If I got turned off by PSVR due to motion sickness (Driveclub) and resolution when using a regular PS4, was that due to the platform, or am I not VR compatible?

What exactly is so bad about $449 USD for Australia? Considering that the quoted $399 USD is without sales tax since it varies per state, and that you Aussies have a 10% GST tacked on, that's all of $10 difference from a straight conversion. Unless you're just not happy with the conversion rate from AUD to USD...
Nah, you're right, our GST is included. I'm still getting used to it, was living in Canada 3 months ago.

So what would adding a third sensor do exactly (and where would it be positioned)? The two sensors already work pretty well for my apartment

So there shouldn't be any games that support the Vive controller but not the Touch, right? Fukken bought if so.

Worth it even if I never use it for anything other than porn.

But everyone said they wouldn't support oculus because Luckey is an asshole.

He's left now. It's ok.

Hard to say. (Much?) less likely to cause motion sickness, but nothing will ever eliminate that completely, if you're prone.

I position 2 sensors at corners in front and my 3rd sensor behind me and to the right. (When I used 2 I had them in front left and behind right corners).

What it has helped with is when I have the touch controllers and headset all lined up in a row and aiming towards a sensor, such as taking a shot while looking down the sights with a rifle. It was virtually impossible to do this accurately when I had 2 sensors.

Similarly, pulling a bow to the side of my face works much better with 3 sensors.

Also helps with general obfuscation, because I do not have my sensors ceiling mounted yet.

I don't have anywhere to put a third sensor behind me so I guess I won't buy another, it needs to be connected to a computer right?

Two front sensors are fine for forward facing stuff. Nearly all Oculus games support this configuration by letting you use snap turning with the analog stick. If you turn around naturally you can occlude the Touch controllers with your body.

Two opposite facing sensors will give you 360, but the effective play area is limited by the distance the sensors will work properly. It works for about 1.5-2m (5-6 ft) square. You can still get some occlusion in the corners at the edges of each cameras FoV, but the deadzone should be small.

Three sensors in a triangle configuration should eliminate occlusion almost entirely and let you get a play area up to around 3m square.

Yeah, I bought a USB extension when I set up my 2 sensor, but when you buy the extra sensor you get a free USB extension cord...

I bought a USB expansion card (mostly for babyproofing reasons, it's complicated), that card receives power direct from my PSU, and that slot is the only one powerful enough to consistently power the extension cord I bought. So that may be noteworthy if you choose to do this.

But everyone said they wouldn't support oculus because Luckey is an asshole.

I was against buying an Oculus product when Luckey was still a part of the company. But he's gone now, and it's obvious that he was not at all representative of the rest of the company. If Luckey WAS representative of Oculus/Facebook as a whole, then Facebook probably wouldn't offer every gender option under the sun in order to be as inclusive as possible.

I hope you appreciate the irony of pretending to care about 'inclusiveness' in the same breath you advocate boycotting an entire company because its tech-genius leader made the grave, fatal mistake of not supporting your political candidate of choice. I can have any viewpoint I want -- so long as it's yours! Ah, liberals who don't understand what liberalism is.

I will say three Rift sensors work great and Racket NX is a blast if you have friends with VR. Holopoint also works great with three sensors on Rift.

Picked one up earlier today and I'm loving it. During the First Contact demo I couldn't stop smiling and laughing at how ridiculously fun it is just to be in a different environment throwing stuff around. Immediately after it was finished I got two of my brothers and made them both try it. They felt the same. I played a bit of Robo Recall and I'm completely happy with my purchase. It reminds me of playing Wii Sports for the first time. It's a completely new experience and so much fun.

Not ever game will make you sick unless to u are really sensitive to motion sickness, and you will get uses to it the more you play. Some games are very comfortable. However I have a rfit and psvr and on my rift I get less sick. Not sure why it could be the games. Droveclub have been know to get people sick. Riggs made me really sick. US run the rift on a gtx 1080 BTW.

I think I am going to buy a third sensor for Robot Recall but I'm only going to be able to position it to my rear left, not all the way behind me. Hopefully it still makes a difference.

Oh and P.S. I played with the vive at VRLA a few months ago and it wasn't that much better than the rift in terms of visuals tbh

Plus wireless is available now as an option. And the new head mount with built in quality headphones.

Look, I'm just teasing. If you get the Rift, and later on want the Vive, you could probably recoup what you spent considering how big a discount this is.

Jump in, and don't feel regret. And make sure to join a quality VR forum a that you know what to buy (GAF kind of sucks for VR community stuff). I recommend the biggest Oculus or Vive Reddit ones.

Those controllers might not be out until late 2018 or 2019, they are still in the prototyping stage. Earliest would be March 2018 IMO, which is a ways off.

Also, do people really want wireless headsets at this early stage with the current limitations in technology? It would make the headset heavier, much hotter, likely a very short battery life, and will introduce some lag. A lag-free, long battery life headset, give me!
Thanks for the response, I'm totally excited. I'm sure that once I experience Robo Recall, which is basically what I'm buying this for, I'll flip out.

I have very fond memories of going to Chicago's Navy Pier with my Dad and playing Battletech back in the 90's. It was amazing, I've always been interested in VR and this is absolutely the right price.

Wait, do you need a 3rd sensor for Robo Recall?

Is the 3rd sensor just for room scale stuff? Normally I would be able to answer these things. I need to go dive into the subreddit tonight while in bed and just read read read.

So the bundle comes with two sensors? How essential is buying an extra sensor then especially if I have less than 1m of space behind me?

Probably not needed. You can position one in front corner and one in back if you want 360 with 2 sensors. If you position them both up front and up high facing down you can probably cover most use cases.

You don't need it but there's a blind spot when looking back and trying to get shotguns from your back

LEADER meaning THE MAIN REPRESENTATIVE

Why are you laying into someone for not buying a piece of plastic with a screen on it? Lol. People are allowed to choose what products they buy, that's called the free market. Can you cry somewhere else?

Setup my package from Best Buy, played half an hour of Robo Recall. I'm pretty sure I'm a bigger badass than John Wick now.

Edit: I always suspected I was a virtual badass, this is simply confirmation.

I'm not sure what you're talking about. I never said people can't buy or not buy what they want. People are allowed to do (almost) anything in this wonderful world. However, if they are going to do it for dumb reasons, and then alert everyone about their decision on an online message board, it seems bizarre to argue that they should be immune from criticism.

Hey everyone! I just ordered the bundle from bestbuy (Been waiting for VR for years!) and can confirm it is not offering financing. However about 20 minutes after my order I called the 1800 number on my Best Buy card and they moved it over to the 12 month no problem. Pull the trigger!

Now y'all should get Star Trek Bridge Crew, Echo Arena, The Climb and Wilson's Heart! :D

This may be asking a lot but can anybody post pics of their setups? I don't know that I have the space to accommodate this but I'm also strongly considering picking it up.

I'll try tonight if not Tomorrow. They requirements are 3 feet behind and to the sides I think but mine is 7 x 7

I'll look into these when I get home, I really want Rick and Morty even though I already saw the whole play through

I have a PSVR and don't use it much... I shouldn't buy it, right? Right. Please tell me I'm right.

I definitely shouldn't sell my PSVR (I would definitely be able to make enough to buy the Rift and some games here in Japan) for this, right?

Tempting, but I think I've resolved to stick with one headset until they find a way to make these wireless.

Bigots don't deserve inclusion. Sorry.

Echo Arena is free. Lone Echo, it's single player portion is coming out in a week or so.

I really recommend Echo Arena, Star Trek and The Climb as there's actually a bit of replayability there.

Wilson's Heart, Edge of Nowhere and Chronos are solid buy's with solid single player experiences. I would suggest Wilson's Heart from the get-go as Touch is handled really well in the game.

The other two can be waited on for a sale.

Don't mean to pimp my ride but y'all also take a look at "Guided Meditation VR." It's the app I worked on. :p

There's plenty of other solid games in the store that's not free. Elite and Dirt Rally are amazing if you guys have a HOTAS and a wheel respectively.

And I have to say, if you guys can find an Xbox One guitar or even a 360 guitar, please get Rock Band VR!! It will blow your minds guys!! Sooo good!!!

Tempted to buy Oculus Rift, for Elite Dangerous and Dirt mostly. I hope this is the right thread to ask some questions regarding Rift usage.

I have old Marantz SR5003 receiver with hdmi (hdmi 1.3 - 1080p/60fps) passthrough connected to my TV.
I would prefer to play Elite with my 5.1 surround sound instead of headphones and the game have this option (plays positional sound relative to cockpit, not to head).

1. Can I connect hdmi to my receiver and output 1080p 60fps picture on TV with sound through speakers while usind Rift through DisplayPort? Or DVI? In this case will TV work as a second monitor?

2. Can I connect all Rift usb connectors to one powered usb 3.0 hub?

3. Is there an easy way to setup spectator mode on TV/monitor?

Yes. Windows control panel will easily let you select your receiver as an audio source instead of your Rift headphones. Also just my 2 cents (that you totally didn't ask for), I really think headphones are about as important for VR as the headset itself. The positional audio makes a difference. Give it a shot.

Have not personally done this but some people in this thread seem to say it works.

3. Is there an easy way to setup spectator mode on TV/monitor?
Spectator mode should automatically run on your main display while you're in VR.

1) Yup. However, don't forget that VR headsets have microphones built into them and many games just use voice activation instead of push to talk. So be aware of that when you play multiplayer games so you don't cause echos with everyone you play with. Headphones is best due to that fact, and that headphones give you positional audio which is a significant immersion improvement over static speakers.

2) Generally, yes. If it's a PCI-E hub, chances are you should be okay (obviously if it's just a hub which plugs into a single USB port on the PC... no.). If you add a 3rd or 4th sensor into the mix you start entering dangerous territory of saturating the hub depending on a variety of factors. The Rift software will warn you if there are issues like this though (you'll see an exclamation mark next to the device which is having issues).

3) Just launch the game. What renders to the monitor/TV is the "spectator" mode. In most cases the VR view is only sent to the HMD. It's not a requirement though, but most games I've played just do this by default.

That amazon deal, Jesus! Effectively only $300 for the Rift and Touch. You'd think they were going out of business.

My hands don't touch it fully extended standing up, so I should probably be ok.

Yeah, should be fine.

My brother-in-law took out my lightbulb in my computer room with the Vive controller, showering my pc desk with shattered glass. So just be careful.

Does this require moving around? I don't have any space to move around. That Amazon deal is sooo tempting right now and I never thought I'd buy one until this deal happened.

All headphones I have used before literally give me pain in my ears after half an hour of using, that's why I hate them.

But I heard that stereo headphones are the best solution for VR positional sound and consider buying quality Sennheiser headphones with deep ear cups. Hope it will be comfortable for my ears.
