This is a sad day for America.

I watched the TGS streams, I know what Playstation is all about. All of you Playstation lovers with your loli obsession and your anime avatars, if you love Japan so much, why don't you just move there? It saddens me that Americans would choose to associate with that rather than the sturdy, rugged, masculine, patriotic The One. Yet, throughout these sad times that we live in, I have still kept alive a lingering flame of hope that the great American values will endure, and Pacther’s predictions this week helped kindle that flame. But if these news are true, I may have to finally abandon that hope.

If these news are true, that is. Anyone else think it’s suspicious how NPD starts hiding console numbers, so that we are left at the mercy of the console manufacturers to provide us with what information they will, and suddenly Playstation starts doing better than Xbox? No one else finds it suspicious how the well-informed and knowledgeable video games analyst Pachter, who usually makes predictions with great accuracy, after consulting his vast retail contact network, predicts that The One will come out ahead, yet when we get “official” numbers, suddenly PS4 has sold more? It’s not like this is the first time that Sony is caught with juking the stats. Esteemed video games sales expert ioi recently revealed how Sony was lying at Gamescom with their 10 million consoles sold number. You may think Sony wouldn’t go that far, but they have lied to us before. They lied to us about the Driveclub PS Plus version and they lied to us about the power of their systems. One lie leads to another and once you have gotten into the habit of lying, it is very hard to stop.

But I guess this is to be expected. People who want to harm America always have a propensity to believe in made-up numbers. Look at how North Korean citizens swallow lies from their own leaders. Or closer to home, look at how liberals are gulping down the Obama administration’s lies. Look at how they are cooking the books on Obamacare and job reports. 250000 new jobs added in September? Hah, where I live, in real rural America, most people have given up looking. 250000 new jobs, my ass. Plus, under President Romney, we would have had at least 400000 new jobs. Or look at how they lie about inflation as an excuse to print money, debasing the dollar further. President Reagan (may he rest in peace) is turning in his grave. Inflation below target? Tell that to my local grocery store and gas station! These Washington types, always coming at you with their fancy numbers and their facts and their smug grins, thinking they know better than you. (And don't get me started on those IRS bullies. Federal income tax is theft and, even worse, unconstitutional, and I'm not paying to help finance a government I never voted for. So they can take their tax return forms and their court summons and shove them up somewhere. Don't bother coming back here!) And throughout all this, the mainstream media keeps cheering the administration on, helping them pull the wool over Americans’ eyes. This is very similar to the gaming media, incidentally, with their strong Sony bias. Kotaku is far too close to Sony. Always has been.

Maybe it’s time we started unskewing the NPD results. Even though they started shilling for Sony only relatively recently, I have always felt that their numbers are suspect. They don’t track sales from online stores, where more and more customers are taking their business these days. Also, it is well-known that they don’t take digital download sales into account. Who knows how many console sales they miss that way?

Still, I am always the optimist. I have hopes for the future. It looks like people are finally starting to see through the Democrats’ lies. If polls are to be believed, we will put a patriotic majority back in the Senate in November. If it can happen there, we can get the powers for good back into power in the video game business at the same time, with the arrival of Halo: The Master Chief Collection and, most importantly, the monthly OS updates. Until then, God bless you all, and don’t forget to vote in November!

Woooo Booyyyy, that is one hell of a post. Hydrophillic even manages to make CrazedProfessional look calm and rational, Holy Shit!

This thread is better than most comedies on TV right now!

Honestly I expected more. Brawl opened with 2.7m

It's just 2 days, but could be more.
:/

It is a handheld game in a land that has been apathetic to handhelds this gen. 700k seems pretty great to me.
To me this number just reenforces that the 3DS is not a very healthy platform in the US.

I mean, I guess you could say it's good given that but I'm not willing to rationalize to that extent.

XboxOne will be Microsoft's last console.

I cannot help but think that what we think of as consoles will change by the time this generation ends. You have Sony with streaming and VR versus Microsoft with Cloud computing and I think the kinds of boxes (and what they do for gaming) is going to be different than what we have right now. Which is the "future" of gaming? Heck if I know, but with all this money being thrown around they (Both Sony and Microsoft) are likely to try one last box.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Well, someone ask EviLore / the admins if we could get a [membersonly] [/membersonly] code that only makes certain dialog show up when a Member (or a permanently Juniored member) sees it.

This is an interim solution.

Yeah, the [membersonly] code should be the long-term solution. The current solution, in the long run, would certainly raise some flags if it goes on for way too much time. I mean, all caps posts could become suspect after a while for NPD ninjas who try to catch any kind of leak on the Internet :p

He is right, though. Of course, people only focus on the more flammable predictions.

Since this NPD is over, what is it looking like for this month for both Xbox and PS4? Anything big coming out to reproduce similar sales on the PS4, or better sales on the Xbox?

Not really, this is a multiplatform month. IIRC Driveclub is the only high-profile exclusive and I don't see that make a massive difference. If I was to guess I would say the PS4 will be around 250k next month and the XB1 will do roughly 190k

I'm expecting a "trade your 360" type deal to come into play prior to MCC release.

Something like $249-299 for XBO MCC bundle.
Might move a few consoles. Maybe.

That's a real hard sell when there isn't backwards compatibility.
You're asking people to have no way to play their 8 years of games they've bought, including digital purchases that will simply vanish.

The XB1 is getting the White console bundle with Sunset overdrive this month. It will likely push some sales but probably not enough to outsell PS4 for the month. There's also Forza Horizon 2 which by all accounts is not selling much at all so far despite critical and consumer acclaim (I'm guessing XB1 will be ~ 325k). It's also been stated by various retail insiders that the Destiny PS4 bundle is still selling well this month And there's the DriveClub release (as disastrous as it has been it is apparently selling higher than initial projections). PS4 is not selling as well as September but it's still selling well so the PS4 numbers should still be pretty respectable (I'm guessing PS4 ~390k). But only time will tell for sure.

Can someone explain to me why Forza Horizon is considered a niche game and do we have LTD numbers for Need for Speed Rivals and Most Wanted.

120K sounds low to me but I never considered open world racing games to be niche.

I think the reasoning is that the people who leak things aren't members and therefore wouldn't be able to quote anything even if they were privy to it

Did Patcher just called a idiot a person who just reported the probable only interesting number in his predictions?

Pachter's monthly previews do contain a lot of different estimates/forecasts, and we tend to focus solely on the hardware ones. (Although, this would presumably throw off his hardware revenue forecasts a lot...)

At the same time, that prediction was just so glaringly at odds with reality that he really should have known better. The Destiny bundle alone sold more than his PS4 forecast, which his forecast seemed to ignore entirely or assume that all regular sales would be replaced with.

This far into the thread and people still don't even read the OP.

This far into the thread people are still quick to pull out the asterisk even though people know digital sales and Sony's bundled sales were not counted.

Considering the marketing campaign, extra content, the lack of any advertising for it on the Xbox one it's still impressive.

Woke up, caught up from where I left off and I must say, AMAZING THREAD! Easily my 2nd favorite after March's NPD. Now my life's empty now for the next month...

Also, EVERYONE ON THIS THREAD IS DRUNK!

That's not what he said. That's never what these people are saying.

Sure, it's impressive, but it is not how they're reading it. It is not more than the PS4. By starting (or continuing) the discussion with that, they're essentially derailing it before it even begins.

Oh my god...

Dude, it's not complicated. PS4 is selling because it has the games people want to play. It was also $100 cheaper than the competition. People buying ps4's leads to more people buying ps4's because of friends effect. That's all there is to it. It's not because of DRM. It's not because Mark Cerny got on stage.

You guys get so caught up in exclusives because of your childish console wars. The reality is that the typical consumer doesn't care if a game is third party or first party or exclusive or multiplatform. Those are terms that literally don't enter their consciousness. They buy systems for the games they want to play. Those games are COD, BF, GTA, AC, etc, etc. You know, the stuff that actually SELLS. It's not Knack. It's not Ryse. It's not Killzone. It's not Dead Rising or Killer Instict. And it's not going to be Sunset Overdrive or the Order. Most people don't even know what these things are so they're not buying systems for them.

You can respond if you want but I have no interest in reading your reply because I already know it will be complete irrational nonsense. Have a nice day.

plus is still plays games better, which is important to... gamers.

Question is how much cheaper does XB1 have to be for people to overlook its deficiencies... right now it is $50 cheaper in deals and bundles and it is still not helping. And lets keep in mind that it is likely more expensive to produce as well.

Really a no-win situation for Microsoft.

If software and hardware sales differences continue to grow at these rates, it is going to be harder and harder to come back.

We need something like that. The current system of the last 10 pages being full of "nonsense" is not going to work in the long run.

Finally catching up with all the info posted here. What a great month for PS4, that beautiful white bundle payed off.

SSB on 3ds sold well, but if you compare it with MK8 for example could have been better (given the bigger install base). And 3ds is dead until the new one hits.

Wii U is in intensive care, still having some pulse. Unexpectedly good numbers for Hyrule Warriors and well deserved.

I'm curious how big the decrease for software will be for October compared to September and if GTA on PS4/Xbone will sell more than Destiny.

That's not how it works, Pachter. Just because you have 39 accurate predictions doesn't mean people can't question why your 1 wrong prediction was completely out-of-whack with the details that we can find out with something we call Google search.

I think SSB sold a bit less than expected because many people held off for the Wii U version due to control issues. I think we can expect 1 million Wii U Smash sales.

With the Sunset Overdrive bundle coming soon, I honestly expect Xbone to win for October. Pre-orders have been fairly ok.

And I like the new e-mail tags system, even if it's a little bit of pain in the ass on mobile. The next NPD threads could be very fun because of it.

Obligatory pointing out that what Pachter says for free on twitter or to games journalists looking for clicks is almost certainly not what he says in private to clients who pay him.
