PSVR2 PC gaming adapter reviews

Yes, pre-order was up for about 30 minutes.
Was instantly out of stock for UK.

I have a 2080TI so I can just connect the PSVR2 without one, but I was thinking of getting a better card. Hope they make more soon.

amazon Germany doesn't even have a page for it. Playstation Store doesn't have a page for it. Will use my lunch break to venture into the real world and look into one or two of the big tech stores here in Berlin, if they got some in stock.

Absolute artificial scarcity shit show.

Edit: un1que un1que
Could "reverse engineer" the german store page from that, thanks.

am i right in saying that if your laptop has USB 3.2 Gen 2 (Type-C) port with DisplayPort 1.4, i can plug my PSVR2 directly into it without needing the adaptor?

Wow, only two stores in Sweden sell the adapter as far as I can see; most of the big retailers don't. No stock, no pre-order and it will be delivered on August 15 (earliest).

Oh, also it costs 75€/$81 here 🤠

Apparently peoples are finding with the app and virtual link cable to GPU (RTX 2000 series and RX6000 series iirc?) that it works without the module

I really think it would have benefitted Sony either purchasing or working closely with a studio dedicated to making original psvr games work with its successor. Or convert already vr enabled games to the platform similar to how they use Nixxes

I can absolutely confirm that PS VR2 does work on the 2070 Super. I had to dust off the old PC but once I installed the app the whole install was shockingly smooth. No issues whatsoever. I just connected the VR to the USB C port on the back of the card and the app detected everything. This PC didn't have onboard bluetooth so I used the Sony recommended ASUS USB-BT500 dongle. No issues with tracking in games that support the controller yet either. The main PC specs are:

i7-7700k

2070 Super

32GB memory

I tested the following games: Moss and Moss II, Everspace VR, Falconeer, Windlands 2, Halflife Alex, Half-Life 2 VR mod, Budget Cuts, Star Wars Squadron, Thumper, Redout, Pistol Whip and Ghost Signal. With the exception of Moss 2, which endlessly loads between areas. Don't know if its the PC or PSVR, everything worked great. With games using the VR controls, input lag wasn't an issue for me as I was able to do well in Thumper before exiting the game. For years, I've used the Quest 2/3 for my VR needs via Link cable and virtual desktop and seeing games through this headset has been eyeopening. Man this display is BRIGHT. The colors really pop and the blacks are a lot better in my opinion.

I was lucky enough to snag the PC adapter for my 4090 PC and that should be here next week. It will be a good back up in case I don't want to pull out this 2070 PC. Hopefully the install will be just as smooth.

There's no search term that brings up the pc adapter on amazon. Why do they hide it? I had to use the posted link from cyberheater cyberheater .

Didn't matter, at around 4am I finally got the official page up and ordered it direct. Slightly slower shipping than amazon but free since I have ps+ currently.

He said he preferred PSVR2 to Quest3. That’s quite a statement and he has a ton of experience on VR headsets.

Q3 streaming compression is terrible at all bitrates and codecs, very noticeable degradation compared to a lossless display link. Its LCD's are also trash, way under 1000:1 contrast and maybe 80% SRGB. PSVR2 hardware would be a slam dunk if its lenses and headstrap/comfort weren't industry worst. .

I was going to post this. Glowing review. Loves the colors. No issue for him with the controllers.

If only Sony would give fov. rendering and all haptics.

I use globular cluster like this reviewer. I don’t mind stock pads (better than stock q3 imho) but GC pads are so necessary for hitting the sweet spot.

Under 1000:1 contrast? How is that possible?

Well I mean the scalpers probably over-estimated how much demand there is for it.(Since I don't think they're going to be able to actually get much for them.) However if they're right then Sony under-estimated.
There are always scalpers but if they overestimated demand then scalpers wouldn't be scalping since it wouldn't be out of stock. They're doing it because there isn't enough supply at retailers or PS direct.

Majority of psvr2 users would be happy even with simple vr mode vs getting nothing

I realize VR2 owners who want more content feel this way, but I get it from the directors POV that he doesn't want to make a sequel to a full VR game that feels like a sub-par VR experience in comparison. He wants to know whether he has to worry about the experience of Astro Bot 1 players coming back and playing with a headset again, and wants to go all-in either way.

It's embarrassing how poorly this was handled. No preorder. Can't get on a waiting list. Just bookmark all the store listings and hope for the best.

Sony: "hey it's on sale now; oh, tough luck if you were doing anything else in your life because now it's gone and fuck you for even considering it!"

Here's me using BT with PSVR2 running a single cable through my 2080TI.

This is 1m away from the BT adapter, when I was 5m away in the doorway it was stuttering and when I took a step behind the wall(Still 5 m) it was UNPLAYABLE.

I guess I can get a USB extender and plug in the BT cable and have that dragged into the other room.

Even with a perfect signal, Bluetooth adds latency that sucks for VR. No way around it. Kinda ruins the immersion

Hmm, it looks I was lucky then, since my adapter will be in my place today (ordered yesterday).

Question: I have rtx2080ti but it is not used. I use rtx3090, so should I proceed with 3090+adapter or undust 2080ti and play without adapter? I will lose some performance in more demanding games I think if I go 2080ti route.

Did that first snapshot looks like latency issues to you?
There is no difference between this setup and my VD Quest 2 and 3 Setup, if anything this was faster.

No one complained about PSVR2 controller latency when connected to the PS5 so it should be the same for PC. If folks are experiencing Bluetooth latency issues on PC then it’s a hardware/software set up problem.

Not a review but another impression.

Can skip to usage impressions at 38 min mark.

I am so confused. Reviews are very mixed. Some people say that image is better than quest 3 and others say it's worse. How is it possible?? Maybe they are using the wrong resolution on steamVR.

They're just cheap higher PPD IPS phone displays in a different form factor, virtually all IPS displays are well under 1000:1. Switch and Steamdeck LCD'S are also Sub-1K.
Laptops and monitors are usually around 1000:1, already pretty bad for dark content. 5000:1 contrast in VA TVs feels like a mid point between IPS and OLED.

A direct connection like PSVR2 will benefit greatly from internal supersampling. Even the old PSVR1 looks much better with supersampling; I used it to play some cockpit games on PC.

What do you think most (even regular) controllers use exactly?

There is no alternative with lower latency, if anything the VR alternatives like connecting through Wifi, or input being processed on the headset and sent to the game are worse for latency.
Bluetooth 5.0 is low latency.

Bluetooth 5.0 is low latency.
The position of the controllers is where you would more easily notice latency, but that is determined by the four cameras in the headset, independently from the Bluetooth connection, and since it's wired it should be as low latency as with the PS5.
