OT2 by Friday at this speed :o

Hoping that with the Steam version of the game you can just uncheck the pre-order DLC ship and not even have to worry about it being a variable at all. If not, I'll just redeem it after I take off my home planet.

So I've been on media blackout for this game. How easy is it to die several hours in and lose everything you've worked towards? That's usually not my type of thing.

It's fairly tough to die on most planets and even if you do a grave will mark where you died, if you return to it you get to collect your things.

Haven't played yet myself, but save points seem to be frequent and I think you trigger a save each time you get out of your ship. When you do die, you can just go back to your "grave" and get whatever items you lost.

Ah nice. Do you just get one chance to get your body with your stuff, like old school mmos, or multiple cracks at it?

Has anyone seen the limited edition out in the wild?

My best buy shipment won't come until tomorrow but I dunno if I can wait, especially if stores like Target are getting copies...

Ugh. After two and half hours of play I can safely say that the absolute worst thing about No Man's Sky is
when you're not playing No Man's Sky :(

Really curious if some thought went into the Remote Play controls for this.

I should be sleeping but I'll check it out now. I'll edit this post in a minute.

Edit: Seems pretty standard. Everything is on the front touch screen rather than the rear. So L3 (scan) is a tap of the bottom left and R3 (sprint) is a tap of the bottom right, R2 and L2 are the top corners of the touch screen. I feel like it all works pretty well.

So is the best thing to do run around the starter planet and farm everything? Or just do X objective and get out of there?

That avatar tho.

Some players spend hours walking around the planet exploring, and some just quickly get off. Really up to you, if your planet sucks I would just bail and find a better one :p

All up to you really I've learned 30 words just off my starting planet, couple upgrades to my gun, suit protection from chemical hazards, and found a crashed ship with more slots that I fixed up.

Well I just bought a copy, so if I like it I guess I'll double dip on the PC version (as long as it's a good port). :p

Is this a part with one of the 3 choices/paths they mentioned in the patch notes?
I'm in the UK so I won't be playing until the morning.

Don't know yet, extreme radiation storm came when I was walking to it rofl had to go back to my ship.

Played about 5 hours and safe to say wont be playing again. Got boring quite quickly and the game itself doesnt do a good job to keep you sucked in

Pilot ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ at your service! :3

Yeah I guess thats true. Hope I get a nice balanced and chilled out one so I can relax with it after work on Friday.

Wow. You need to learn the languages too!?

WAT

IMPORTANT NOTICE

For anyone still doubting that you can encounter mountains in this game... Rest assured you can! My first planet had larger mountains than any stream or screenshot that I saw.

Yup helps you out in situations. I had an incident where I pissed off one of the races lol

I'm about 6 hours in.

So far I've upgraded to a new ship twice, added three new inventory slots to my suit, upgraded my multi-tool four times - one of which I bought from a totally-not-shady alien dude selling totally-not-shady tech out of dufflebag at the trading post, learned over 50 words in two different alien languages, discovered all but one of the planet's animals plus another 20-something plants, broke into multiple 'facilities' and stole their tech - which I now have like 25 new technologies unlocked...

... and I haven't left my freakin' starting planet. This god damn game is going to ruin my life.

And to talk about how wildly different experiences can be - I started on a giant, tropical planet full of plants, animals and minerals. My wife, on the other hand, started on a small, desolate wasteland with super-high radiation, almost no plants, no animals, minimal resources and the most aggressive and angry Sentinels I've seen yet. I've been frolicking through alien plains while she's in a constant fight to simply survive.

It's hilarious.

As I mentioned before, I started on an ice planet with a little hostile life. Once I finally got off-world, then next planet/moon was teaming with life and much warmer, not hostile at all.

Also, in 6 hours we've both had wildly different experiences. I've explored two solar systems and upgraded my multi-tool a few times, got a couple of suit upgrades, but that's about it. Barely learned 5 words and unlocked about a dozen new techs.

I can see some common items between systems that we all must experience for story purposes, and yep the art style and procedural generation can seem a bit repetitive - so I understand what the nay-say'ers are getting at - but man what Hello Games have achieved is a work of programming genius and no one should deny them of that.

I fricken love this game and the potential for a huge variety of stories to be told her, on youtube, reddit, pretty much all over the web, as each player progresses and experiences something that truly is unique to them.

I did, but it auto-completes the quest and you're left without the recipe to craft Antimatter...

I'm confused.

The recipe comes from an abandoned building on a planet after you've completed your first warp. There's really no way to not get that recipe because you need it to travel beyond that system.

You definitely didn't miss it. If you haven't completed your first jump, you're not ready for the recipe.

Any idea why I have a message in the bottom right that wont go away stating:

Jetpack Depleted
Wait for Jetpack to Recharge

Its god damn annoying, my Jetpack is fully charged.

I personally find what looks fun and what is fun isn't always a 1:1 proposition.
Typically, this is true, but I found that with this game, some extended stream viewing was an accurate representation. They give a pretty good idea of what to expect, which is a big mystery to some with this game.

No back touch is a positive. Front can be ok if it isn't for quick reflex or commonly used actions.
