Too crispy. It’s raw 4k with taa so ghosting and dithering it’s there compared to pro mode. And it’s 50 fps
It goes between 50 - 70 fps. With VRR, it's my perfect way to play. So glad they give us the options cuz I'd be bummed playing in regular Pro mode.

Very useful thread. Feels to me like the improvements probably just aren’t worth the purchase, especially as I have a decent PC set up.

With PC you still have to wait for PS exclusives to hit. It was a joke for RDR to make it on PC 14 years after the console release.

But there's nothing wrong with having everything if you can afford it. I did upgrade to a 4070 Super recently, but with the Pro around now, I'm thinking twice on where to play my games overall.

Series X was the 3rd party machine for me, but it might just be for gamepass games if I want to be cheap. Otherwise I'm looking to see how the Pro will handle those 3rd party games in comparison. If good, I play on there. Sony could potentially take market share away from Xbox if 3rd party games perform better on the Pro.

Seeing this improvement from Forbidden West and Rebirth, those alone made me feel solid about the purchase and the future of what games will capitalize on this new hardware.

Hmmm. It's disappointing for the money at the moment. I went against my better judgement and paid the price for it just so I could smell the new console exhaust fumes.

Playing Stellar B;lade in Pro Max mode. Incredible game.
Did you not see Digital Foundry testing. The Pro Max Native 4K image is technically worse than the normal Pro mode using PSSR. The Pro Max uses the original 4K fidelity image but has original ghosting and some other issues, and at only 50fps. You're sacrificing framerate and technically a worse presented image than normal Pro mode which has HFR of 80fps.

There's a reason the included they Pro Max mode.
I'm 9' away from a 77" C3 and the difference in IQ is more impactful to me than the HFR. The 50-70 fps window with VRR looks and feels great, but the oompf factor from that IQ, is something I ain't going back from. DF be damned LOL.

I'm sitting 10.5 feet away from my 85 inch and that's not even that close. I have toggled between the two modes myself and the image is sharper on normal Pro mode and I wouldn't be sacrificing framerate @ sub 60fps for pro max. Not sure where you're getting 50-70 fps window from either.

I will taker higher resolution any day over higher frame rate.

Fair play. Skill Up's review has just cemented my decision not to bother with buying one... yet. I'll see whether any games will actually justify its purchase, or if waiting for PS6 makes more sense.

The TV has a frame counter which I've seen go from 50 - 67 fps and with VRR it's smooth enough for me. It's so much clearer and enjoyable to me in Pro Max mode and I'm grateful the option is there. Not sure what's so controversial lol. Enjoy the game in whichever mode you prefer and be glad there's options.

Gotta say, I really love how the modular disc drive works. I like the idea of adding it if you want it and the loading mechanism is smooth and feels high quality. This not only future proofs the console but also preserves Blu-ray/UHD movies. Since lasers and all of the moving parts tend to go out on drives over time, you can simply pop another drive in without much effort.

The one negative is with it being an optional add-on, I could see discs slowly going away since it's not the default and only Limited Run and big titles getting releases. That said, I'm mostly digital when it comes to newer consoles but I like having the drive for movies and games that WILL get delisted like Rock Band and Pinball Arcade.

No Silksong? = Delivering the pain.
I tried out a few games to test the features of it. Dark Souls 3 looks near 4k though with some slight aliasing. Textures look very sharp.

Diablo 4 looks like a 4k image now in the performance mode.

But man, horizon zero dawn remaster…I just tried it out for testing and suddenly I’m 5 hours in and going to re-plat it. Absolutely stunning image quality and performance.

I’m also very hopeful for monster hunter wilds and the pro being able to make that perform well.

Just binged the hell out of Miles Morales. That was a really good time, and I think I may have it enjoyed it more than Spider-man. Hopefully Spider-man 2 goes on sale for this Black Friday sale coming up. Moving on to FINALLY finishing God of War and then Ragnarok since I hear that looks amazing. Miles looks very good, btw. Good enhancements and a very smooth experience. I'm pleased so far with the console.

I think if you sit close to the TV it's worth it right now. Which I do for most of my gaming but sometimes I do sit in the living room. I haven't tested out my pro from the living room honestly so maybe I'll do that and change my mind.

Again what's worth it is going to vary from person to person. I traded in my Ps5 and got the pro for like $490. I don't think that's such a big deal to spend but maybe that much money is a lot to some people. I game all the time, it's one of my main hobbies and even with this being my 3rd PS5 it's by far my cheapest hobby.

Got it today. Some thoughts:

1. Easy set-up. I moved my SSD and all the games worked immediately. Save files transfer via clouds easily.
2. I had the OG PS5, and the smaller size looks much nicer to me.
3. I tried a bunch of games. In some unpatched games (BLOPS6), the difference is subtle. I play on a 55" OLED, so it may be more visible to people with larger TVs. Some patched games I tried look better, but not by a huge margin, like Diablo 4. Some games look awesome in motion (H:FW). The biggest difference I saw was BG3. The performance mode looks much better than the previous quality. Jedi Survivor looks incredible in the 30 FPS mode. I'm eager to try out patched BLOPS6 and GT7.
4. It's wisper silent.
5. Huge improvement I saw was WiFi. The lag in BLOPS6 is perceptibly lower and the experience is much better. I have a WiFi 7 router and 1.2 Gbps link. This may be a results of 5GHz congestion since I am in the apartment building, but I love the WiFi upgrade.

Overall, it's a great upgrade, although the price is rather steep for the upgrade.

I didn't realize the Pro replaces the front USB-A port with a USB-C port, so now my USB hub doesn't work. My 2 rear slots are occupied by an SSD and the PSVR1, so I need to buy a USB-C hub. Any recommendations? Currently looking at UGREEN Revodok USB C Hub, not sure if there's a better one out there.
Just get a USB A to C adapter, or replace the cable if it's detachable. No need to be buying new hubs...

For the most part, I bought the PS5 Pro in anticipation for the next four years of AAA releases, but honestly, I'm impressed by how much it improves currently released titles. From the build-quality of the hardware to the gorgeous UI to the graphical upgrade, everything about it feels luxurious.

I know it carries over from the slim but having the panels be segmented is awesome. Just need to pop off the one small panel to insert the ssd. Much much easier to handle than the launch ps5 cover plates.

Awesome setup.

I sought out to play Hogwarts Legacy but got roped into trying to platinum Spider-Man 2 since it plays phenomenally on the Pro.

Disappointed by a few design choices and mediocre boost for unpatched games, but all in all pretty happy with my purchase.

As others have said I bought this for the future of AAA gaming over the next 4 years, but it does lose some points as I also bought it for my backlog of games.
