Depressing MP3 numbers.
Nintendo family has sold 285k units of hardware!
In May, Nintendo sold more than 285,000 units of portable and console hardware. At the E3 Expo in Los Angeles last week, Nintendo revealed a massive slate of first- and third-party games on the way for Nintendo 3DS and the upcoming Wii U console. Further details about Nintendo's E3 announcements can be found here: http://e3.nintendo.com. We're looking forward to a strong second half of 2012.

If we take the respective "third" month the difference isn't that big.
Sure this past may was horrid for Vita in Japan with a record low 27K.
Depressing MP3 numbers.
Update to our rough numbers:
360: 160K
PS3: 124K
3DS: 113.5K
Wii: 71K
PSV: >50K, <56.8K

lol, max Payne 3 wasn't in development for 8 years.
Thats just abysmal. I don't see how a CoD or AC will suddenly make people buy this system. It's still relatively new and its still getting trounced by the 3DS 2:1 here (and 5-10:1 in Japan). Ouch!
These console are just tired and old. People want new consoles, and now.
The same thing happened last generation. The typical month sales last gen were around 100-200k.
It wasn't until this generation did consoles consistently sell 300k+ a month

So Mario Open Tennis for 3DS less than 41.8k
Dragon's Dogma didn't keep its lofty 5million unit sales goal, did it?
Console numbers tell us we're still in an economic downturn than anything else. Every other living expense has shot through the roof (between the price creep-up and the shrink rays I'd say food bills are 20-30% higher over last year with most items), which in turn hits the poor man's hobby pretty hard.
The bad news is what is supposed to save the Vita in the summer months? Gravity Rush? lol.
It could go under 50k next month.
Vita will be remembered as the most ironic name for a failed gaming device. Dreamcast is close though.
How about some Starhawk hints for the icing on the cake?
Wow, next generation is coming soon but I don't think anything is going to change.
We're still going to be seeing the same rehashed crap over and over again.
Maybe the analysts are right--this industry is dying
I do predict that one of the big three drops out of console manufacturing after next go-round.
Unless the Nintendo DS sold 100k units, one of these two posts are wrong.
Just about to post this. Where does the missing 100,000 go? Wii?
Vita < 1/2 3DS
NDS is the missing link here.

so between 51k and 56k
that makes it lower than the lowest officially-known ds monthly number (59k).
This is what happens when you drop RPG mode Camelot. >:[The new mario game is less than 1/4 latest MC LTD number.

How much do you guys think the economy plays into this? The total income of the middle class is stagnant/dropping and almost every other cost is rising right now.

come on 3DS owners....
fucking pathetic
I didn't mean for the impact it would have on software sales. I meant the impact it would have on how the launch lineups are perceived on new systems. It wouldn't surprse me if software sales are better next year simply because it won't be hard to outdo this year for releases. Not really.
If the brand is big enough the games will still continue to do well. Final Fantasy XII, Persona 4, God of War 2 and a few more where all games that shipped either around or after 360 and PS3.

So DS sold almost as well as the 3DS in May 2012?

Vita storms the May Charts with Record-Breaking Month
So Mario Open Tennis for 3DS less than 41.8k
Europe PS3 sales estimates from the chart posted earlier
First 3 months -
175k + 90k + 75k + 70k + 80 + 65 + 65 + 65 + 60 + 60 + 50k + 50 + 60 + 65 =
1.03 mil
NA -
jan ? + 310k + 337k = 647k + jan month which should be less then 270k
Honest question: Is there any hope for the Vita at this point?
Almost bought it yesterday, but decided against it. It's legs will surely carry it to decent numbers though. Honestly Nintendo is approaching Mario overload levels with five games this year, seven in a year span come November (nine if you include Luigi's Mansion and NintendoLand).
Vita is just awful. Gravity Rush.... I fear next months numbers.
