Is there a way to set waypoints on a planet? I found a small outpost with three Gek asking for resources I don't have at the moment, but if I go searching for them I probably won't find that outpost again.
Scan it with your scanner and it sets a little white dot as a marker.

Is there even a point to stay in a system longer than just going in to one or two outposts in a planet, mining what you need and get the fuck out to the next system ?

It's all I've been doing for the past 3-4 hours and seems pretty routine.

- Go to a planet (most of the time it's either barren or hazardous)
- Scan, go to a relic and learn a word
- Go to an outpost and speak to the alien
- Give him something so that he could fart
- Go to another outpost and press a button
- Farm some materials to craft warp cell
- Get out of the system

Atlas path is the same as the path to the centre of universe I believe. I haven't got any of the Atlas things though, I saw that the space stations sell them for a few million.

What am I doing wrong here?

For fuck's sake! How the hell do you defend against 6 ships attacking you? I can't go anywhere anymore. My problem appears to be that I'm carrying
6 atlas stones
.

I've died about 4 times in the last hour and it's really stopping my progress.

I just posted this to reddit, and would like some opinions here, too.

I've been playing on PS4 for about 12 hours now, and I'm really enjoying the game on some levels. The feeling of flying down onto a planet, hopping out of the ship, and taking that first look around hasn't gotten stale yet, and I don't see it happening any time soon.

That said, my biggest complaint (and I think a lot of people's) is that the universe doesn't feel very 'alive'. Now, since it's such a vast universe, that might be the entire point. If that's the case, though, why are there several aliens on each planet, all chilling in their buildings? I don't have a problem with this, but I have few ideas to make it all feel a little more lively:

  • Make the aliens hanging out in the buildings move around a bit. Nothing huge, just have them look at the plants around the room, or go outside and look at the other buildings on the site if there are any. Make it feel like a dude actually lives there.
  • Have AI ships fly around planets and randomly land and mine some stuff, or just look around. All of the aliens that you can buy items off of have some sort of mineral in their inventories, so they got them somehow. It doesn't have to be every planet, but I think planets with a trading outpost could benefit from something like this, since those places already have ships landing there. I'm not sure if something like this is possible, but I think it would be cool on livelier planets. It would also make the emptier planets feel more isolated.
  • Give the various buildings on planets varied architecture based on the type of alien that lives there. There only needs to be one type per race, even that would make it a little more exciting, I think. (I got this idea from this reddit thread where the user there has some excellent ideas.

And then to keep the gameplay loop fresh:

Implement a mini quest system similar to Skyim's 'radiant' quests. I know a lot of people found them boring, but for a game like NMS it would be nice, just so that we have a clear objective other than the huge task of getting to the center. I think I would really enjoy if I went to an outpost and the Gek inside gave me his tech or whatever like normal, and then gave me a secondary task of getting him a Gek charm, which he would pay me a bit above the going rate for. Or if an alien at a space station bar (which should be populated by at least a few aliens some of the time) gives me a stack of 500 platinum that he needs transported to a trading outpost on a planet a few systems over, all for a big reward and the risk of ships attacking me for my cargo.

There could also be some sort of bulletin board posted at space stations or trading outposts on planets. There's an unlimited amount of types of these quests. Give 5 neutrino modules to a Vy'keen warrior as proof of your combat prowess in exchange for a multitool with a sweet boltcaster with tons of upgrades. Scan all of the animal species on a nearby moon for a Korvax to receive an exosuit tech. Give me mundane tasks when I have low standing with the race, and give me more complicated and difficult ones as our relationship improves.

To end, my overall point is that this game doesn't need a huge questline or lengthy side quests. But it could use little flavor quests to help motivate players and make them feel like just another traveler in this huge universe filled with untold amounts of intelligent life. You aren't alone in the universe, and the game shouldn't pretend that you are.

Agreed on all points. And I've played around 30 hours. The quest system would be absolutely ideal.

Is this sequence for everyone? (first planet, after 1st warp).

You have to go to a facility where you learn about crafting Warp Cells.

The door is locked so you need to shoot open the door.

The Sentiels get pissed and come after you :)

Happen to anyone else?

Thanks. I really want to love the game, and I almost do. I think something like that would really keep me coming back, even if it doesn't really change much from a gameplay perspective. One thing I haven't though of, though, is how to make a system like that work when you don't necessarily know the language of the quest giver. Maybe quests could be uploaded to some sort of Atlas terminal that translates them for you?

Happens to everyone. You can either destroy the sentinels or keep blasting at the door until you can get inside. Once they can't see you, they'll deactivate after a certain amount of time (10-15 seconds or so, it's pretty quick). I did die to them once, but my current multi-tool makes much shorter work of the doors now.

Ditch all photon cannon upgrades and just use mining laser(phase beam), it's instant and always hits. Put in every upgrade you can. Pulse fire it like twice a second instead of holding the button. Keep iron on hand to replenish shields. You will slaghter at least one ship every pass and be unkillable. The projectile weapons suck ass because of how tough it is to aim such a slow moving weapon.

Some minor problems in getting buildings to sit right, I guess when the building is placed before it fully generates the terrain:

Cheers, I assumed it was a common event.

My 2nd system has 6 planets, first one a sucky rock and ocean affair. So much underwater stuff.

Shit I just thought, the game needs Rovers and Underwater vessels!

Good point, good solution. I'm in the same boat. first 20 hours I loved the game, and I really enjoy dropping into a planet and exploring for a bit. But it does have a lot of problems. I'm going to shoot to the centre I think now and "finish" it. And then leave it along for a few months and come back once they implement a few more improvements :)

Found a monolith with a great name today...

On an unrelated note, finding the last species on a planet is taking a toll. It's all I need to do and can move on after, but I'm struggling to find it.

can you find new suits? or is the only way to find pods and upgrade?

You continuously upgrade your one suit until it maxes out.

Each Pod has ever increasing costs beyond the first free on, which increases by 10k each time.

I currently have a 34 Slot Exo-Suit which the 35 slot upgrade will cost me 230K.

I believe the max is 48 slots so I'm not quite there yet.

It's easy to find Pods if you keep searching for Shelters by using Bypass Chips at those Beacons that let you scan the planet. Best thing to do is like make 5 or 6 Bypass Chips and scan for Shelters over and over until you find enough Upgrade Pods to get your storage to the point where you are currently satisfied.

Is this happening to anyone else? I found an alien in a shelter and outside there are some trees and a cave, and there's so far more than 50 !!! Vortex cubes on ground. I went from zero units to over a million in like 15 minutes because there's a store front in the alien's house :lol feels a bit game breaking to be collecting these. Or I am not supposed to sell them? :/

why doesn't the Ps4 box say console exclusive like sf5?

is this only a timed exclusive?
Apparently when asked about a possible XB1 version in an interview yesterday Sean said he "wasn't sure" what he could say and that he had to be "very specific" with words, and then a Sony rep interrupted and moved the interview onwards.

So I have a feeling it'll come eventually.

Sell them. Why do you care that the alien is a lazy ass that cannot be bothered to walk to the cave?

I'm getting it about 3x per hour PS4. About 33% of the time I go into hyperspace.
I'm reading this more the past day or two. Is the crashing during hyper drive new to people?

If so, it is a good sign there may be matchmaking happening and they are trying to fix it from the server end.

Damn, I'm already doing all of this :(

oh I see. yeah, i never really doubted this game coming to xbone

I just got killed on a planet after harvesting about 750,000 units worth of materials, is it lost or can I find my grave like I can in space?

Edit: Nevermind, my grave has appeared on my compass.

Procedural generation sometimes breaks things. Spend some time there and farm on that planet. It will be full of cubes.

this game feels like if you took a space game designed by ubisoft and then gutted out whatever depth or mechanical complexity there was

just the thinnest, most simplistic representations of the gameplay mechanics that are from the genres it's trying to evoke

Im really enjoying this game, i wish it would stop crashing on me.

Last night i was about to stop and found a ship with 5 more slots and an extended hyperdrive - yes - i bought and it crashed shortly after losing my new ship forever. And better warp capibility with it.

Today im playing ten whole minutes before it crashes again.

Im getting a crash per hour or so now. Very frustrating.

Two systems, 6 planets in a row with almost nothing on them. No animals, same plants with different names. After 15 hours, I am starting to feel the motivation go away.

I want to find a really cool planet. I had maybe 1 or 2 since the beginning. Come on!!!

On a related money-earning note, for the first time I've found a standalone trading terminal on a planet in the middle of nowhere.
On the map it shows as "terminal". That has made it so much easier to trade in a sea of ouposts where I would get lost between a myriad of icons.

Now I just load up on gold (my planet's most abundant and expensive element) both on the suit and in the ship, fly a minute there, sell, then fly back to the next set of outposts.

I don't know how frequent those terminals are, but this is the first and only one I've seen, and with its own icon.

I know it's been asked, but I found all the species and I'm at 100% but I didn't get the 200k credits for it. Does the server have to be online for it to work? Or is it just some kind of bug?

This is exactly me right now. My first 6-8 hours I managed to find 2 amazing looking planets full of grass and trees. and 30 hours in I haven't found one quite like them since. Really annoying me now.

Did you press that button? The one that says 100% for 200K.

Had the same experience. Made almost 10 million units in an hour :) bought a nice new ship. You may want to check if you got any ship or multi tool updates that require vortex cubes to make - I had a few.

More shields on your ship, and stronger attacks I'm guessing. Most I've ever gotten is three at once.

Not really sure though.

Came across an already discovered star system this afternoon! Exciting stuff, oh he's named everything too wow! Oh what's this...the system is called...Anus...and this first planet is called...Cum Guzzler...oh that's right, people.
