I'm gonna play Cyberpunk with it, wish me luck! I'll probably replace it with a 3060 next year though, can't believe I've had this GPU 4 years!
It will be just fine. Heck if you use a gsync panel with it. Play with the settings.. it’s hilarious how much you can squeeze out of it🙃

Absolutely disgraceful.

The guy who paid for the card earned his money legitimately and can buy whatever he wants.

It’s not for you to tell someone how they should or shouldn’t spend their money, and you certainly aren’t entitled to call them ‘disgraceful’.

The person who bought the card is selling it for a profit because that’s what anyone would do if they had something of value and wanted to sell it - please don’t tell us that when you sell things you don’t try to maximize your profits.

if you buy a house for half a million dollars, and then turn around and sell it for a million, you’ve just made a good deal. There’s no difference whatsoever between houses and gpus and toothpicks or anything else. This all about market forces.

What’s disgraceful here is you calling other people disgraceful for something that’s not disgraceful.

*snort* Market Forces?

That kind of selfish wankery caused 2008. You might as well swish around in a Porsche flashing the cash and shouting 'loadddsamonehhhh'.

Bet you're just the type to read New Yorker decrying all the Trump voters while looking at ads for $5m condos.

Any decent twitter accounts that might show when stock is in? Still hoping for an FE from best buy but haven't heard about them getting anything at all since launch.

Hold your nose, but I think the other side runs a discord that monitors stock for just what you're after.

Wow what a messy launch. My experience from Germany regarding the 3080. Long story, sorry for that.

On launch second, I tried to buy an MSI 3080 Gaming X Trio on proshop.de and of course the site crashed. They had 15 cards in stock. But I slowly made progress and was able to successfully order the card. Got a confirmation mail, delivery on September 21nd. Of course charged me directly. Then two days later, received an email, that the card is currently unavailable. They send out emails from their marketing, explaining that they're sorry, thousands of orders came in and more made it through than stock was available.
Next day, I asked them when the next stock will come in and how many people are ahead of me, so I can decide if I'll cancel it or not, because they already charged me 840 euros. They answered that stock will be available in November, but they don't know how much. And that they can't tell me any numbers, just that I'm in the "midfield". No answer to my question if it's midfield of 2000 or 50 orders. So I canceled the order.

But because I've already got a sense that nothing will be available for real, I kept looking the whole time. Found a Gainward Phoenix GS on a smaller shop on September 18th. 829 Euro, available on October 22nd. So I also ordered this one as a backup plan. Asked them if the delivery date is at risk.
Received an email shortly after that they don't know how many cards will come in and when they'll be available. Still keeping this order because I didn't get charged yet.

Two days after launch, Conrad.de had the Gigabyte Gaming OC for 899 euro, delivery on the 29th of September. So I also bought that one, got charged directly as well. On September 22nd, I received an email, that it got delayed to October 8th. Which was fine with me, ok.
On September 24th, I received an email, that the order is postponed indefinitely. They don't know when these cards will be available again and how many it'll be. I asked them if it'll be November, December or January. Would be nice to know, because they have 899 Euro from me. No answer.
Keeping this order for now.

Also on September 24th, jsc-pc.de had a Gainward Phoenix GS for 829 Euro, delivery inside one week. I bought it, got charged directly. Received confirmation and all.
Next day, they cancelled my order, saying they're sorry. They don't know when the cards will be available and how many.
BUT now have the same card listed for 930 Euro, so 100 bucks more, for preorder. I see what you did there. Currently waiting for my money back.

Now I again pre-ordered another Gainward Phoenix GS on a store that said stock will be available soon, just because it offers the Watchdogs Legion bundle while the others don't and it is the cheapest I've seen this card so far.

That means I have the Gigabyte Gaming OC and two Gainwards in the pipeline, all without any info on availability. Great. Will have to see which one will be actually available in the next months, if any.

TL:dr
Shops took my orders and money, said the cards are available during the purchase. After a couple days, they said they have no idea when stock will be available. Another shop cancelled my order to increase the price by 100 Euro.

I don't want this crap anymore. I stopped looking for cards now and will just wait. Of course I really want a card as fast as possible because my 1080ti is showing its age and I want that RTX. But the prices in most shops have already significantly increased. Cheapest MSI Gaming X Trio is listed at 899, while it was 829 before. Other prices are way higher.

A lot of very bad and unprofessional online retailers out there.

So I've preordered a 3080 (Aorus Xtreme) and I currently play on my LG OLED B7 which supports 4K/60. I mainly play single player games that are pretty demanding so would it be worth me upgrading to one of the newer LG TVs to get 4K/120, VRR and g-sync? How much difference would I actually notice if most of the games I play aren't going to be hitting near 120fps? I'd have to upgrade my receiver too so it would be a pretty substantial outlay.

"Without hardware acceleration, this work could have been done in the shaders, but would have consumed over 13 TFLOPs alone," says Andrew Goossen. "For the Series X, this work is offloaded onto dedicated hardware and the shader can continue to run in parallel with full performance. In other words, Series X can effectively tap the equivalent of well over 25 TFLOPs of performance while ray tracing."

I'm not so sure about those cores though. I see no individual RT cores. Not like Nvidia.

Look at Ampere - for every SMU, there is a separate piece of hardware for the RT core.

If you have a CU in the XSX using RT, it can't be used for shader computation. RTX can as the hardware is separate from the actual SMUs.

There was obviously a higher power watching over me on launch day (and any subsequent day when I've checked stock) preventing me from buying one of these cards.

It would have been an absolute nightmare for me from a warranty perspective considering I always tend to buy my PC parts from overseas (the mark up in my country from local companies is INSANE, 30-50% on average, even when taking into account international shipping and customs).

2070 Super I will hold you dear until I find a worthy replacement.

Hopefully Nvidia can get the AIB's straightened out ASAP. They need to be more strict with them. That's 2 new series launches in a row now where they've fucked up.

Exactly how I feel. Got the trusty and faithful 1080ti still working like a champion in the prime of it's life. I can wait, I'm not so stressed to upgrade all things considered.

Why not link to the actual CU diagram?

The fixed function accelerator is built into the TMU, inside each CU.

If you have a CU in the XSX using RT, it can't be used for shader computation. RTX can as the hardware is separate from the actual SMUs.
That's the opposite of what is stated in my quote. The shader ALUs can do work while the intersection engine is performing the ray-triangle intersection tests, since they are separate units within the CU.

I'm actually ashamed to think that I momentarily panicked and thought about selling off my 2070S the moment the 3080 was officially announced and before the launch.

What a disaster that would have been. I think I would have said fuck it and gone back out and bought another 20 series card by now :messenger_tears_of_joy:

It seems like AMD might be going with some kind of hybrid RT implementation instead of a dedicated solution. Maybe that might give better flexibility, in games where you want high RT performance but don't need much rasterization power, like low resolution RT gaming possibly.

RDNA2 RT sampling is colocated with tex units.
I.e. you either sample from texture or from BVH.
NV RT cores sit between L2 and tex units.
Which means they sample both textures and BVH and either pass to shader or tex unit.
I don't see anything inherently better in both solutions.

DXR does not support any "hybrid" solution though, AFAIR.
You cannot stop hit shader mid-way.

I'm not a tech expert, but I believe that each CU in RDNA2 has specific hardware for ray tracing so that it can execute rasterization and ray tracing without having to compromise either; also, just like Nvidia's Turing and Ampere architectures, RDNA2 will use BVH (Bounding Volume Hierarchy) to locate the intersections of rays and triangles.

jow wtf is this shit?

Jacob Freeman, the Global Product Management Director for EVGA, has made a statement about this issue on the EVGA Forums (Link).

EVGA_JacobF said:
Hi all,

Recently there has been some discussion about the EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 series.

During our mass production QC testing we discovered a full 6 POSCAPs solution cannot pass the real world applications testing. It took almost a week of R&D effort to find the cause and reduce the POSCAPs to 4 and add 20 MLCC caps prior to shipping production boards, this is why the EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3 series was delayed at launch. There were no 6 POSCAP production EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3 boards shipped.

But, due to the time crunch, some of the reviewers were sent a pre-production version with 6 POSCAP’s, we are working with those reviewers directly to replace their boards with production versions.
EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 XC3 series with 5 POSCAPs + 10 MLCC solution is matched with the XC3 spec without issues.

Also note that we have updated the product pictures at EVGA.com to reflect the production components that shipped to gamers and enthusiasts since day 1 of product launch.
Once you receive the card you can compare for yourself, EVGA stands behind its products!

Thanks
EVGA

This is why I will always advocate for EVGA, always quick to respond and clarify things whenever there is an issue.
They have been fantastic to me. I once had one of the Titan Cards and I was putting on a Water Block I broke something (screwdriver slipped). Called EVGA and emailed Jacob and within 5 days I had a new card no issues. Even told them upfront what i did by accident and they had ZERO issues replacing the card. We are talking a $1400 Titan that they just replaced and actually sent me before I sent the broken one back. Amazing customer service and warranty. Also love that the warranty is transferable which makes selling your Evga card to someone else adds some value to the person buying it.

Lol and EVGA just called in to Steve during the gamers nexus livestream.

These guys don't mess around.

EVGA FTW3 was the gpu I sincerely wanted all the way up till launch. I ended up snagging a couple of the founder editions and early today when this started breaking I was happy with the ones I purchased. Now seeing EVGA respond and essentially say our gpus are fine and the problem was fixed before production it makes me now want to seek and find a FTW3, but not sure I really want to go through the hassle of f5'ing day and night.

Why would Asus put six expensive MLCC arrays on their cheapest card (TUF) if two is enough to stop ESDs from happening?

You're disgraceful as well, for defending a practice that inconveniences people who want to use these cards for their intended purposes rather than buy them solely to sell them for profit. How dare you consider yourself a gamer even though you're defending a practice that inconveniences gamers and is currently inconveniencing thousands of gamers; by condoning VFXVeteran's actions, you're betraying your gaming brethren. Shame on you and darn you...darn you to Hades.

So I take it you argue by attacking people rather than their ideas?

Nice.

Anyway.... to re-state my case.... when someone has an item of value that others want, that person has the opportunity to sell that item for a profit. 99% of the time this is completely ethical. I, personally, would draw the line at somebody attempting to profit from the re-sale of PPE meant for frontline healthcare workers.... but in this case we’re talking about electronics meant for gaming, which is clearly not the same thing as PPE.

But whether it’s electronics or cars or houses - there are literally millions of items that a person can buy, and then flip for a profit. Sorry to inform you of this, but this is how the world works.

When Mick Jagger attends The World Cup Final we know damned well how he got the ticket. Likely someone bought a ticket by winning a lottery and then sold the ticket for a large profit to a ticket broker. Likely one of Mr. Jagger’s employees then purchased the ticket for an outrageous sum from the broker. That’s just how it works.

Dude, only a complete douchebag would say, “Oh that fucker Mick Jagger is betraying true football enthusiasts by purchasing that ticket.”

Well, actually, maybe Mick Jagger IS a huge football enthusiast - just because he has money and can pay a lot for something that’s highly valued doesn’t mean he’s a douchebag.

Who cares if VXVeteran paid more for a 3090 than you or many others were willing to pay - clearly he wanted the card more and had the means to pay for it. Calling him names and getting angry about it is childish. Anyhow, I suspect that VXVeteran, even as he’s reading this right now, is doing so with a massive grin on his face.

Why? - because he has a 3090 and you don’t.

People buy these cards based on specs these companies provide.

It's clear it can't deal with it because of hardware issues. So either these cards need to recalled and refunds need to be possible.

Jay is biased as fuck here and tries to damage control it, because he clearly has interest in this manner by keeping his supply chain happy.

Also wtf is that hole in the back plate lol, why not cover it up completely.
