No Man's Sky |OT| Hello Worlds.

Not open for further replies.
I'm not picking this up until noon today. Then I have a half day to play and it is going to be put aside until mid/late September because I am getting married and need to plan and travel and stuff.

Maybe if I bring my PS TV and play when she sleeps...

by the way tip about the Alpha Vector preorder ship – just say Accept, after you open the screen from the Redeem option in the Options menu. You'll get a trade screen but it doesn't really matter at this point, you can't swap anything (a bit confusing) but Accept the ship and that will become your new ship. It's appreciably better than the starting one, has a warp drive, and looks like an old Cylon interceptor which is dope. It's not too OP though as you still have to repair the booster I think (I did anyways).

Apparently you miss a big chunk of the tutorial though.

Put an hour in last night, and got the materials to fix my ship. Having a blast with the material collection loop and how it gives reasons to explore through an objective.

Excited to get into space today.

There's an Australian band called Sleepmakeswaves and by god their music will fit this game perfectly. I'm really eager to play it alongside the game come Friday.

No. You just share names of discovered stuff.

Yes. The game is a shared universe and in theory, you can run across other players.

That said, we don't know anything about the mechanics of player-to-player interaction, and because it will be incredibly rare, who knows how long until the first meeting is.

Mixed answers, is it possible to find other players or not?

And if yes, is technically possible to give coordinates and meet up somewhere?

Edit: So yeah, we dont know and people are giving answers, sigh. Hopefully they will put in place a teleport system, this game will greatly benefit from jolly cooperation.

Dude this is like the second or third time you've made this comment when you obviously don't have the game. You're basing this on what then? Stop already.

ha, sure son, since you ask so nicely.

I love how someone claiming there are hidden/unknown mechanics and me asking him to elaborate when I have personally watched at least 20-30 hours of people streaming and also talked to countless people who have played the game for days is seen as some negative affront to this game.

Hey, you know what? I'm gonna buy the game. Look I'm one of you now! You can lay off!

Grow up,seriously.

Alright, got it, theoretically possible.

Hmm kind of janky so far. Didn't expect mining to be such a chore.

Havent landed on a world that made me say wow yet. But I am only 2 hours into the game.

What price are you seeing the game at? also what price do you normally buy new releases at?

Currently you can get it for £44 and upwards, that's about £4 more than "the norm".

The reason it's this price is because retailers know it's in demand and they don't have to price it down to get it to sell.

I got my copy for £37, there have been multiple times leading to release where it's been below £40. Just wait and bit and buy it from ebay second hand or wait on shops dropping the price in a couple of weeks if money is an issue.

i don't think i've ever bought a PS4 game for more than £35 and some places are selling it for £49.99 with some free credits and postcards. even the likes of uncharted 4 didn't sell for that much. i got deus ex for £32 too. maybe i just missed the deals. i can wait.

Sure. These get increasingly spoilery, but I'm not too far in the game so I'm not ruining any end-game or late-game shit or anything. Also a couple are just more depth/angles on things we have already seen:

1.
There are puzzles in the game. Mathematical/code breaking ones. You'll find certain rooms/outposts that have system scanners (which have been left on) and you have to select the next part of a code/formula which is displayed on the right. For example

'You see that the scanner has picked up a signal from a distant planet. If you can insert the right missing piece of information, perhaps you will uncover something.

Code: 8712 - 7128 - 1287 - XXXX

What do you type in?

- 2871
- 2718
- 2817'

Select the right one and you get a new schematic or a new point of interest (probably a ship, a monolith, or a factory).

2.
There is a quest system including bounties, hunts, wars, resource collection - but there seem to be even more varieties we haven't seen.

For example, one time I met an alien from a race I didn't know that well, and the description was like 'The alien looks perturbed and emits a faintly sour scent. He is looking at a data pad with another alien on it. He gestures the pad towards me. He needs help. What do you do?'

The alien's dialogue I only partly understood - I just understood him saying the name of his race and the word 'help'.

My options were:

'Advise the alien to seek counsel'
'Refuse to help the alien'
'Agree to help the alien'

Being a stand-up guy, I agreed to help him, and I got the flavour text:

'The alien looks ecstatic that you decided to take his place. He hands you the data pad featuring your wife-to-be.

Now you just have to wait for the marriage call...'

3.
The Sentinels' wanted system works almost exactly like the police in GTA V, with stealth/patrolling and everything.

Get spotted destroying something continuously, or aggro them, and you will get 1-2 "stars".

One of them will have a radio and will make a call for support. Destroy that one to stop them calling for backup.

Destroy the remaining ones and the wanted stars will fade away.

Alternatively you can go pacifist, and use stealth to hide from them. Legit like hide behind buildings, in caves, around cliffs etc. They have actual line of sight and will patrol the area for you.

4.
There is some sort of over-arching story about a conflict between the Atlas and rebels who are against it. The rebels seem to be called Nada and Polo or something. I haven't seen much of this but from what I've heard it gets deeper.

The mechanic is that they each give you different places to go or different objectives to meet, and I think following one path locks the other. You also get different 'galactic POIs' to go visit - the Atlas has commanded me to go to a certain system, and now that gets its own little blue 'trail' on the Galactic Map. I've no idea what will happen when I get there, but I assume it'll be some story content, maybe with more dialogue choices.

Awesome post! Clears everything up for me. Thanks for taking the time to answer questions.

The galaxy is so incomprehensibly large it's almost impossible to run across another player.

Its too big, even if the game sold 100m copies the chances of encountering another player are close to zero.

Aren't all the planets in the galaxy randomly/procedurally generated though meaning no game world will be the same for each player?

Or is every player in the same universe but starting at different locations? 0o

I adore Don't Starve and proudly call it one of my favorite games ever. I realize not everything is for everyone, but as someone who is receptive to procedurally generated games with survival or crafting or whatever, I just couldn't find a way to like NMS in my couple hour with it. I may try a bit more later but it's not looking good for me.

I have no agenda. I bought the game. I wanted to like it. What crazy person would pay money for a game they don't want to like?

Getting to complain about something being bad is like the little silver lining after a shitty purchase.

Aren't you the guy who was totally hating on Uncharted 4 in that games OT?
Not that I have a problem with people disliking a game that has entered in my top 5 list of all time (have been playing videogames since the early 90's), but it does mean I can safely ignore your opinion on No Man's Sky since we have such wildly different tastes in games.
Personally I can enjoy a game even if it's gameplay mechanics are not terribly compelling / polished. For me, story / lore, atmosphere, music and immersiveness can make a game woth playing even in the absence of the best gameplay.
I loved Catherine for heavens sake.

It's the same universe and the worlds will all be the same for every player but everyone starts in a different location.

Just looked at the UK source code, I see this

Ah, the countdown code must be based on IP rather than store region. 6pm in the UK is 5pm GMT/UTC, so:

...which, yeah, is 1am here. Not sure why the Superfight DLC page says 11pm, then.

I may have messed up the game progression. I've been to 2 solar systems and it still thinks my hyperdrive doesn't work so it's making me do a quest for it. Didn't I used hyperdrive to go to another system?

I don't have any understanding about how to make antimatter. Should I have gotten info about this?

Did you redeem the preorder ship?

Look at the crafting you can do within the ship's inventory.

You can build antimatter there, but you will need another component first that you can also craft from the ship's inventory crafting menu.
Yes I did. Is this the confusion?

Oh yeah, this is it. The pre-order ship fucks up the game progression some.

Pre-ordered it on the PS4 a few months ago and now tempted to double dip now that I got a dell xps w/ a GeForce 960M video card.

Anyone else buying the PS4 & PC version?

Even if you do come across another player, what could you do..... nothing.

"Oh hey... another player, cool."

So am I boned. Do I need to go back to my first system?

Klyka - you know there may be stuff in the game which hasn't been on a stream? It's a big universe, after all.

No beef, btw.

Dude this is like the second or third time you've made this comment when you obviously don't have the game. You're basing this on what then? Stop already.

It's all good with Klyka. He was including streams, wondering if there's stuff he hadn't seen in them, but he didn't define he was including streams, so I argued based on what is officially announced.

Even if you redeem the pre-order DLC it is listed as a separate item from the game in your download list. You can choose in this case, simply download one and ignore the other.

For folks that redeemed the content this issue can be easily avoided.

It downloaded everything in the preload. When I booted up the game I was already getting the prompts and redeemed before knowing there was a problem.

Totally no feeling this game, played for about 1hr and dam it dull. Should have skipped, dislike minecraft and survival games and this just seems to be them put together...
