NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 to have 24GB GDDR6X VRAM, RTX 3080 10GB VRAM

What could you possibly need that power for? A 2080TI is more than enough to handle any game out today.

At 4K?

My 2080 TI is struggling in a lot of games actually.

Also, the LG C9, which I game on, is capable of 120Hz, but I'm locked at 60Hz because the RTX 2080 TI doesn't have HDMI 2.1

Only 3 days away for the announcement :goog_smile_face_eyes:

Hoping pre-orders go up the same day, was able to get a GPU at launch the last 3 launches.

I don't get it. You have 1500 USD for a GPU, but not 250 USD for a proper new case and 2 hours of your time to move the parts into the new case? Wth?
I have the money for it, but I don't want to buy a whole new case if don't have too. I have the Corsair Crystal 570X case for reference.

HDMI 2.1 unlocks the 4K 60 FPS cap on my LG C9, so I might upgrade to a 3080 from an RTX 2080 TI just for that. I really want the 3090, but it's beginning to look like a 700 watt PSU won't cut it.
Im thinking the same thing. No way I will upgrade to a 3090 though.

of course it depends on how much the 2080 Ti will go for and how much the 3080 will cost.

If the fancy upscaling can reconstruct detail from the native resolution image...
Amazing stuff.
Gets even better when the same people also add that newer and even cooler upscaling is "game agnostic" and later "figure" current one is game agnostic.

I write it off to green reality distortion field.

In real world:
1) "AI upscaling" is known for a looooong time
2) There is nothing magical about it, the more aggressive you get, the more aggressive artifacts will pop up
3) People overestimate own ability to distinguish between "true" resolutions

As with any buzzwordy hype, BS repeated many times (e.g. that AI upscaling is being "trained" while playing game, Turing is that great, ya know) increases FUD levels and seems to even add to the hype.

No, it's still upscaling. "4k DLSS" is a naive way to refer to "AI upscaled 4k".

just give me complete working games that do not require updates for the next 12 months, with low latency net code for good mutiplayer

and games should only be allowed to be labeled as 4k or even 1080p only if they at the very minimum run 60fps

Right, but the claim I am addressing is not whether Nvidia invented the technology, or whether it is a gift from God, or whether it is going to cure world hunger. But rather whether it is useful tool for trading image quality for performance. Based on what Alex said in the DF videos, the artifacts are visible when you zoom into sections of the screen, but at normal viewing distances are very hard to spot. Even if the image quality is degraded however, you are gaining a large amount of performance in return, so if you are at the 30 FPS or 60 FPS threshold, enabling DLSS could allow keep you to keep higher quality settings and still maintain acceptable framerates.

It's not clear to me why you would not want this option, whether it's being provided by AMD or Nvidia. The fact that there is so much research behind it, is surely a reason to get more, not less excited. I mean just look at the images in this paper, and tell me that the A.I algorithm is not adding anything useful:

So if the price rumours are accurate at $800 and $1400 USD, and based on Nvidia's current GPU pricing vs exchange rate, I expect the 3080 Founders will be $1049.99 CAD and the 3090 will be 1849.99 CAD. Tack on their $52 for shipping to Canada and you're looking at $2150 all in for the 3090 and $1245 for the 3080.

Might just stick with the 2080ti for a while in my new build. Maybe wait four 3080ti or something with a pulse from amd?

Paying 2K for a GPU... just to play console ports and Fortnite.
This is kinda the reality. I paid 1200 for my video card a few years ago and yeah I play some games every now and then, but the reality is they are usually console ports. Then I spend the rest of my time in DOTA2.

I'm ready for Tuesday!

One more job for me and I'll be ready to go.

Very interesting! I'm going to have to be early about pre-ordering 3090.

If MLIS is right, I'd say a 3080 with 20GB is way more attractive when it comes to Price/Perf-ratio and by the sound of it, if 3090 is really that heavily limited, could even end up being the better deal if you don't have to wait possibly months for your order. I'm kinda leaning towards the 3090 though myself. I think I'll wait for the AIB versions of it though. A hybrid cooling solution would be awesome to have.

How soon do you think EVGA will release its versions of the 3090?

With ampere i honestly have no idea. On the one hand, we're having so few leaks one might think it's going to be a paper launch but at the same time some AIBs are already holding raffles and the sorts which would indicate a real product launch.

That said, if a 3090 really is that much of a beast, both in performance and heat generation, I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of AIBs will oft to have at least one hybrid solution early on to keep those Temps in check. I could see them already be available as soon as first October week but in all honesty, I'm just guessing as much as you do.

I hope we'll find out on the 1st though.

I ask because EVGA is the brand of my first and second (current) Nvidia cards, the 980Ti and 1080Ti. I've come to like the aesthetics of their cards; I want my 3090 to have the illuminated EVGA logo and the name of the GPU, just like my 980Ti and 1080Ti.

Yeah, let's consider stuff like "ray tracing",which % of games supports it, or, which % of games needs it, to look great:

Looks like 0 (zero, null).

Saying "but dlss" is basically saying "but fancy upscaling".

We have exactly zero RTX Titan owners in this thread, the "the best infrastructure" song is clearly not yours.

I agree that ray tracing is currently (ie at this very moment in time) irrelevant but I think we'll see a change once the consoles (that both support ray tracing on some fundamental level) are released.

As for DLSS, until you show me something comparable (in performance and image quality) from AMD then it is worth talking about. It's not just fancy image sharpening like AMD's currently is.

I have been thinking about the GPUs pricing (that /r/hardware post regarding Turing pushed me even further about skipping this gen)

I don't like the 10GB idea and it seems like the 3080 is basically a 2080 Ti, I don't know honestly my 2070 OCed is doing just fine at 3440x1440@100hz for World of Warcraft and CIV VI at the end of the day.

PS5 coming along with 16GB with 14GB for games at 499$ for me is a better price for this year alone. I might think better about this but sounds like I'm going with the PS5 this fall especially with the crazy games I wanna play.

I'll be watching over this thread but this gen seems like a SUPER bait for later on in the year or next one.

I think there is your answer. If you have a 2070 you probably don't need to upgrade. Plus, if you're mainly playing WoW and CIV VI then you absolutely do not need to upgrade.

Becoming increasingly agitated with this guy's channel. He seems to be padding the videos out more and more with filler bullshit:

- going off on tangents
- saying he knows X, Y, Z, A, B, C but "I can't talk about it, what I will say is" [insert bullshit catch-all statement].

That latest video only had about 5 minutes of useful information at the end. The rest of it was filler bullshit.

Also, those 'podcasts' are mostly garbage to the point I've stopped watching them unless he has a guest. His brother never adds anything of value aside from "Yeah I agree, I have nothing to add to that" - why is he even on there then?

I'm sounding like a demanding customer complaining about free content but yeah it's a shame because he started off great.

only just becoming?

most of these 'insider' YT'ers are just recycling and padding rumors.
Thanks for your click$views

They are a waste of time

So with regards to AIBs.. is it the consensus here that EVGA and Gigabyte are the best options? Other recommendations?
Wait for reviews. Sometimes vendors have a shit generation. Especially if heat is a big factor like this time around it will show which AIB gets it right and which fail at the task.

I'm hoping the nvcache rumours are true, even though I have my doubts. Else this will be a very difficult decision to make.

Currently running 3950x/2080 Super with one 4k monitor but want to go with a three 4k monitor/tv setup for FS2020. Waiting for benchmarks to see if the new cards can make my dream a reality :messenger_beaming:

That is quite a setup you have there. The RTX 3090 won't have 3x the performance of the 2080, but if there is any card out there to be able to handle that beastly setup than it sure is an NVLINK RTX 3090 setup with a 1500W PSU. Is NVLINK/SLI 3090 even still possible?
But my bet is the 3090 is like 80-90% better performancewise than the RTX 2080

With all this talk of the etc 3070/80/90, any idea when and will release their new sets of CPU's, or is it safer to go intel? Or even the AMD CPU's out now? Doing a full rebuild and waiting for these new cards is pretty exciting for me!

Looks like LATE LATE 2020 for both AMD and Intel (I think it is Vermeer 4000 series for AMD and Rocket Lake 11000 Series for Intel). Might even be first half of 2021 for Intel. Nothing concrete yet. AMD repeatedly confirmed that Zen 3 is coming out this year though, but could be december.

That are the latest rumors I've heard

AMD CPU's released now are still damn fine though, yeah? Wouldn't bottleneck an rtx 3080/3090?

I am currently rocking a Zen 2 Ryzen 7 3700X with my overclocked RTX 2080 and it runs damn well. I haven't had any troubles so far in any game at 1440p 144hz.

If you can wait go with the Zen 3 4000 CPUs which are probably another 15% better than the Zen 2 CPUs.

Also I don't really like talking about bottlenecks that much, because it depends too much on games. There are games that bottleneck every CPU out there because of the nature of the game, but most modern AAA games are always running the GPU at max load before they run into any other bottleneck. Especially at 4K the GPUs are not good enough and won't be for a long while.

Additionally it has to be said that the differences between the high end CPUs (both from AMD and Intel) are not that big, and also depend on games. In some games the Intel CPUs are 10% better and then there are games like Troy where the 16 core AMD 3950X is 30% better than the best Intel CPU.
All of the high end CPUs 3700X/3800X(T)/3900X/3950X/9900K/10900K are good enough and won't be a bottleneck for any graphics card and the performance will only go up with the 4700X-4950X and 11900K.

Bottleneck as always depends on game & targer res+fps. You're not exactly going to be limited from reaching a 60/120fps cap, but going for 240? Probably. And we also don't know how PCIe 4.0 changes things with the upcoming cards, maybe Intel will be the one bottlenecked by that omission. In short, bench for waitmarks.
