Only games with retail versions also available are counted in the digital sales reports
You're lying... (or wrong and didn't notice it, I will assume you didn't read it fully).
In the fiscal year ending March 2024, Nintendo generated approximately 50.2 percent of its gaming software revenue via digital unit sales. This includes sales of downloadable versions of packaged software, download-only software, add-on content and Nintendo Switch Online. During the measured period, digital sales amounted to 443.3 billion yen.

Oh fair, I actually didn't, I remember reading on Install Base they only report from full game sales
I believe the vast majority of Nintendo full game sales are physical (which thankfully is a good thing, fuck digital future). The carts are tasty too.
I could be wrong, which would make me sad. I don't really like digital unless I have to get that (cheaper/only option).

What's interesting here is the fact that Ghost of Tsushima still did numbers on Steam even with the so called PSN account requirement backlash/boycott.

Ya fucked it dudes, you've got to actually follow through and put your money where your mouth is.
Do people still not understand what happened very specifically with Helldivers?

Phone reception is more important to me than human rights
their point was that it's not healthy for the industry, which I would agree with. Even more so when you look at #8 is a high possible acquisition for Sony. Either way more than half the top 20 is 3 companies.
When one forgets why Sea of Thieves is ranked that high after all these years....or how MS just completed the ABK acquisition recently.... its a lil disingenuous.

If some ppl are worried about the industry...stop cheerleading acquisitions. And dont forget that SoT is now on PlayStation.

Do people still not understand what happened very specifically with Helldivers?
Yeah...some ppl bitched about something that was supposed to happen at launch and the devs put on hold. Every mention of a PSN account was there from day one.

And that caused others users that didnt even care to now be affected when Sony pulled it from regions without official PSN support.

It was really a non issue that blew up for no reason and some users got caught in the cross fire. What really blew my mind is some ppl with industry insight/knowledge basically agreeing with the internet mob and throwing all context out the window.

It was "Sony doesnt do cross play"all over again.

PS ecosystem makes money for partners. No, not everything is successful, but they have more hits than failures, I would guess.

Sea of Thieves being on PlayStation doesn't help Capcom employees put food on the table... Not sure why you think it being on PlayStation makes a difference.

And yeah, big consolidation is bad for developers.

?

I'm not talking about Helldivers in that post. So you tell me.
Ok well then show where there was massive push back against Ghost of Tsushima requiring a PSN account for multiplayer. There wasn't, beyond the steam deck incompatibility, because it was known way up front. The Helldivers 2 PSN requirement got backlash, specifically because it happened after a PSN account wasn't required to play for a decent amount of time so left players stranded.

Helldivers II always required PSN from the start, people just didn't read.

"If you live in these countries just pirate it" that's a totally reasonable statement for a game where you literally cannot sign in to PSN due to your country why even include this

Because if you read the replies there are people saying it won't sell and that they will pirate it out of "principle" even though they can legitimately purchase it.

So much for that.

I mean from real people, not youtubers chasing clickbait.

Try having a look at the comments/replies to what I posted.

There was also plenty of discussion on the Steam forums themselves.

Or are you going to tell me the people responding to those videos/tweets/discussions in agreement are not real people?

I guess the people who purchased it just to leave negative reviews over this aren't real either:

A handful of people isn't exactly a movement, you could get a handful of people, just on this forum, that don't like any given thing about gaming. Even in that level up article they included a "game keeps crashing" review as part of the 'review bombing'.

You're trying too hard. It's clear that at the time the review bombing was very much predominantly because of the account linking:

The game is fantastic, but I think it’s still worth pointing out that far and away the most common negative user review on Steam is focused on the PSN requirement rather than anything to do with gameplay or PC performance. There are negative reviews about performance as well, including crashes, freezing, the game simply not running and so forth. Other reviews mention how it’s blocked in countries without PSN.

You're going to find negative reviews for performance with every game in existence on Steam, that's just the nature of the beast with PC gaming, even with games that don't have any underlying issues.

When you have coordinated review bombing taking place to such an extent that steam needs to flag the review section for it due to the reviews being "off-topic" then it's very much a "movement".

More Hellblade 2 info:

The picture doesn't look any better when looking at only Xbox platform data.

Man, I'm going to wait for a sale on the Playstation Store before I'll buy Hellblade 2.

Probably going to be the 2025 Summer Sale.

So Paper Mario took the overall #1 spot if we include Nintendo's unreported digital sales. That makes me so happy, hopefully Nintendo takes note and we can get some new traditional Paper Mario games in the future.

Pretty sure digital sales are 50% of software sales on the switch according to Nintendo's financial reports.
Donald Trump GIF by Election 2016

If they counted digital SPM numbers would be double what they are.
Two things

  1. As of this year, more than half of all games sold on the Switch are digital
  2. A 128GB card on the Switch could hold anywhere from 6-20 of the average Switch game. Switch game file sizes are VERY small. Only some third party games are bigger than 20GB or so

Mr Moose Mr Moose is correct. The digital sales share in Nintendo’s reports is about the % of software revenue coming from digital sources. It's not packaged vs. downloaded.

In Japan, a game like TTYD gets around a 30% digital ratio, so that's a rough ballpark of whst the ratio could be in the US.

Fucking called it. He's not allowed to talk badly of xbox of course.
Only after he was asked. This was marketed as the next marquee release after Starfield. Looking out for MS by omission.
So he's allowed to to say that Xbox Series is in third in units for the month, third in units for the year and is tracking 13% behind Xbox One.

He's also allowed to share three different chart positions for Hellblade 2, but only if he gets asked about it on social media.

If he's supposed to be defending Xbox, he's doing a terrible job.

The reality is that there is no conspiracy here.

You mean sonys strategy of releasing 2 years after is working out great.

Exactly. Even if one day it happens, situations like this won't be why. When Sony can release a 4-year old game on PC and it tops sales charts that month, but a brand new Xbox game barely cracks Top 40 on two platforms in the only region the console even remotely sells in.

That's not an indication that Sony's strategy needs to change. I'd say it's the opposite. Because you're either enticing people to buy the console to get these games Day 1, or they're just gonna wait and gobble it up anyways. It's a win/win for Sony.

It also has the effect of keeping an older game in the overall mindshare of the gaming community longer. Again, this is a 4-year old PlayStation game that is now making sales headlines for topping charts. Now imagine a sequel gets announced any time within the next 12 months.

Even further, it has the additional effect of keeping PlayStation Studios in the headlines for good reasons. Only further increasing the perceived prestige of that group.

I thought we were talking about how 7 of the games on the list were from from specific platform holders?

You have to get all the way to number 8 before you get a 3rd party title. That can't be healthy, can it?
That overlooks why SoT is on there. And why ABK games are now not considered 3rd party. Might as well add Minecraft too.

Looks like day 1 PC release for PS games isnt very far off if we go by such momentum
You are looking at the data in front of you all wrong.

What this looks like is that Sony can keep re-releasing 2+ year old games on the PC since they sell, keep releasing their GAAS titles on the PC day one... and stay as far from any strategy MS adopted because look at what its doing for the Xbox games and platform.

Totally forgot that those Zelda TotK NSW OLEDs sold like hot cakes last year! 😳

That said, thanks for the estimations and also for the aggregate NPD data per platform.

I thought we were talking about how 7 of the games on the list were from from specific platform holders?

It's not about their platforms, but about their share of the revenue, which allows them to then buy developers and publishers and close them when they see fit.

It's bad for the industry. The more consolidation, the fewer risks, the more generic games will become.

You are looking at the data in front of you all wrong.

What this looks like is that Sony can keep re-releasing 2+ year old games on the PC since they sell, keep releasing their GAAS titles on the PC day one... and stay as far from any strategy MS adopted because look at what its doing for the Xbox games and platform.
eh just ignore him, he has an agenda which he’s then trying to twist things to fit the narrative he wants to push

Except he tweeted about it when asked.

You guys are obsessed with that mid ass game lol

Mr Moose Mr Moose is correct. The digital sales share in Nintendo’s reports is about the % of software revenue coming from digital sources. It's not packaged vs. downloaded.

In Japan, a game like TTYD gets around a 30% digital ratio, so that's a rough ballpark of whst the ratio could be in the US.

The MOST overhyped game of this generation by Xbox themselves and fanboys. You gonna tell me it’s not worth mentioning where it stood in the Circana reports?

adamsapple adamsapple told us it was much better game than The Order and metacritic is high so it must be amazing and selling out everywhere

I wonder if he came to this conclusion while he was pressing up on the analog stick on a beach with voices screaming at him while his controls were constantly interrupted

Masterpiece

Perhaps they have a little brother that wears a rubber helmet and he feels empathy for you? Jesus, can no one want to help the mentally challenged?

If you’re not slow then I apologize, as I was told by my wife it’s the correct thing to do on the interwebs.

Edit: I cannot believe I have to say this, but apparently you have to say you’re only joking now days.
