See? Now I'm confused again. I see the word "traditional". If they truly said there would be no " traditional " multiplayer, that could mean that there is multi, but not your typical multi. Like dark souls for example.

Now I'm hearing there will be a "traditional" multiplayer added post launch? I just need concrete info. Why are they making this so hard? Is this apart of the meta or something?

Yep its too vague. As much as I think NMS is an amazing concept, Im not convinced that they've pulled it off and made it an interesting experience.

Personally Im going to wait for reviews, theres no reason to pre-order.

Not sure how they've made it hard. Sean talks about the possibility of running into people all the time. There's no traditional multiplayer in the sense that you can't invite your friend to your location or something like that.

There is no coordinated multiplayer.

You will see other players eventually, but certainly not at the start of the game. It may take weeks of playtime to run into another player.

When you do, there won't be any indication they are another player. If they do weird stuff, you can tell, but there is no direct communication or chat. There is no co-op/team stuff in the game. There is no player-to-player trading either. I'm not sure if you can even attack another player inside or outside their ship, in PvP fashion.

All you can really do together is follow each other around. If you choose to, you can both attack the same targets and what not, but it's more of a base-level cooperation. Any materials that drop from destroyed ships or rocks or whatever are on a first-come/first-grab basis with no assigned loot, so far as we know.

Other players are pretty much just added ambient immersion in the environment.

Sean DID say, however, they might add a more traditional multiplayer system down the road, but at the start, it's just you, your ship and a bunch of planets to scan.

If you desperately want to play with someone, you will basically have to get a player's Gamertag ID, add them to your friends list at the console level, and communicate with them via 3rd party chat/VOIP. Like PSN, XBL or Steam. But even then, you're going to have a hell of a time trying to find the person you're looking for unless the game uses a common constellation arrangement where players can actually star-map themselves to a rendezvous point of some sort.
 
Expected it to be ~40$ because it looks like a sandbox rather than a full game.
So far i have only seen demos of flying and walking around in what is essentially empty space. It looks nice, but i still don't understand what you are supposed to do in the game after ~1 hour of playing when you get used to the art style.

Speaking of the NPCs, the studio's really eager to stress that the game is packed with lore, though it's something that we're unable to really sample in our agonisingly short hands-on. One neat touch, however, is that they'll all speak different languages, and you'll gradually pick up on the meaning of words by exploring their planets; fail to take the time to pick up on the local lingo, however, and you'll find communication more difficult. This can be particularly problematic in trading scenarios, where picking the wrong option due to a misunderstanding may find you on the receiving end of a blaster to the rear.

Whoa... We're going to have to learn alien languages?

Oh wow, it's like the full fledged Out There I always wanted (since last year)
 
This is definitely sounding like a "best on PC" game, the more reviewers talk about the PS4 performance not being that smooth yet. (Although, after Arkham, that's not a guarantee either)

But, I'll hang onto the "it's only alpha/beta" moniker for a couple more months and hope the PS4 fans get a silky smooth version too.

Whoa, now that is awesome! So much this reminds me of the sci-fi adventure books as a kid, and the wild imagination in the 80's.
 
NPC aliens are brand new news. Alien language learning giving me Space-Fez vibes, which I love, because I loved Fez. I hope I need a notebook!

Well... seeing as it is $60 CDN right now, I feel I must pre-order today in case that is a mistake...

Edit: Wow... I actually find myself scared to pre-order... that this is a game I don't feel confident will deliver... I guess I'm going to wait and see. I'll risk a price change.

This means development costs were cheaper.... As a consumer, if development costs are cheaper, I want to pay less.

The whole justification for game prices going from $50 to $60 was that HD development became much more expensive, so it's only logical that gamers would want to pay less for a game with cheaper development costs.

This isn't about disrespecting indie devs. This is about not wanting to pay an arbitrary premium to Sony for publishing.

I may actually not buy on day 1 (though it is tempting because I can pay $60 CDN right now instead of the usual $80... so I'm already paying a smaller price)...

I suspect there is going to be a strong reaction from reviewers to this being a $60 title...

Edit: I'm pretty sure I'm seeing frequent screen tearing in all video's I've seen too... which is a huge turn-off for me.

It wouldn't matter, but I'd laugh if the game was 500MB in size, or anything less than 1GB... the reactions would be golden.

I remember seeing a video where the designer said that every planet has a landing pad. That would totally put me off, as it means that I am obviously not exploring unexplored worlds.

The art direction and theory behind this game makes me really root for it but my burning question is how can endless exploration be fun when every planet and environment they've shown essentially consists of flat plains with tress sprinkled on it. What exactly am I able to discover if it was already mentioned that intricate building structures or similar are not a thing, what's going to surprise the player and make exploration even remotely exciting?

What I'm seeing defined as exploration in this video is someone tediously walking at a snail's pace in several slight variations of the same landscape.
 
From my initial excitement, I've slowly started feeling more apprehensive about this living up to expectations. I hope I'm wrong, but the videos seem to be pretty much of a muchness now (at least to my eyes), with little variation for a universe that is supposed to be so diverse.
 
Let's put an end to this shit... this game should have had a price drop the way things must have been going leading up to release. But that couldn't be allowed to happen after people dished out $60 6 months prior...
