NPD Sales Results for March 2013 [Up5: BioShock Infinite]

I do feel both BioShock and Tomb Raider had ~1 million potential, but I feel this isn't disastrous for them at least.

It will be interesting to see how things are doing in Q4 and this time next year.

I'm not sure what the expectations were for Bioshock, but SE wanted 5-6M for Tomb Raider, and ended up shipping 3.4M.

Tomb Raider was out the full 5 weeks in March. With these numbers, there's not a chance in hell that SE gets through that 3.4M shipment without some significant price protection costs eating even further into the game, which even then still missed expectations by a good 1.5M. I'm not seeing any upside to this picture from a sales perspective.

y'all should be ashamed
Holy SHIT, Criterion deserves better than that. Those NFS numbers should signal a red alert for any 3rd party. Man that's bad.

I wonder if Call of Duty for Wii U is showing any legs at all. The games did just decently enough to stay on Wii. If Activision ever drops Wii U, then they've really got nothing for third party support.

The wii u is basically living off Ubisoft and WB at this point. They're the only companies giving them games that aren't month late ports.

It won't do DS numbers in the long run.

However, you don't buy it when gamers say button>touch when it comes to portable gaming? I mean, I can't see anyone who IS serious about gaming portably NOT take a long look at the 3DS (and maybe, hopefully one day, the Vita).

That's always going to be my stance, but I think Nintendo lost a massive amount of casual people to mobile.

That color scheme is horrible. I can't tell three of those colors apart.

Sorry. Never thought of colorblind people. =\

Can you tell them apart like this?

If you made a sequel on a two year cycle instead of TR's five year cycle you could make good money on it at this level. That's the primary upside of at least having sales volume to work with.

Isn't Madden 25 not announced for WiiU ?

Correct. And with <10K for NFS Wii U, Madden 25 is NOT coming out.

So far, Madden 24 has charted:

November 2012 - #13
December 2012 - #13
January 2013 - #11
February 2013 - Below position #15

...on the Wii U relative software charts.

And it couldn't even manage 100,000 units sold in 4 months of being on the market.

With sales like that + NFS sales + EA restructuring, EA isn't touching the Wii U again.

Konami should just release a Castlevania compilation with the 300 2D Castlevania's on one cartridge. Would be a cheaper and easier way to make money than crappy 3D versions.

Isn't it worse than what Tri did in its first month?

I wonder what the 3DS / Wii U split was.

It's about equal to or a little less than Tri's launch, and that was heavily marketed while this game was not (it had ads on Twitch but what else). I suspect it will have a bit more legs this time around with nothing on Wii U until May.

Madden 25 isnt announced vita, ps4 or 720 either.

In all fairness the 720 doesn't exist and PS4 was announced < 2 months ago. It will come out for those two systems without question.

Vita? Honestly probably not. Maybe though since it came out last year and seemed to do *relatively* decent IIRC.

A WiiU version not being announced is more than concerning

They have a good relationship with Ubisoft, but the Rayman thing makes me doubt if they'll get any substantive exclusives. And Rayman is going to get devoured now by people waiting for Nintendo's own games.

Can we give Castlevania back to IGA?

I'm pretty sure Order of Ecclesia did better than that and I'm sure it cost much less.

I'm pretty sure IGA will likely be handling the future 3DS entries (if there are any), given the sales and reviews for this release.

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.
I think Mirrors of Fate is a great game! I wasn't expecting gangbusters for it,but 3ds is still a crap shoot for third party titles except the odd one or two. people have been laughing at the platform recently, saying no ones going to ever come close to even angry birds on it

I'm really happy Nintendo has a lot of momentum but it isn't the ds success story for everyone

How did the DS castlevanias do at launch?

They'll have to go through a generational shift for the sequel, so I don't think they'll be able to put Tomb Raider Next out that quick.

Quite possibly not, but they do have a new IP going, so they can manage staff and at least keep it down to 3 years in total with less in actual production.

Yep, completely moronic decision to hold it back AND announce a port.

This illustrates why comparing the NDS early on is a useless measuring device. One of the stats that always gets overlooked is that the NDS never was able to match the success of the GBA launch aligned. It ultimately did better because Nintendo killed off the GBA early to vie for developer support against the PSP.

I doubt they get any more exclusives but just getting things like Watchdogs or the new Batman day one is a step up from what everyone else is doing.

Capcom has to be relatively pleased with Monster Hunter.

They wanted the franchise to get big in the west. Nintendo pushed it and the sales are still nothing to write home about. I believe part of the reason they went completely exclusive with MH on Nintendo is because they believed Nintendo could push MH to be bigger than ever before (kinda like how Nintendo pushed DQIX to be the best selling DQ in the west IIRC?)

With that said, given the WiiU's current situations, I believe the sales are acceptable.

Stop charging $40 for games! $29.99 and more people will buy software. If they are laughing at 3DS, then what are they doing about Vita software?

Like I said Ill wait till E3. Madden was not announced for Wii U until July? last year same with Vita.

Im pretty sure press releases admit if a console is not unvield yet they refer to them as the "next generation consoles"

cream, can you give a rough idea of how Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate sales were split between 3DS and Wii U?

They didn't push it at all in NA. It is EU where Nintendo is responsible.

ALL late ports from EA. Every last title.

Releasing ME3 (and not the trilogy) was simply insulting and made no sense. It could have been a shot at capturing Nintendo gamers who weren't familiar with the universe. But instead they ported the third game and sent it out to die.

edit: ffs, the PC version is 20 Euros! Who would pay triple as much for 1/3rd of the content?
