Question for ya'll do you randomly get connected/disconnected to HG servers?
I've had issues with my home net so not sure if that is happening to everyone.

I am just going with the cosmic winds. I have a feeling about a system then I go there. I plan on playing this game for a long time, the center can wait. I was even tempted to go as far from the center as possible...

Yeah I'm with you! It's a wonderful feeling just picking any star to warp too, but sometimes I feel like I'm not making any "story" progress if you get me.
But it doesn't matter because I'm still collecting resources, upgrading suit/multi tool/ship so I feel like I'm getting meaningful things done.

I'm gonna reach the centre in like 3+ months though lol

My first planet was cold, every planet since has had acid rain :(

My first planet was total desert but the third star system I visited had mad acid rain, radioactive atmosphere and these insanely aggressive praying mantis.
Of course I named the planet Acid Mantis Land.

Still in the 3rd system. Found a planet with literally mountains of emeril. Made 3.4 mil so far. Also got a mask for underwater breathing!

Oh and most importantly, a recipe for an upgraded hyper drive! Still don't have the og hyper drive recipe.

I haven't found a single crashed ship to trade up from my shitty starter ship. I'm on the third solar system

I found a few, but didn't want the hassle of repairing all the parts. You can buy new ones at space stations instead. Go talk to other traders when they land and you can offer to buy their ships =)

The fact there are never crystal resources under water is really damn disappointing.

There is almost no point to using the underwater oxygen mask. So many ocean planets with zero reason to explore beyond sight seeing. There should have been rarer elements deeper underwater

I mean, it depends what your playstyle is I guess? As an ecologist irl, my focus in this game is earning through discovering and uploading fauna and flora. There's a heck of a lot to scan underwater.

Edit: Eugh double post, sorry about that.

Not really.

There have been zero deep water animals in my experience. Anything further down can also be found around the surface. Again, I don't see the purpose of the underwater mask.

How do I get ahead with money , I am still early on but find in spending all my money on backpack slots or buying materials for crafting , see all these awesome 2.5 million ships I can never afford lol

I'm hoping once I've crafted or the basic components money will become a lot easier . Still on my starter ship

Damn, I've spent a really long time in this system, after about 15 warps and 2 black holes. After being defeated by pirates I've been scouring the system for Iridium and Copper to fix my upgraded Hyper Drive (so I can warp 4 - 5 sectors at a time). Iridium is most commonly found in bigger meteorites for me, however the majority of it is Nickel. I'm struggling to find any Copper at all, any hot tips?

I've heard it can be found in asteroids at lower orbits (haven't had a chance to test this myself yet but I am in need of copper)

Common materials seem to be the hardest to get since noone sells them :(

For me the only copper I've been able to find are on barren planets. They look like round floating spheres.

Right!? It's kind of crazy that they can't be bought. Plus asteroids can't be scanned, so I'm spending a lot of time in low orbit just so I can easily escape pirates should they show up.

As soon as I get this Hyper Drive repaired I'm mainlining about 6 - 7 Atlas interfaces.

Also -- any recommendations for ship combat, are the blasters or beams preferred? or both? Is one better for mining?

One of my planets was hammered by torrential rain constantly, and would have a storm every few minutes. It'd crash my PS4 if I spent too long there, so I didn't hang about long

Storms, yes. Which are basically just heavy rain with bad visibility and more suit damage. No lightning, no tornadoes, nothing like what you quoted.

Ah ok, well hopefully that's something that can be added later.

Can you imagine storms like the ones in Mad Max :o

To infinity and beyond!

Now I just need to get through the work day, just got in. Only 8 and a half hours to go :******(

I made 3.4 million bucks in 2 hours by doing this...
Randomly found a rare resource filled planet (Gravitino Balls) and flew around till I found a trade station.
I cleared out my entire inventory and ran around (later flew around) collecting every ball I could find before almost getting killed (when I picked up a ball these sentinel tank things came after me) flew back to the station and sold me all. Just keep doing this over and over till you get bored.

I'm not sure how I did this but I made the trade station visible on my hud so no matter where I was I could get back to it.
The rare items are marked with a green diamond shaped icon with an exclamation point I the middle.

Want the storms and wildlife get crazy the closer to the center.
I'm talking about beyond the first galaxy.

Yesterday I came across some pirates attacking a larger ship. I'm still in my starter ship but decided to try and stop them. There were about 5, and I was able to fight them 1 at a time, killing each one and occasionally repairing my shields. I was just about to kill the last one when I was destroyed by the ship I was trying to defend, I must have hit it with a stray bullet

Space combat wasn't bad. I'd heard bad things about it but it seemed functional enough. Only slightly strange thing is that it felt like I wasn't moving during the dogfighting, just turning on the spot, I guess that just because there are no nearby objects providing reference but it definitely felt odd.

Woah... so the pre-load for the game is only 2.8Gb for steam today :o

That's significantly less than what I was anticipating....

To clarify to those asking on this page:

If you want to avoid recipe/fuel 'bugs'

1. Do not redeem the preorder ship until you have successfully created a hyperdrive and also crafted warp cells for it. You can either find the recipe for the ingredients or purchase them

i must have been lucky or maybe you just gotta explore like mad for it to end up working....
but i fixed my lego ship the first one then on the next planet got my dlc ship so the reminder would go away... i still got the recipe for the hyperdrive like 4 planets in from an alien... musta been lucky

question... so I'm trying to get the atlas blueprint by following the path... it says i need to upgrade by hyperdrive to get there... does that mean the drive itself or does it mean i need to add more warp cells?

Well the reason it's not Mad Max storms on console might be its limitations with everything else going on. Here's hoping they're massive on PC :)

Shes, my shift is soon over so I'm heading out for the movies to catch SS before I get playing. Workday have been going incredibly fast listening to Halestorm/Flyleaf which is great :)

Can't wait to start messing around with it. And here's hoping we get NMS ready drivers with SLI support!

If it says upgrade you need to upgrade the drive. If you just need fuel it'll say so.

Do you think the PC audience will receive this more positively? Due to more familiarity with the genre through games like Elite, Evochron Legacy, more freeform/zen-paced space games like Rymdresa and Mirrormoon, etc.

Yes, I think you hit the nail on the head here; although my wife loves NMS and has convinced her FarmVille and Hayday friends to give it a buy. Which makes perfect sense. FarmVille and Hayday is all about timers and grinding for profit so she sees this as a natural evolutionary jump with those mechanics into a universal scale. I'll also mention that she loved Animal Crossing. She likes games with busy work that are free form, it's not monotonous for her but rythmicaly relaxing. She also loves Sci-Fi so it's a win.

(at work atm)

why what's going on?

edit: ah game crashing.

He seems to be super tired in general while being pissed at NMS that keeps crashing on him. Review thread is getting a lot mileage from his stream atm, "See, I told you guys! Game sucks!". Hoping for brutal and game shredding review from Joe.

This is the console version right?

Yeah, afaik no one has access to PC version.
Figures. Not sure why he is playing that today when he can hop on the PC soon.

But I don't get the review threads where people fight if a game is good or not.

Either you like it or you don't, not sure why you need verification from others and loudly display your opinion on the matter like that. I have yet to venture into the review thread, the no MP have quite enough yelling at each other over a issue that we don't have enough information on atm.

*high five*

Very curious to read the digital foundry article on NMS PS4 vs PC, should be an interesting read.

Enjoy SS, saw it last weekend, and even though most people hated it and it got shit reviews, I enjoyed it for what it was.

Few last pages of review thread is some posters being happy and gloating about how they were right, how NMS is turd and deserves to get shredded even more. I so hope devs aren't reading threads like that, people being happy that years of dev work is getting shit on hard.

So

I am a player who, if given a game that was made with a lot of heart and care and has a lot of potential/ambition (so long as the game isn't utterly broken and frustrating), I can absolutely appreciate it. I've been kind of on the fence after seeing that it has been getting mixed reception. I am kind of leaning towards purchasing it (helped by the Amazon 20% discount), but I wanted to hear some NeoGAF impressions.

Is the crafting/combat disruptive towards exploration? How much combat can I expect? How is the variety (setting, creatures, atmosphere, etc.)?

Wow...

I learned all of the Korvax language.

Loving the game. Wanted to share some things I just realized today.

  • resources stack to a maximum of 250 per slot in exosuit inventory, 500 per slot in starship inventory
  • The "pin formula" option for crafting keeps track of what and how many resources are needed to complete it.
  • be careful fighting pirates close to a space station. Managed to kill the pirates, but a stray shot had angered the space station and I was decimated.
  • Recharging your deflector shield mid combat is possible and has saved me many times

Happy exploring.

Great tips.

How do you pin a formula?
