For whatever reason, screenshotcomparison.com isn't working for me lately. So I'll have to post them individually. Just open each in a new tab, do a full zoom for both, and switch between the tabs to compare.

What AA settings are you using?

These look identical to me other than the weather particles being in different positions between shots. Can anyone zoom in and show me where to look for differences/improvements?

So on latest Experimental Build and Latest Nvidia drivers.

Running great so far, SLI scaling is working great and the hitching/stuttering is almost completely gone.

My problem is now I crash every time I try to enter my ship...

Thank you so much. Looks great! Can't wait to get home and play!!

Look at the water tower-like construction near the save prompt. The experimental branch screenshot seems to be less blurry

Just tried the new experimental update for 10 mins or so, didn't run any framerate OSD but the game feels so much smoother now, definitely the framerate has gone up, and the stutters are significantly reduced. There's some microstutter here and there, especially if I boost jump, but the hitches are much much shorter so it's not really messing with the gameplay so much. Flying in atmosphere is actually doable for me, still some slight hitching, but way smoother, although I believe the pop-in generation is more pronounced this time, but I'm not really sure since flying around was a slideshow most of the time.

And yeah, the blurry filter seems to be gone, the image quality is way better.

Looking forward to finally spending some quality time with this game.

EDIT:
Tried a few more minutes, walking around normally mostly keeps a 50-60 FPS, before patch was max around 40, with plenty of dips below 30 and below 20. Flying around seems to keep the framerate at around 40, still some hitching but very much bearable. This is all on an FX-8350, R9 380X 4GB and 16GB DDR3.

You have to be looking at these shots in 1:1 resolution to really see the difference. That, and it's much more apparent in motion. I wanted to get a shot with more buildings and foliage to better show it off, but that's the best I could do on short notice.

If you look at the fine details in the gun, the rocks and the creature floating in the distance, the cables above the building, the tower, the lamps, everything is now showing full subpixel structure.

UPDATE: Experimental Branch
We hope that you are enjoying No Man’s Sky, but if you have mailed support@hellogames.co.uk with an issue, then please know that we are working to respond and make your experience as smooth as possible.

For a list of most common issues and workarounds please go here:
Common Workarounds

Many of the most critical issues now have workarounds. PLEASE try these first.

We have hot fixes for many issues in a build which is currently with our test team. This will exit testing and be made live for all players soon.

If you are having issues and want to check this out immediately, we have made it available in a new Steam branch, called "Experimental".

We are updating this branch regularly.

We've already resolved many issues for people who reported them by moving them over to this branch.

Here’s what’s different

UPDATE: AMD Phenom Support
Thousands of lines of assembly have been rewritten to support AMD CPUs. The game code no longer relies on anything above SSE 2,
Havok Physics has also now created new libs. Game is now confirmed working on Phenom CPUs.

UPDATE: Mouse Smoothing
Smoothing on mouse movement has been improved to prevent hitching or stuttering, and is now adjustable through the Options menu in “Mouse Smoothing”.
It now defaults to off. If you feel the framerate is "slow" or "lumpy", please make sure that this is turned off (it helps players with sub-30 fps)

UPDATE: Improved Performance
On CPUs with 4 threads or fewer, performance has been improved.
On CPUs with 8 threads, performance has also been significantly improved.

UPDATE: Radeon 6xxx
Added support for this GPU, which doesn't support OpenGL 4.5 fully.

UPDATE: Player Saves
Help to recover some player saves which had been lost or corrupt.

Alt-Tab has improved
Some systems/configs were crashing or not pausing correctly on Alt Tab. This should now be resolved.

Shader Caching
Framerate was initially stuttering due to shaders not being correctly cached by the GPU on some systems. We have replaced the GPU caching system. You may notice some stutter during the Galactic Map intro to the game (the very first time you run), but it should be smoother from then on (this will be fixed in future). This is particularly true on ATI cards

Max FPS Cap
On some CPU/GPU configurations, setting Max FPS to 60 or 30 was not giving 60 or 30 FPS (causing stuttering). This has been improved.

Intel GPUs
The game will now let you know if you are trying to run with an unsupported GPU. This will hopefully flag for some users that their high end GPU has not been selected.
UPDATE: We are working on Intel GPU support.

Gsync
Gsync has been disabled by default, which was causing an issue for some users

Here is how you access it
To access the Experimental branch right-click on the game from the library page and select "Properties". Among the available tabs will be the "BETAS" tab.

Your new branch should be listed in the dropdown menu under "Select the beta you would like to opt into:"

Code: 3xperimental
If you encounter issues with this please mail support@hellogames.co.uk and include [EXPERIMENTAL] in the subject.

IF THIS BRANCH FIXES YOUR ISSUE, PLEASE LET US KNOW :)

Thank you,

Interesting. So i7 = 4 core HT = 8 threads = significantly improved performance?

That sounds like the fix that finally got rid of my infernal hitching, since I have an i7 with 8 threads. The game was painful to play at times before today, but it's now buttery smooth with only few and very brief exceptions. I can barely believe how much better it feels to play now.

Captain Pants

Killed by a goddamned Dredgeling
It's a night and day difference for me. Game runs super smooth now on my 660M, so that should be encouraging. I may turn AA on and crank up the textures some. This is the first time I've played it without any stuttering and it's beautiful.

edit: I didn't know how slow the menus were running for me until I see how smooth and fast they are now. Ha! Seriously, this makes me super happy!

I'm not seeing any improvement over the patch that was released earlier today. It's smooth while I'm hanging around the same spot, but if I walk far enough or jump in my ship and take off it stutters again. I appreciate that they are making an effort to fix things though. It's a good improvement over how the game was when launched.

Glad to see them working hard on performance improvements. Really hope mods can improve the overall look of this game. Removing the "Instagram" filter reveals how bland everything looks underneath...

Thought I should post this in here as well;

So the mod scene is starting to ramp up for those on PC, and there's already some very good ones. Here's what I'm using;

Fast Actions - No more holding down clicks or buttons for anything
Remove scanlines, CA, Vignetting
ShutUp - Remove voice warnings, can even choice between which ones you want to take out
Hi-Res Icons

The mod site is getting hammered and is super slow right now though.

Fast Actions is a must have, you can fly through the UI. It even makes buying and selling certain amounts of stuff way faster.

2560x1440, max settings + FXAA (latest Experimental build).

That's the kind of clarity I expect from native 1440p. There was something seriously weird going on with previous builds render-wise.

The latest Experimental build also fixed my 64.4 fps lock issue; Framerate is now fully unlocked. Game is performing better overall as well.

Once patch is actually out, but not before that.

Actually you can, not at the moment though. But the experimental patch (the first iteration i believe) was accessible through gog galaxy this morning (spain time). On settings you can turn on beta updates and select it.

Oh nice! MUCH better. Will test tonight. 😊

I think there's something very wrong with the foliage in this screenshot.

Bad start for the PC version but good on Hello games for the quick response. Sounds like the recent branch is significantly better for a lot of people.

I'm going to double-dip on this game when I get home from a work trip. The mods starting to crop up sounds awesome, and it will only get better from here. Can't wait for graphics mods that greatly increase draw distance and improve in-planet lighting.

Ha, you mean the way it meets the ground? Chalk it up to random generation. That, and it uses the common billboard technique to save on rendering performance.

Short of that, I think it looks nice in large, layered quantities, for what it is, and how much has to be generated in real-time.

Finally working! The latest patch has fixed my CPU spikes (i7 2700K + 980Ti) causing massive frame drops. Now it stays at 60fps when I'm walking around exploring, and it even stays at 60fps (with some minor drops) when flying over the surface of the planets.

No using any other workarounds, everything default and just with the new beta branch.

Nvidia update added a lot of stutter for me. Deleting the shader cache and disabling it in the Nvidia control panel helped a good bit but still not running as smoothly as before.

Edit: actually I think it's fine now. Was just in a area with tons of vegetation during rain which had it dropping some.

When this patch is out i think i will pick up the game. Hope it will run good on my i7 4790k and RX 480 8GB. Is it worth installing the game on my SSD?

Anti-Aliasing is working now. Running using SSAA x4 settings, and image quality is definitely improved.

VSync still needs to be fixed.

No, that's not what I mean. I mean the way it appears to be rendered is odd. As in it looks like there's an issue with the mipmap bias, kinda like Witcher 3 when it was released:
w1vcjsk.png

Note the lack of detail on the foliage on the left, even though the textures are identical.

Oh, you mean negative lod bias. I have it manually set to zero in The Witcher 3; I don't prefer the shimmering it introduces in finer textures in motion. That, and it reduces FPS by 3-5 on average.

To be clear, do you mean that you think No Man's Sky currently looks like it has negative lod bias, or that it needs it?

looks much better but the pop in is still quite jarring
