I was legit scared for him when they had him trapped in that little waiting room. He's looking at the cop walking out of the office and turns to see the other standing in the opening.

Dude is like the chill version of

9Mks5H5.gif

ye ole hair yank pull down.

This is why they fear us.. lol. his face after it didn't work.

is this type of behavior accepted by most people? pull out a camera and start acting like a fucking juvenile jack ass in front of cops? what is the purpose of with holding his id card? or answering which room hes staying in? could have probably be done with it in a few minutes if he had complied. instead he turns on a camera to record his bullshit so he can show world star how legit he is.

I'd say it's a smart thing to have a record of yourself not doing anything wrong while an officer that has apparent authority to kill you for nothing is coming at you.

I wish that what I wrote was hyperbole, too.

I always love how it comes down to "It would have been over with a lot sooner if he had just complied" as if that's the point. The cop used that one too. A rich white man in the parking lot of his estate is not going to be harassed for sitting in his car eating oatmeal. In fact, open carry activists get a free pass to be juvenile jack asses, and there's a reason why.

Why give over his card? "I'll tell you later," yeah, fuck that. You tell me after you run my name through the system for whatever petty crime you can, all because I was sitting in the parking lot eating? Where's the warrant? People who look at things like this aren't really taking the big picture into account. I probably wouldn't have been as much of a smart ass as he was, but that's not because he was wrong for it, it's because I know they could have busted open those windows if they felt like it.

Cops coast on this overwhelming wave of authority, irrespective of justice or law. He has no cause to search his vehicle, and therefore, he can be refused. The only reason why you (and he) think he can't be is because the public lets the police get away with a lot more than they are legally allowed to. The issue becomes less "this man is suspicious" and more "this man has the gall to defy my authority."

Even when the guy said "fuck," that was a problem. "I didn't curse at you, why are you cursing at me?" Fuck that.

Depends on the point of the stop. Depending on the state, citizens don't have to comply with a Terry stop or even show/carry ID. So the question is, what if the person didn't have ID?

And no, any other information isn't required by law.

All he really should've said was "Excuse me officer. Are you detaining me, or am I free to go?"

Pretty much this.

Fuck the cops.

In what world are we required to hand over ID, tell a cop which hotel room we are staying in, and feel bad about filming a cop? The cops should have came up, identified themselves, shown their ID, and then told him exactly why they were talking to him. The cop literally said they'd tell the guy with the camera why they were talking to him AFTER he handed over his ID... Like, wtf? Just tell the guy why you're bothering him.

Anyway, this dude is bulletproof. I expected him to be deader than dead by the end of the video.

Australia you have to.

You dont have to answer any other questions other than your name and address though. You can be charged for not identifying yourself.

My favorite part was the officer getting all offended when the guy implied that they were bothering him for no reason. "You don't know me." No self awareness at all. The poor persecuted cop who continually refuses to tell the guy why they're talking to him.

just saved me a long jumbled version of this. This isn't exactly the liberty our forefathers were talking about.

"Bleh, just let abusive cops abuse you! It will be done faster!"

Sounds like advice young women are given in certain situations.

Pathetic logic, is pathetic.

There's always one in every thread.

I hope you considered the 100s of years of continual bullshit black people have put up with, including slavery, murder, disproportionate incarceration, legal and illegal discrimination, hatred and harassment, before you typed this stupid blob of shit.

What's funny here is it's obvious the cop wanted a fight or beat the living shit out of the guy. He was so frustrated, and it was obvious. The guy made him look like he had no authority at all. The way he came at the guy when he walked into the office also "Oh, you want to talk now?" The approach, the look on his face and the overall body language screamed a person rearing for a fight or physical altercation of some kind, but the guy wisely didn't take the bait. Rather than play the tough guy, he simply (which further had to frustrate the officer) turned his defenseless back to the officer and kept the camera on him.

Have you not seen all the shitty cop stories? Filming your interactions with the cops is almost becoming a requirement now, and no, you're not going to tell a cop where you live and give them your ID when they will not tell you why they need either of those things. If the cop had a legitimate reason and explained it to the guy in a polite manner then maybe he may have been more cooperative, otherwise it just looks like he's harassing people for the crime of eating oatmeal whilst black.

If they'd just do what we say it'd be over real soon.

There is a lot of anger in this post.

Omg, the look on the cops face when he sees ol'dude is out of the car, fucking hilarious. I'm crying on the Bart watching this.

If the cops were called because the motel owner didn't want some guy loitering on their property the cops have fair game to be suspicious. That said, after the guy gave him a name the cops should have just gone to the front desk and checked if the guy had a room there. Then come back, knocked on the guys window and tell him to have a nice day.

I think he might be the officer that was embarrassed. :P

nope. so it seems ive lit a fire. so let me ask this, do all of you who quoted me deny every request a cop makes every time you have come in contact with one? maybe not to extent of the dude in the video, but when a cop pulls you over and asks for an ID, do you tell him no? just for the sake of not violating your rights? I must have skipped the part in life where everyone else was taught to not talk to the police because fuck them. i understand that they are under the spotlight due to recent events, but whats also seemed to surface a lot more is people behind a camera acting like assholes in front of police. maybe its just me, but whenever i come in contact with police i act like a normal person. and my skin is brown, for whatever thats worth because judging by some of the posts here it seems like that is one of justifications for videos like this.

I dunno, I'm a white guy so my interactions with the cops don't mean shit in context to this video.

Yeah, he got all uppity real fast because this is probably the first time it happens to him rather than a insidious everyday thing implicitly approved by a society that only pretends to care so the can dissaprove when he decides to not comply 100%.

damn

Just wondering, have you seen any of the multitudes of videos of people of color being brutally beaten/murdered by cops that are literally everywhere?

Google Floyd Dent.

You can and possibly will be beaten mercilessly regardless of what you do.

The last time I was stopped? Yes, because I was running and didn't have ID. Again, depending on your state, you're not required to carry ID, or consent to a Terry stop. Hell, in my state, I don't even have to identify myself, but I did. That's extra. That's me going above and beyond.

If an officer wishes to detain me, the least they can do is tell me why they're stopping me. Not after I comply with an illegal order, before.

yep, i have. so the logical response to situations like that is to increase your chances of getting your ass beat by being non-cooperative?

Hey, I'm not saying you have to risk a beating, but if you don't use your rights, you'll lose them.

Which is generally why we have people believing officers can order you to do whatever they want.

EDIT: In this situation, the guy stood up for his rights. You did not like how he did it, but the fact is people are happy that he did so and was not beaten for it. Which should be the norm. In eesence, your post is quote because it comes across as "That guy shouldn't have observed his rights as a citizen."

No you haven't. Or at least you don'\t understand shit:

Filming gives you a chance for evidence if this shit does happen. You don't give them leeway to be assholes, and you certainly don't give them leeway with your rights after your entire race can and will be persecuted for the smallest things with outright murder.

Cooperation doesn't stop you from being smothered to death.

yep, i have. so the logical response to situations like that is to increase your chances of getting your ass beat by being non-cooperative?

Maybe the question shouldn't be "why are y'all being uncooperative" and should be "why are cops beating my ass for being uncooperative"?

If a cop pulls me over, gives me a valid reason for pulling me over and showing him my ID then I'll cooperate just fine. Pulling me over for no reason at all and saying that he'll only tell me the reason after I've shown him my ID isn't going to fly.

yep, i have. so the logical response to situations like that is to increase your chances of getting your ass beat by being non-cooperative?

It's pretty sad that we've gotten to the point whereby you comply with illegal stop and searches from the people who are meant to be protecting you for fear of having your ass beat by them.

yep, i have. so the logical response to situations like that is to increase your chances of getting your ass beat by being non-cooperative?

The officer refused to tell him the reason why they were talking to him...over and over again. The officer was the uncooperative one, not the guy in the car. If they had a legitimate reason to talk, maybe the guy would have helped them out.

It's pretty clear that being harassed by police for no reason happens to the guy a lot. Eventually people get fed up with it.

When the cop is radioing dispatch trying to make the dude sound more dangerous than he really was.

"He's probably armed"

Fuck you, dickhead cop

Actually, in most states, if you're pulled over while driving, you do have to show ID.

In this case, he was sitting in the parking lot, so he may not have to produce ID, depending on his state.

Waiving the few rights you have left in an authoritative state seems like a much better way to eventually get your ass beat...

I for one don't want to end up dead, falsely charged or in the hospital on the basis of voluntary compliance.

What was the guy doing that warranted the harassment from the cop? Why is he required to be cooperative?

I'm guessing the cops did it at the end but when they saw his name on one of his cards (the "all the information they need about me" card) they should have went to the main hotel office and asked if a Williams is registered there. Police seem to do little investigation work these days, well other than getting id cards to run it through a database.

Also my sister eats in her car often if she came from a fast food place and before leaving the car parked under the driveway. Some people like to chill in their car before moving out. Especially if a song or radio show is playing and is getting good to you. Cars are very comfortable.

It's Virginia. No idea what the rule is here regarding parking lots.

Nothing this man did in the video makes him worthy of getting his ass beat. The fact that you (and everyone else who knows anything about US law enforcement) are afraid of getting your ass beat (or getting killed) for behaving like this man did in the video says a lot about the current issues with US law enforcement.

Accent too thick for me.
Did they clear up why they were bothering him?
