hope it will have the same price as a Iphonee 6s or galaxy s7.

I can't tell if this is a serious post or not.

If serious, um are you serious? They make it cheap because they have to compete against the PS4 and XB1 which will see a $300 price tag this holiday. And are you suggesting a $600 system? Hopefully I misread that.

It can top the PS4 and sell for 300-350.

You mean the subsidized costs of those phones, right? If the nx is more powerful than the PS4 then $350 is perfect. If it's $399 it should rival the PS4K or XB1.5.

It should but it won't.

Nintendo prefer cheap consoles so I would expect them to go $250 base after disaster that was Wii U (they won't be going for grunt)

I don't know how the Supplemental Computing Device would work exactly, but Nintendo could make a cheap console and sell the SCD to attach to your NX console for much more power.

Like $250 for console which is a little stronger than PS4 then sell $100 SCD attachment for a much more powerful jump in power.

Yeah...lol like I said I don't know how the SCD thing would work if it turns out to be real.

I'm just saying that we got only 2gens where Nintendo is the weakest of the 3. Nes, snes, n64 and gc wasn't. If people want to pay that much for a ps4 why wouldn't they do that for a good Nintendo device. If their marketing is good and they can get all 3rd party devs. Why not? Xbox is also the weakest one of both and the sales aren't to be happy about. If Nintendo get the weakest one again and xbox 1.5 and ps4.5 would be released. Why would people buy a nx device?

Wait....you think the NX should cost $600? And you think it will be a success at that price?

Seriously?

Gamecube did terribly. Not a good argument.

Also, your ifs are huge ifs. The third party one is a huge risk. Banking on them is pointless for Nintendo.

I think we're going to go back to a very streamlined spartan design, ala GameCube but with an SoC. I'm not expecting SD Card ports like the Wii and Wii U, nor lots of IC's like Nintendo's competitors, nor an Ethernet jack or Digital Optical (why would they introduce the later now?). Nintendo is going to avoid expensive exotic hardware minus a gimmick or two.

GameCube didn't do well sure, but it was powerful and cheap, as Nintendo's ability to discount helped attest. No reason not to go back to that design philosophy it shared with the N64. For a Nintendo that's going to be worried about price sensitivity, this is the way to go.

I agree with this. Even if GameCube bombed, they got two more consoles from the same tech, 15 years worth. I think we'll see now the Nintendo console we'll have for the next 15 years.

I really hope there's optical digital out. I sorely missed 5.1 on Wii U.

Yeah, that's a good point, they can build on it. Their most successful console ever was a refinement of GameCube CPU and GPU tech.

I think Nintendo doing uncompressed linear PCM surround sound over HDMI like the Wii U does will continue. It avoids the licencing fees they don't like to pay, like with the lack of Blu-ray playback, and it's supported more and more by modern surround sound systems.

I don't understand Nintendo and Wi-Fi though, internet over the Ethernet jack is more reliable and should really be included in a console.

Gotta agree here, lack of an ethernet port is my only real gripe with the system

LPCM is better in general, and has the added benefit of there being no license fees, something which Nintendo likes to avoid. You might want to just upgrade your hardware.

I'd have to figure that one out. I just have the basic Logitech z-whatever 5.1 system. If I can't hook it into that, upgrading sound just isn't in the picture for me right now, unfortunately.

Whatever happened with that SCD patent? Is that still on the table for NX speculation?
It's coming along, there have been some amendments to it in order to solve some issues. I talked briefly to the inventor, Joe Bentdahl, a while ago and he's very happy about it. I mainly gave him my best wishes on the matter, there was no intriguing info shared. Hopefully they can make it something useful for NX.

I would seriously just give up on Nintendo and become a cheese enthusiast instead from that point forward.

If Nintendo were to get rid of the Xenoblade series or Monolith Soft or console JRPG's in general AND Zelda then I'd probably join you. Since they haven't (yet), I won't.

There are a lot of titles on the Wii U I enjoy. The Wii U has had FAR more use from me than my PS4 has. I liked Type-0 HD on my PS4 (does that even count since it's originally a PSP game?), Episode Duscae, Premium FF demo... Division, slightly, with friends and Bloodborne.

So far, on my Wii U, I've enjoyed Xenoblade Chronicles X, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Smash Bros U, Mario Kart 8, New Super Mario / Luigi U, 3D Mario World and Captain Toad.

That's your problem then. The amount of quality titles available on PS4 ape what is available on Wii U. To be fair the handful of good titles the Wii U does have are legendary status.

Wait so it is being used for NX or am I misreading you?

I have no problems with the PS4. I just... kind of wish that I waited if that PS4K rumor is true. I'll likely sell my existing PS4 to a friend and upgrade but I wouldn't have had to go through the hassle or would have been able to save a few $$.

The upcoming lineup PS4 has is stellar. It's just... right now it doesn't have a lot for me. Not until some of their supposed 2016 games actually release. ;)

My Predictions:

- NX will be a family of systems running the same OS, will use physical (cartridges) and digital cross-buy, and will somehow tie into PC and mobile
- Systems in this family will include a new handheld this year, new home console next year, and the Wii U
- Freeform displays will be used in some capacity for the controllers/handheld
- New home system will be able to stream to handheld units, much like it's described in the "SCD" patent
- New home system will also be able to stream to multiple gamepads for multi-screen local multiplayer
- New portable will be able to stream to TVs/monitors via an HDMI dongle
- Launch games this year will include a new 3D Mario, Zelda, Animal Crossing, new version of Smash Bros, Square Enix's multiplatform titles, and possibly stuff from Ubisoft and Activision
- Launch lineup for the new home console next year will include titles that take advantage of the multi-screen local multiplayer, including a Destiny sequel, mainline Metroid Prime game that has co-op modes (which is why they are introducing this now with Federation Force), the Division or possibly a sequel, a version of Overwatch, and likely a sequel to Splatoon.
- An upgraded and expanded Virtual Console is coming to NX as well, possibly including a new subscription service

This is just a prediction, mind you, but it'll be interesting to look at this after E3 and see if I got anything at all correct.

I do not know if the SCDs are going to be used for NX. But I hope they will. I should have made my original post clearer.

That's ok. This is the place to share your hopes, doubts and fears.

On a serious note, can somebody humor me and get the R&D figures from the last few annual reports? I'm curious to compare the R&D expenditures from the wiiU period to the NX one. Thanks.

Nintendo has disappoint me a lot in the past, hopefully they learned from there mistakes.

I'm hoping for a launch with Zelda nx, a new Mario game, and a glimpse of metroid nx.
(and a glimpse of fzero)

And (this is never gonna happen) but it would be so clever if the make a Mario wiiu collection with Mario, Mario kart and smashbros wiiu all on one disc (or card) for 60bucks for the nx at launch.

When 60% of the above happens, I'm in and I'm going to buy one. If not I'm gonna buy the Playstation VR.
