I just wasted 2 damn hours hunting this shit down from merchant to merchant. I probably visited all 5 planets & 3 moons of my damn star system TWICE but no luck. I was going crazy man lollll. I ended up waiting for a good 5-10 minutes at the space station and talking to every damn ship that came in until one of them finally had some damn antimatter to sell.

Now, I'm ready for my first jump. However, this galaxy ain't ready for me. I will unleash such fury upon anything and everything in my path that the gods themselves shall contemplate their own existence.

Do a scan as soon as you enter your new system, and there's a good chance you'll get a waypoint to the antimatter recipe

I'm enjoying my time with the game so far, but at the same time it feels.....weird.

I can't describe it.

I mean sure there's technically a story path to follow, but at the same time there's really no need to if you don't wanna.

You could spend hundreds of hours exploring a single planet if you really wanted to. You could probably blast right through the planet with the grenades and come out the other side of you felt like it.

It just feels weird not to be hamstrung I guess. It's been difficult to basically drop everything I've learned from other games, as this makes none of that matter.

Probably already been posted, but the upper limit for the exosuit seems to be 48 slots. Bummer.

Here's my current Multi-tool. Still need to install the 3 and 4s that I have but I'm missing Aluminum, Gold and Chrysonite.

I wish they made some way to import your save, but that's not possible apparently. I'll miss those things tomorrow when I start the PC version.

Are you using the mining beam to fight sentinels?

I'd love more info on this. Or any experience with it. This is sort of my biggest reservation with the game. I just want to know my exploration is worth more than my time.
I honestly haven't done much caving yet as I don't have the upgrade installed to let you carve through them yourself yet, which can be extremely important if you get lost. But I mean, if you consider profit to be adequate worth then that is certainly there 100%, you can find really rich deposits and at least make bank exploring caves for sure.

I should mention kind of in the vein of what you're getting at though, in an abandoned factory I found a rare crafting recipe for an alloy that sells for a lot, it's super awesome and was very satisfying to find and felt properly rare when it popped up. But that was result of exploring the surface and I don't know if such items can ever be found down in caves.

I'm only on my second solar system and was getting worried about not being able to ever make it back to my "home" system. I can't navigate the galaxy map manually for shit. Then I realized my online status has been the red circle and 'You have lost connection to online services' probably 80% of the entire time I've been playing. (didn't get to play last night, but played Tuesday and a lot of today).

I fully rebooted my PS4, logged in, made sure I had the green circle with 'Online Services Active', went to the galaxy map, searched for discoveries, and hit select nearest. It immediately went back to my first named system & let me set a waypoint. This was a purple marker and line on the third L1-R1 menu up top, so it was the third view option. It looks like you can have a total of 3 waypoints saved unless the menu expands.

I did this twice just to test, and twice it worked. However I am losing connection to online services so much that it seems like it's almost never working. I think the key is to have them get their servers stable and lots of small issues like this will suddenly be nice.

Why would finding old systems not work if you aren't connected? Sean said you can play the whole game offline. Is this not true?

Are you using the mining beam to fight sentinels?
I just started doing that with my own multitool. I bought a decent one and started planning out my upgrades. Realized the choosing between Beam and Bolt would cost so much space so I'm going pure beam*.

Working out well enough so far even with the the increased difficulty I've encountered. I kept plasma grenades for digging shelters and opening doors.

My next 1m credits will go to suit upgrades.
Then after that I'll be looking for an 8-10m ship.

Spelunking can be a blast. On the moon I've been on I was 3-4 minutes away from my ship and the decision of whether or not to turn back was real. Kept going.

Eventually I got so lost I had to blast my way to the surface. Easy to do since caves have so much plutonium.

I really like this game.

Thanks, it'll be the first thing I'll do after I make the first jump. I needed that damn recipe sooo bad lol. Had pretty much all the elements needed to make it too but the no recipe got me good.

Also, there's definitely a deeper underlying story to this game. I'm 230+ words learned now and can read a ton of stuff.
I am the first spawn they keep talking about, aren't I?

The Atlas/discoveries network is an online feature, and for the moment it's the only way to actually see the locations of systems you've visited previously. You can return to previous systems even offline, it's just extremely hard to find them after making a jump.

When is it "safe" to switch to the pre-order ship? Last time I waited until I had the hyperdrive recipe, but the game never gave me the antimatter one. I restarted and just got the antimatter recipe and made warp fuel, so is it safe to redeem it?

Can someone explain how the boltcaster works, please? I normally use the mining laser but on the rare occasion I find a locked facility I have to use the boltcaster. Apparently that's easier said than done though. Sometimes I can hover over the boltcaster slot, click on it and it works (and then I'm stuck with a gun unless I dismantle the boltcaster). Other times, like right now, I can't get it to activate. It's fully charged but has a red outline.

What is the problem/glitch? The first thing I did was redeem the ship as the notification wouldn't leave my HUD. Hope it didn't mess with my game.

I don't think this game unfairly overhyped itself. With the exception of maybe not having too much to do in the beginning of the game (I am still quite early in the game tbh), I think the game totally delivers on the scope and is exactly what I imagined it to be.

I'll be honest that I expected it to have more of an instant gratification factor and it does in some areas but I find myself wondering if there is anything to do outside of going to the center.

I get pretty burnt out playing for hours and hours but the game is really damn exciting to play once you take a break and come back. I really like the game but I will probably play in shorter bursts until I find some decent meta-game to get hooked on. Right now I am mostly 100% planets for credits. Which can be pretty satisfying but I still haven't even done a single dogfight.

Overall though, I am not disappointed.

I think I may have accidentally set manual waypoints as mentioned a page or two back; I have two waypoints for shelters on another planet in this system that continue to be on my HUD even though I'm on another planet, it's actually pretty annoying >_>

What's the largest multi-tool people have seen? Sitting on an 18 one right now, I've seen 20s pop up but I'm having a really hard time finding some of the materials in the system I'm in right now that I would need to recraft all the blueprints on my current one so haven't upgraded yet.

Also I'm confused as to why the laser is more effective in space combat than the photon canon. Directly related, is there any benefit to taking the boltcaster stuff for your Multi-tool? As far as I can tell the only thing you can't use the mining laser to damage is the Steel doors in the abandoned (?) outposts, seems like you have to use the boltcaster or plasma grenades?

Press triangle to toggle between mining lazer and gun mode.
Don't dismantle.

The ultimate test to make sure you're in the clear is just to go to a space station and make sure the ships you see have hyperdrives installed. If they do then you're fine. You can even make the switch within that space station for peace of mind.

Any idea why there's a "coffee stain" on my LE.....?

Well, not really coffee, of course.....but there's some brownish dirt on the ride side of the front artwork that looks out of place, kinda. At first I was really irked by this, of course.....but then while looking at my order details on Amazon I realized that the very same stain is on their product site!
Look at this!

So either they used my very copy for their product photo :), or it's....normal. However, I've only seen it on the German USK version, not on UK nor US boxes....but I have seen neither in person so maybe it's there?

Yeah, may be a silly issue, but I'm seriously wondering if Germany got an exclusive Coffee Stain Edition here! ^^

If I see a ship I like, but hate the layout of its conponents, I can dismantle them and rebuild, right?

They have them installed, but all the components seem to be broken or in need of recharge. Is that normal?

Ah, yeah that seems kind of an oversight. Hopefully they fix that (along with all the other bugs/crashes/features they're buried under).

1) build a hyperdrive
2) get antimatter
3) craft a warp cell

That should "complete" the hyperdrive tutorial. Check that ships at the station have a hyperdrive. If so, you should be safe to switch to the pre-order shp.

Question for anyone who has completed the Atlus path.

I'm at the part where I have the option to give birth to a new star. From what I read, this sort of ends the game, but starts you over? Do you keep all of your money, items, etc? Can you then journey to the center of the 'new' universe like you had the option to the the original?

...

What in the absolute fuck is wrong with me. Thank you.
Most welcome. You ain't the only one man, the game's not that intuitive with this aspect. A bunch of people had the same issue waaay earlier in this thread. And will in the future as well me thinks.

I know I did when I started. The "press Triangle to change" was mind blowing.

Now I noticed, the health icons (not shield) from your ship don't regen? I can repair the shields but I can't get the health back.
Not positive yet, but I think the only way to actually repair is to talk to the attendants in space stations. You may need good standing with the race occupying it. Doesn't seem to cost anything, though.

However it also seems to go back to full if you quit and come back to the game.

Wait what?
So the Atlus path is collect 10 stones and get auto warped to the core?

Awesome starter guide Figboy.

It definitely pays for new players to know that Exosuit upgrades are something you can seek right from the start. It should allay some of the initial frustration people are having with inventory management.

They really start to add up once you have the
AtlasPass and can find one in every space station
, too.

Thank you! I hope it can help some of the new folks that went in blind!

And yes, I'm looking forward to that. I haven't gotten that far yet, because I'm still in love with my starter system! I should be out of it tonight. I already got a sneak peek at the next system I'm heading to, because I hyper-space jumped to it during the tutorial, but I had to backtrack to my starter planet to get the blueprints and finish up my last moon's checklist!

I have only found about 3 suit upgrades so far on my moon. Can you spoiler tag how I get that other item, or is it something I should naturally come across? If it's something I will naturally come across, I don't need to know how to get it!

Guess I'm going to have to buy AntiMatter in the mean time? I'm on my second system and haven't been seen it outside of the Galactic Market.

Also feel like I fucked up by choosing not to go with Atlas in the beginning of the game...

Don't feel that way. There's some narrative lore that you'll get at Atlas Stations, and a slightly different ending. Beyond that, you'll have access to everything everyone else does, despite the path you choose.

With that being said, you'll have another chance. You're still pretty early, but after you warp a few more times you'll be
contacted by Atlas
. (Make sure to meet as many aliens as possible in the mean time.) At this point, you'll be given three options for resources.

Resources for Exploration (The Exploration Path)
Explore the galaxy at your own will, and reach the core on your own time. Forge your own path, basically.

Resources for Reaching the Core (The Black Hole Path)
Harness the power of black holes by using them to warp closer to the galactic core. Basically, get to the core faster.

Continue with The Atlas Path (The Atlas Path)
Learn more about Atlas. Keep your Atlas Stones!

The end game is the same for everyone. We're all going to the galactic core, eventually. Anyone can run into a
black hole or an Atlas Station
, regardless of the path they chose. They simply won't be marked on the map, so it'll be a surprise.

For what it's worth, I declined the Atlas' guidance at the start of the game, too. I've been on the Atlas path since then. Also know that you'll still have access to the Atlas pass stuff, whether or not you choose to take their path. The blueprints can be found on planet outposts and ? markers.

It seems that i should be clear to redeem my code then. I crafted my Warp Cell (crafted by crafting first other item which in turn i got by crafting other item, which i got after buying some weird green goo from a galactic store lol)

So my quest (bottom right of hud) used to say what to do, now it just says new discovery, record creature species. I'm now at a space station looking to build a hyper drive and have no idea what I'm suppose to do.

Thanks! Rebooting did the trick.

How can you keep your Atlas stones with limited inventory and no storage box?

God damn this game needs a mother ship so fucking hard. You can build it, design it, mod it, upgrade it - and it's used to travel system to system, and you simply break away on your smaller ship to explore planets and do inter-solar system travel.

I love this game, but damn if this game had a beta (open or closed) and more time in the oven it could been something truly special. It's still great though.

your multi tool has two modes.

mining and gun

press triangle to switch between the modes.

also, don't waste mod space on combat upgrade on your mining tool if you're not using your mining tool for combat.
Oh, no, I got that. I've just been disassembling and reassembling over and over every time I need to switch.

And I feel dumb.

I honestly haven't done much caving yet as I don't have the upgrade installed to let you carve through them yourself yet, which can be extremely important if you get lost. Interesting, thanks. I feel like this sort of exploration and reward is what I need. I love exploring and such, but I just need something outside of satisfaction and cool pics.

I'm about seven hours into this. Done a little bit of everything - exploration, trading, both space and on-foot combat, getting a new ship, upgrading my suit etc. and I'm getting this very gradual "is this it?" feeling. There's still a lot to be discovered, I'm sure, but I'm not expecting the very core of this to change for the remaining hours.

If so, I'm not sure I'll stick around. Every mechanic is just serviceable enough to not turn me off completely and keep playing, but I'm not having too much fun. Also doesn't help that every planet in the three systems I've been so far has been the definition of boring. I'm seeing mostly lifeless rocks with the occasional heat and acidic rain, only one could be considered even mildly interesting.

I think I just need one unexpected cool thing to happen - quest, secret, planet, anything, and I could be into this.
