Oh yeah, forgot to mention. If you do have the phase beam, press Triangle while flying to switch from the Photon Cannon to the Phase Beam. Like switching firing modes on your multi-tool.

Okay, thank you. Definitely makes sense. Although i don't recall the game ever explaining this to me. Hopefully i'll be winning some dogfights soon!

With version 1.00 the game started you out 40k light years from the core. With patch 1.03 this was changed to ~180k light years.

It took me 150 black holes to reach the center. But it's not rewarding anyway so don't even bother and just look it up on Youtube.

Ahhh i see. They "added game length" by placing us further out lol. 150 black holes!?!? holy shit! Added bummer that all i'm hearing is negative opinions regarding the "end" of the game. I was so excited for NMS but the more i play the more it seems designed to just "waste your time" and keep you from the center as long as possible by feeding you the same things over and over. :(

After 20 hours I just discovered that you can press Y to change your mining beam to a gun ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Only if you have the Boltcaster upgrade on your multi-tool :).

I just stacked mining beam damage boosts instead, as well as the railshot adapter. I like it better for combat than the boltcaster.

Is this still a safe place to admit I'm really enjoying this game 12 hours in?

Only been to two systems (10 planets total discovered) and I still find myself itching to play.

My only real complaint is the process of scanning small flying creatures. As I'm a glutton for punishment and find myself hopelessly committed to 100% any planet with animal life, I've gotten irrationally angry trying to finalize some planets because of flying things.
Son of a bitch I hope this gets patched to make analyzing these things easier.
Yes- I have tried shooting them down and scanning their lifeless corpses. My aim is lousy. Sometimes I'll just get lucky and it'll start the scanning after 20 minutes of dicking around, staring at the sky, trying to follow their shitty, random flight patterns, but I can still not figure out what exactly I did to get it to work. :/

Otherwise, everything is dandy!

My mining beam makes for a great gun. I only need to switch when shooting down doors. Actually, grenades work well for that. I'm not sure why I keep the gun part.

This thread has always been safe.

I hate using black holes because they always fuck up a piece of your ship, god forbid if it's one of your warp upgrades and there is no goddamn iridium around.

I'm about 170,000 LY out now, but my Theta drive can take me about 1700 LY at a time, so I'll get there in about 100 jumps.

If you install the railshot adapter, the mining beam works on doors too.

Though plasma grenades with the Theta damage upgrade will still be faster.

Is the railshot adapter used to break down steel doors?

EDIT: I type too slowly.

There is a railshot upgrade for the mining beam (turns it red) that just melts sentinels like butter.

You completed the Atlas path? It's like that

I havent. That got boring as hell after the first 5 or so run-in's with them. I appreciate the "warning" i think i'm done with NMS until/if there is some major re-works and patches. I'll use it to take pretty screen shots every now and then. It's amazing for that! lol

Reached the end of the Atlus quest. F whoever designer thought that quest was a good idea.

1/10

My opnion of this game could not have fallen any lower.

Yep, but like I said in another post, some upgrades (well, actually just Ship Shields off the top of my head) are all just +1. But they all stack, so it's worthwhile to install them all.

Having deflector shields sigma, tau, and theta make me able to tank like a demon in space battles. I don't have to move. I just keep L2 held down to stay still/drift slowly and pick things off.

thanks man, i guess ill have to destroy and replace some stuff on my ship

For what it's worth having visited 30+ class G & F planets, I'm seeing new stuff pretty regularly in class E systems. From different types of grass, to new climates, a legit ocean, different Sky/space effects, more complex geography, and a higher frequency of giant creatures. Will need to explore more, but it seems like there might be something to that Reddit post.

Hey guys, Even if you find ships that have a lack of slots than your current one. Make sure to break it down for parts and minerals you can get some rare stuff from the stuff you break down.

to do it just accept the ship then break it all down. moves stuff to your suit. Then go back to your old ship move stuff and then get back into your current ship.

Wish i was doing that way sooner.

I'm probably going to jinx myself now, but outside of a day one freeze, I haven't had any issues with this game as far as crashes go. I've been playing every day since launch, and nothing.

My wife, on the other hand, has had a few crashes. Fucking weird. I think I've put in about 30+ hours so far, haven't paid much attention. I've streamed most of my adventures, but there were a few sessions I didn't bother.

I'm up to 35 suit slots now. I think I'm going to work on getting my suit to 48 first, then save up to buy a ship, then hunt for a mutltitool. It's too easy to get sidetracked trying to do everything at once, so I'll tackle one at a time. I'm still hunting for iridium though. I need to build my hyperdrive upgrade already! So far none of the six or seven planets I've been on have had it, and asteroids aren't yielding it either. I'll hunt some more when I get home tonight.

Not bored with the game yet! I'm in love. But I think I'll have to buy my wife we own copy. We've been passing the disc back and forth all weekend. XD

I played for 40 hours without a crash. But now I've crashed 15+ times. :(

The crashing, and the glitch where blueprints don't show up as craftable after you find them are the first things I personally want them to fix.

Found a planet with relaxed sentinels and ridiculous amounts of those sac venom thingies. If I needed money, this would be the place to farm it.

That's what I've been doing:
- Accept a new ship
- Break evertything apart
- Go out and enter old ship
- Transfer everything
- Accept my old ship back

Depending on the upgrades, you can get a decent stack of rare elements.

So it turns out I managed to reach the 'Galileo' milestone without ever going onto the Atlas path...I'm now able to just chain atlas stations, one after the other. I've done four in a row, using one warp core for each jump and gaining two...

I think I did something very wrong, very right, or both.

Is this when you buy a ship or find one? Every time I've accepted a crashed ship my old one dissappears.

I really like NMS but the game is missing so much little details that could have made it great. The ability to place craftable beacons on worlds (that could function both as location markers and ship homing beacons) , store stuff at Space Stations, mark favorite systems from the galactic map, customize the look of your ship. It feels like a lot of half baked ideas that could have used another year of development.

California Prime has giant towers of gold and flying serpent worms.

Yeah I didn't get to my first Atlas station until I'd already hit Galileo. Though the stations do stop giving you warp cores for free after a few. Still, they're easy to craft.

This thread is making me wanting to play the game, the PC performance thread is making me not want to play the game. I'll probably cave in though..

Was going to boot it up and try and drain out some joy but instead looked up the galactic core 'ending' on Youtube.

Fuck it. I'm out. Hard out. Sean Murrayneux.

Wait... you can go back to your old ship after accepting a new one?

I hit that milestone and haven't even started the Atlas Path yet. What will happen?

wow...its been a while since i've had buyers remorse but whew. Played it for 2 hours and its just bleh. Also..is it just me or are you like 3ft tall in this game? its weird how claustrophobic this game feels..i keep wanting to be taller because it feels like im crawling.

I've only crashed once so far. Kinda frustrating regardless. Also had this one weird situation where I did a pulse jump and hit a space station as I was picking up speed. Pulse jump said it was aborted because of station proximity, but my ship just kept pushing against. Luckily I had a warp cell anyway so I just blasted away.

being forced out of a pulse jump due to proximity of something doesn't bring you to a complete stop, your boosters are still on and you're still going really fast. gotta slam on the brakes regardless.

No questions asked refunds on Steam if you've played less than 2 hours, so you can at least see how it runs on your system.

Reaching the core is summed up perfectly by this gif

Do you think as more and more people make it to the center that we'll see a pretty vocal backlash regarding the game and or ending?

The two endings of this game both being troll endings is I guess the only way this could have ended. Funny if it was a $20 experiment game, but man are there gonna be pissed $60 buyers.

Even better ending would have been the first NMS trailer playing after you reach the core with "Thats not in it!" subtitles on all the stuff faked up (ai pilot wingmen, giant dune snake, that level of wildlife).

It certainly changed my opinion of the game. I'd compare it to the TV show Lost.

I loved the journey but the ending actively tarnished my opinion of the whole thing. I will never touch the game again just like I never did a rewatch of Lost.

It's okay though. I spent almost 80 hours or something on the game doing pretty much nothing but playing the game since it was released so I definitely got my money's worth.
