Sooo...at what point am I supposed to just stop exploring and abandon the initial star system? I feel like I'm finding way too much stuff, but I'm still missing two planets!

I have 800k units, upgraded my suit 6 times, discovered 50+ words and I'm finding duplicates of blueprints quite frequently. Help, I can't stop

Haha, its an OCD person's nightmare. I feel you, you'll just have to let it go.

I want to go back to my starting system. Haha

The other thread is moving way too quickly to get any answers. People are claiming the 18 quintillion planets is bull shit and that's only the number of possible planets instead odd the number of actual planets. However, it seems they are only considering the initial galaxy we all share?

So is there only 1 galaxy with not that many planets, or multiple galaxies with 18 quintillion total planets, or something else?

Glad I bought the game through PSN and didn't redeem any of the preorder codes instead of waiting for my Amazon copy. I would have probably ended up in the same boat with the broken ship.

How can you say this when most of the worlds are so similar? At least in my case.

I think a lot of the worlds in a given area will be similar, but people have got starting planets with a strong lack of needed resources, or harsher environments that make it more difficult to start with.

Don't redeem the ship until after you complete the tutorial to get the hyperdrive schematics.

Is this easily done in Steam? Think I might be better off just waiting until it's officially out and making sure that I don't get it. I honestly don'e want it. I don't want any shortcuts at the start of the game.

Only reason I want to pre-order is so I can preload the game.

yeep.. my first planet is pretty much the same!... I don't want to leaaave.. :)

multiple galaxies. 18quintillion is all total planets across all galaxies

The 18 quintillion is the total number. It's divided into galaxies of unknown dimensions of which everyone starts in the first.

Anyone find any scan mods for their ship yet? It's frustrating that I can scan from it, but not see anything. Makes seeing things that only appear while scanning hard to fly over to.

I also redeemed preorder ship before building hyper drive and got the blueprint quest in my 2nd system

This morning I happened across a planet loaded with emeril and a space station able to purchase that emeril. This is the same system that has been crawling with pirates so loading my entire ship up and making it the entire way across the system to the station presented a challenge. The entire time I was mining all I could think of is as soon as I enter space the are going to cargo scan me and attack

I load up my slightly over 2 million units worth of emeril, every slot in my suit and ship sans the plutonium and thsnium needed to recharge my shields and pulse drive, not the best exit point on the planet so I can immediately pulse once I'm out of atmo and beat the pirates to the station. Pull the trigger for my launch thrusters and....

The launch glitch that pushes you hurling widely into space happens leaving me disoriented and even further from the station. Pulse thrusters engaged I make a run for it and don't see a pirate until I get fairly close to the station. Now 2 million richer

This is the worst game also if you're OCD or like collecting everything like me. A fucking nightmare at that lol. I desperately need more suit upgrades & a bigger cargo ship possibly. Still on first system & only visited 2 planets & the space station.

Whether or not it was due to Amazon's incompetence, I got my pre-order ship code after I got the hyperdrive blueprints. Is it that much better than the base ship? Or should I just truck along until I find a more substantial upgrade?

Yeah just read the other user's comment on how he renames it with a description to help other if they come by. That's a grea idea.

Even if there's 100,000,000 planets thats enough.

Halle-fucking-lujah! Dodged a bullet so far it seems.
I certainly think this is the worst preorder "bonus" in gaming history. I tried everything possible to not accept the ship after redeeming it, since I didn't want it in the first place... even before I knew anything about a bug, I just didn't want it. You have to accept it. Then doing so screws your ability to progress!

This is a good lesson for developers of all kinds. I expected bugs and would've even been able to stomach a progress-resetting bug that was just an issue with some of the intended progression. But to have it tied to a preorder bonus which I only acquired out of the desire to play the game as early as possible... and thus lose 8 hours of progress... hoo boy.

When you crash land on a planet, IE find a crashed ship and switch but then realize you don't have the resources to truly fix it up and the planet has shit ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ , but then you start trekking out and find weird, cool alien shit that fucks with your mind involving mechanical spiders...

I think I am doing something wrong with units. Only have 600k or so and in third system.

Any tips?

I had about that much in my 4th system. I have less than that now that I'm in my 8th system. I bought a ship last night. It looks like a cross between a bird and a TIE fighter.

Apparently you can brute force through. Not sure how though. Reddit had some suggestions. I was only 30 minutes in so I just reset.

Can you grab the blueprint if you've switched to the preorder ship but you go back to your starting planet? I'm only one planet over and can easily fly back.

Got the game today, played for a few hours.

I think I'll get rid of the game ASAP. The exploration is tedious and inhibited by confusing menus and too much resource gathering.

I thought I'd be going wherever I wanted to without too much trouble and finding cooler stuff on planets. Giant snakes and the like.

You should push on. I made this "mistake" - it's not really a mistake obviously - and then realized that you'll find all the same shit on the next planet.

I dunno, I'm starting to feel like the way to play is to scope out a new planet for a bit, and then keep it moving.

Definitely how i play, fuck hanging around that shit will kill this game for me as the smoke and mirrors wont hold up playing it like that

It took a while, but I was finally able to hyperjump to a new system. Gathering the necessary resources, blueprints, components, and fuel to make the jump was an achievement in itself.

Now that I have better equipment my plan is to return to my starting planet, Anubis, to complete my exploration and upload my discoveries. So far it has had the greatest variety of plant and animal life of the few planets/moons I've visited.

But now, I'm stuck at work.

Just go man. Not sure why people have this need to 100% everything right away.

How I play?

1. Go to planet
2. Planet looks like shit? Leave
2b. Planet has some sort of toxic or harmful weather effect? Leave
3. Planet looks cool? Chill for a bit, upgrade some stuff, next star system.

There are 18 quintillion planets. I'm not gonna burn out on this game spending 10 hours on a planet that looks like ass, id barren, and is constantly killing me.

You don't miss anything when you leave a planet. All that shit is generated on the fly. None of it exists till you see it. It'll just spawn again for you on another planet.

i'd say the biggest crit for the game is how apparent the proceeduralness is. i dont like that at every outpost a new one pops up always 2 minutes away. seems a little too predictable. great base game so far, cant wait to see everything that gets added. you know HG has tons of ideas they couldnt implement for day one. hoping this becomes the RL of space-exploration games in terms of support.

theres nothing like jet packing over a crevice and just making it to the other side safely.

definitely something people should keep in mind - as this is my mentality too. jsut becasue you dont collect a word on one planet doesnt mean youll never have a chance to get that word again...

Lol, that's way too complicated.

I just call them 'Quiet Cold Forest' or 'Swampy Jungle'.

It's mainly to help me remember them when I'm looking at my discoveries.
I like being descriptive in the spirit of the moment.

"Hey I landed here too."
"Oh God it Burns." (Acid rain.)
"Eat Them Before They Eat You" (Planet full of Carnivore jerkfaces.)
"Jerkface" (Anything that attacks me.)

So I'm convinced at this point that the Sents have different aggro levels depending on what planet you are on, in addition to their numbers. Some don't give a shit that you mine, some give a little shit (by doing that scanning thing, which is I assume a warning), and some give a hefty shit.

It's a true pain in the ass to find that out by trial and error. Luckily you can dodge them by sitting in your ship or going in a structure (which makes no sense to me, but whatever), but it's annoying if you aren't near those areas.

And apparently, if you do happen to get one of those more aggressive Sents, have fun getting jumped for picking flowers. I took a valuable bulb from plant, and I instantly got shot up to three stars. Whether it was a glitch or because of the plant itself, I dunno, but if it's the latter, that's stupid - you'd have no idea until you collected it.

I feel like certain things in NMS are great but just aren't executed well when put into practice.

There's no point sticking around on dangerous planets. I mean, unless you're convinced there is something of particular value there. Just 'nope' and leave.

I started the game, chose follow Atlas, looked in the menu and redeemed ship.
Went exploring the planet, fixed the ship in the process, then decided to lift off.
Flew to a space station, had a chat with the guy, don't really remember what about.
Flew out, picked a random planet, landed at the beacon, scan told me to find an alien signal.
Found an alien in a small station, he gave me hyperdrive blueprint.

Thank you for taking the time to explain it. So weird that the only thing I did different was pick free roam.

I would be so damn heated if I had to restart after 8+ hours of progress. Sucks so many people got fucked over because of this damn ship. :(

I'm still on my first system too, third planet. 31+ slots in my suit, spent all my money getting that.

Whether or not it was due to Amazon's incompetence, I got my pre-order ship code after I got the hyperdrive blueprints. Is it that much better than the base ship? Or should I just truck along until I find a more substantial upgrade?

I waited to switch to the pre-order ship after making my first hyperjump, to avoid the confusion with mission progress. It had several more storage slots and looks better than the base ship, so I made sure to transfer the inventory over before switching.

I mined some titanium crystal and they sent an army after me. I swear there weren't that many when I got there. Luckily they don't seem to share information with other Sents on the planet, once you destroy them all the others give no shit about you.

Heh, Jim Sterling posted the first and currently only review, a 50, and now his site is down.

/popcorn

Yeah, he definitely deserves to get doxxed for having an opinion.

The grenade powerup has definitely helped in taking care of them, but sometimes one little fucker will be floating a bit too far too reach and call for another wave before I get to him. Ugh.

The procedural generation screwed me over once so far. I was mining and the map failed to form under the spot I was mining, so I fell through as if I was in water and couldn't get out. The game immediately locked up my system after that and thankfully so or else I wouldn't have gone to bed last night.

I have few criticisms so far but I really do wish we had manual control in atmospheric flight. Partly so that we can actually crash and have to repair on the surface.

I also sorta wish that if you died very close to a planet that you'd need to find your ship again as it has crashed.

The only reason I kept the pre-order ship is because I loved the cockpit.
I had already traded in my base ship once for a crashed ship before I even reached pre-order status. I'll be looking to upgrade soon now that I found some blueprints and the cost of warp cells decreased dramatically because of that. Sitting on ~1m coins. Have somewhere around 250k-500k already invested in my suit.

Begun my new save. My new starting planet is much less threatening than my first, lol. It's hot, but less of a hellscape than that radioactive rock.

Gonna walk my dog and then hunker down, speed through the tutorial quests, redeem the stupid alpha vector again, and then get back on track. Please, fix this so that nobody else has to restart for such nonsense. Hear us Sean!

Forgot, I did find a completely dead planet last night, it was just lifeless rock and one trading post.
