I have yet to discover what that path is or where it starts despite passing by hundreds of doors and boxes that require atlas passes. Makes it quite frustrating.

But that's the point. You're not supposed to have everything available to you, hence multiple paths.

The name AtlasPass makes it obvious it's linked to the Atlas, so I never once googled it.

I just found a Space Anomaly...

IT'S NO MOON

I enter it...

I had a high level of Alien Encounter. I could trigger the event.

Got rewarded with... Atlas Pass v1 Blueprint !

FINALY YES !

Those doors are only accessible if you follow a certain path. Imagine that?
If my game's not patched, ie no paths available... then is it just impossible to get in those things?

I don't really mind either way, just curious. From what I heard, a lot of the path stuff was supposed to eventually become obtainable regardless.

What path is the best path for this gaming: trying to get to the center or finding Atlas?

I thought searching for Atlas would also get me to the center but it seems as if I'm traveling further away.

I warped to a new system, land on the planet with the Atlas beacon, and can't stay outside for more than 10 seconds because of an extreme ice storm :x

Same. I'm not too frustrated, more curious, but there are a lot of boxes and doors that need an Atlas pass (and varying levels too) and thus far I've not seen a thing about them. Maybe its because I chose free roam right at the start. Dunno. I'm hoping it will become clear in time.

After a good few hours of playtime I now feel quite confident saying this game, for me, lives up to the hype. I could (and probably will) lose myself for days, weeks and months on end with this one.

For now, I'm going to try to
follow Atlas
and stick to the pre-defined path, but once I get better equipment and upgrades I don't know if I'll be able to stop myself just blasting off in a random direction.

I'm sorting through my SF Masterworks book collection, thinking about which authors and titles get a planet or system named after them.

I'm geeking out and it feels awesome.

I will say though, I can totally see this game being a whole lot of WTF?! for a lot of people.

What's the hottest temperature you mavericks have seen? Reporting a balmy 294°c over here!

Toasty! Everwhere I've been has been fairly pleasant weatherwise. Aside from the warming radiation of my starting planet, the other planets in that system were benign enough that I didn't need my hazard protection suit on. temperatures barely out of the 20s

Second system though, first planet. Poisonous with toxic acid rain, temperature somewhere in the 60s I think.

So I need some iridium to make a bolt caster. Any tips to what I'm looking for to harvest?

In addition to what others said: Iridium also spawns as big metal 'loops' coming half our of the ground on various planets. Look for brown/copperish semi-loops sticking out.

I don't know if I'll be able to stop myself just blasting off in a random direction.

When the time came to leave my first system with my brand new hyperdrive I looked at the little yellow line to the next system......hit L1 and headed off into space instead. I'll follow the story another time, for now I must roam free, like the Stegosaurus thing with the comically tiny insect style head I saw on a moon.

I went with the Atlas and still don't have a pass.

What the... what? Is that a vape pen in the middle of the desk? Tisk.

From how I think levels work for the different statistical categories, I can see that I'm essentially at zero for survival and zoology. For the first I assume that means specific upgrades and a lot of wandering around and suffering on hostile worlds. The later? I have noooo idea how to go about trying to complete it for any single planet, to say nothing of many. Best I've managed is 6-7/10 and I can't tag any flying creatures.

A really important thing the game doesn't tell you is that near and distant creatures get flagged up with a little white dot if you hold L2 for the scanner and pan around.

You'll see white dots pulsating every couple of seconds. Travel towards them, and eventually the dot will either go red (unscanned race/species) or green (already scanned race/species).

It's a bit temperamental though so sometimes white dots will disappear at random or won't appear at all. I often find if you can't find anything just get in your ship and travel a few miles then set down again. They tend to focus around key areas and act as packs.

Try to shot the damn things or get on higher Terrain

Holy fuck, shooting them is such an obvious solution (for flying creatures you can't tag).

Especially with your mining laser that basically won't miss.

So I got the schematic for the Warp Reactor last night and my girlfriend was away for the evening, so I thought, 'fuck it, I'm not shutting down until I find Copper and Iridium to build the thing'.

Three star systems and 8 planets later, at 2.15am I set my controller down with all the Copper I needed but not a fucking jot of iridium.

In to work at 9am too... Can't wait to finish up early and nail that stuff. I'm almost at a black hole.

Welcome to the Universe of Fools!

So has anyone seen a planet that looks like this yet?

Watching a lot of streams and so far everything looks really flat and empty.

Yes. They are rare but you get them.

Again, the experience you get with this game comes down to chance a lot of the time. Probably 1 in 15 planets is like that from my experience. It's fucking brilliant when you find them though. So good to explore.

Yesterday I found a trippy planet covered in floating islands and giant, toxic mushrooms, and it was insanely hilly and foggy and constantly dropping acid rain and toxic storms.

It was awesome.

I've been on a couple planets that are that lush and colorful with plant life.

The planets I've been on that have lots of creatures just roaming around in packs have been the more barren looking ones.

Looking forward to finding one that has both.

I don't get the galactic map.I thought the game was MASSIVE? Why can I only warp to planets connected with the yellow line?

1. Every single one of the stars you see on the map is a legitimate star system with planets around it, and every one of those planets is mapped and you can go to it. The game IS massive.

2. Press R1 to swap to 'Exploration mode' on the galactic map. Then you can jump to whatever system you can reach.

3. You get tech that lets you warp far greater distances, multiple star systems at once, later on.

I was so tempted to do what you did. The Stars My Destination. It's a little boy's dream come true.

Sometimes it looks beautiful though.

That's a beautiful ship.

Big complaint of the game is the lack of a waypoint system. Found massive blocks of mineral (emridiun or something) anyway mined what I could have ran out of space so went to the orbiting space station. Dashed out and went back for more... I couldn't find it flying around the planet. A simple waypoint marker you could use would have been great. I hope it makes an update soon

I feel like ships should have a "trade-in" value when you buy a new one. Without it, continuing to buy exosuit space is the better bang for the buck. I don't want to drop 4 million for an 8 space advantage over my previous ship when 8 exosuit spaces is another 2-2.5 million.
Doesn't the spaces in the space ship count for double the room in the exosuit?

Don't have a picture, but I was worried about flat terrain after my first couple planets and moon, but the third planet a garden world I hit had lots of interesting slopes and curviture with an over abundance of flora and fauna. Plus, while having a single biome, it did vary a bit between different heights on the planet.

Mountainous regions and valley shorelines has some slight variance. I'm overall impressed with the procedural tech used here. If they keep modestly fine tuning the tech with improvements like they did in the last update things can only get better.

Do it man. Cast off the shackles. Be free. I'm basically my 10 year old self playing this game, I'm going wherever I want, the novelty of going wherever I want, with no idea what manner of madness I might encounter. And no amount of horrifying cut-n-shut beasts will stop me.

Hey, what the hell happened to legacyzero?

Edit: aha, could have been complaining about the 'audio design' thread. He challenged it asking why it even exists.

I get the feeling that a lot of things will be added to this game through updates. At least I hope they will.

The possibilities are endless.

I think a lot of people are failing to realize that planets like the one in the screen you quoted are going to be more rare than you might think. That type of wow moment in exploration is what drives you to go further.

With 18 Quintilian planets, you could theoretically watch streams of no mans sky, every second, of every hour, for the rest of your life, hell, for the next 10 billion years, and never ever see a planet with anything of note on it.

People are underestimating, and under appreciating just how large this game is.
As a result, No Man's Sky will feature 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 worlds. That's 18 quintillion, if you were counting. Visiting each at the blistering rate of one per second would take five billion years (with no toilet breaks) and quite a lot of rocket fuel. You would also need to secure alternate accommodation and power sources because our Sun plans on running out of its own fuel in around 4.6 billion years.

Yeah, the game is not perfect, and it sure as hell will get repetitive at times, but the fact that such a thing is even possible, only 30 odd years after pong, and was created by 12 people, is INSANE.
