NYT now has the email to Donald Trump Jr. offering Russian aid to "incriminate"

Reminds me of something that happened at work with an underling.

I created a trouble ticket for testing purposes and wrote 'This ticket is for testing, please ignore this ticket'. He wrote 'Ticket ignored' on it, and then closed the ticket.

Definitely. There's still the distinction possible that Trump Jr. posted the emails and basically admitted to having criminal intentions because the contents of the meeting is actually much worse than just discussing "russian adoptions"..

Trump made his first tweet about Clinton's 33.000 missing emails 10 minutes after the meeting was over and told his followers he had something big on Clinton the same evening. Early next week Wikileaks tweet they have gotten ahold of Clintons emails. A couple of days later they start releasing them in batches.

To me that sounds like Trump Jr + Kuskner and Manafort delivered whatever Clinton info they got from the russian lawyer directly to Trump after the meeting. He promtly tweeted about it and then probably gave his blessing to inform the russians that they should go ahead and releasing the info through Wikileaks.

It's also likely in this scenario that Trump Jr. directed Russia as to when to release the emails.

And if this was coordinated, it's also possible that the Podesta email dumps were coordinated as well. It's not a coincidence that the first Podesta emails came out right after the Access Hollywood tape.

All this just leads us further and further down the rabbit hole. I have little doubt there was coordination. The only question is who, when, and how.

I feel like I'm in a weird position sometimes just in that I recognize that these kinds of stories absolutely are a big deal and help to build the case against Trump, but also recognize that this is a slow, arduous process that won't yield the desired results quickly, and may never pay off completely.
Pays to be realistic, I think.

In the court of public (Trump supporter) opinion this story is nothing - they all think all politicians are dodgy anyway, so this is just 'playing the game' even if it's a foreign power involved. In the context of Trump being ejected to a loss of support from his base, I believe this'll do absolutely nothing to alter his popularity.

I do wonder how much of this is centred around opportunities for him to expand into Russia. I wouldn't put it past him to work on lowering sanctions to open more ventures there and sell out the American democratic process doing it. If he was forced to comment he'd probably just say he was being 'smart' and trying to enable more opportunities for American business or something disingenuous.

edit : and there it is, lol. Rampant self interest , US be damned.

That's not what it says. She denied meeting him at Russian officials’ behest.

She hasn't been saying she didn't meet. She said she didn't meet on the orders of the Russian government, which... well... even if that realistically mattered in the stupidity of what Don Jr. did, why the fuck would we believe that? The official line from the Russian government is that they totally didn't hack our election even though they absolutely did.

Just on MSNBC, that the Trump Tower project in Russia wasn't dropped because Trump ran for president, but because of an economic downturn caused by sanctions placed upon Russia by the US. That's according to an interview earlier this year with Rob Goldstone.

Didn't catch which publication, but will try to hunt down a link.
Found a link.

Yahoo News (Michael Isikoff) : New details emerge on Moscow real estate deal that led to the Trump-Kremlin alliance

While in Moscow for the Miss Universe pageant in November 2013, Donald Trump entered into a formal business deal with Aras Agalarov, a Russian oligarch close to Vladimir Putin, to construct a Trump Tower in the Russian capital. He later assigned his son, Donald Trump Jr., to oversee the project, according to Rob Goldstone, the British publicist who arranged the controversial 2016 meeting between the younger Trump and a Kremlin-linked lawyer.

Trump has dismissed the idea he had any business deals in Russia, saying at one point last October, ”I have nothing to do with Russia."

But Goldstone's account, provided in an extensive interview in March in New York, offers new details of the proposed Trump project that appears to have been further along than most previous reports have suggested, and even included a trip by Ivanka Trump to Moscow to identify potential sites.

According to the publicist, the project — structured as a licensing deal in which Agalarov would build the tower with Trump's name on it — was only abandoned after the Russian economy floundered. The economic downturn resulted in part from sanctions imposed by the U.S. and the European Union following Russia's intervention in Ukraine.

Goldstone's version of events implies a possible explanation for Trump's interest in lifting sanctions on Russia — a policy move his administration quietly pursued in its first few weeks until it ran into strong opposition from members of Congress and officials within the State Department.

Goldstone placed Donald Trump Jr. at the center of the Trump Tower deal, saying that his father assigned his eldest son the job of moving the project to fruition after the signing of a ”letter of intent" between the Trump Organization and Agalarov's company, the Crocus Group.

Was just reading an article on CNN about this and saw this excerpt. I swear, I just don't understand how people in this position can be so delusional...

Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah described Trump Jr. as "a very bright young man," but not a member of his father's administration. He responded to Kaine's accusations of treason with, "You got to be kidding."
"He's not in the administration," Hatch said. "He may be the son of the president but he doesn't have the authority to speak for the president. Look, I think this is overblown."

The linked article has a video of Sen. Kaine saying it's 'possible' that this could lead to treasonous charges.

Trump finally commented. Jr. is "a high-quality person" lol.

And from Forbes back in March:

Forbes Exclusive: Powerful Russian Partner Boasts Of Ongoing Access To Trump Family

In an exclusive interview with Forbes, Emin Agalarov—a Russian pop singer, real estate mogul and son of one of the country's richest people—described an ongoing relationship with the Trump family, including post-election contact with the president himself.

Among Agalarov's most striking claims: that he and his billionaire developer father, Aras, had plans to build a Trump Tower in Russia that would now likely be under construction had Trump not run for office; that he has maintained contact with the Trump family since the election and has exchanged messages with Donald Trump Jr. as recently as January; and that President Trump himself sent a handwritten note to the Agalarovs in November after they congratulated him on his victory.

”Now that he ran and was elected, he does not forget his friends," Agalarov says.

...

But the Agalarovs had their eyes set on a bigger target: a licensing partnership with the Trump Organization. ”We thought that building a Trump Tower next to an Agalarov tower—having the two big names—could be a really cool project to execute," Emin Agalarov recalls. He says that he and his father selected a parcel of land and signed a letter of intent with their counterparts in New York, but before negotiations could further develop Trump launched his campaign and the deal was sidelined. ”He ran for president, so we dropped the idea," Agalarov says. ”But if he hadn't run we would probably be in the construction phase today."

On Monday morning, following this article's initial publication, a spokesperson for the Trump Organization replied to an earlier request for comment. "The Trump Organization does not [have], and has never had, any properties in Russia, and the press' fascination with this narrative is both misleading and fabricated," she said.

So did Russia plan on the Trump family being this fucking stupid or are we just blessed
I'm not sure anyone could plan for a family being THIS fucking stupid... but then the Russians do know the Trumps better than anyone else. So they're probably the least surprised.

But I'm sure they're still surprised.

Let's hope we can go for the fourth one (ivanka).

That what could essentially be a crime syndicate decided it would be a good idea to put as much possible scrutiny and media attention on them as possible by becoming the ruling family is hilarious. Their ego and greed know no bounds.

Tillerson already has sketchy Russian connections himself, and Mnuchin defended Trump's suggestion of creating a joint cybersecurity thing with Russia... I think you'd have to go all the way down to Mattis at this point to find someone clean...
