Are you saying just buy any lens and put them into the rift? I'm not sure that'll work.... These are lenses that replace the lenses in the unit, not on your frames.

Also I think the reason for the lenses is that many people have frames that are too large to comfortably fit within the rift.

Those lenses (which are hilariously expensive) go on top of the ones in the rift (obviously).

They also say bullshit like they HAVE to charge for lens thinners if your prescription is too high.

I said fuck it, went to Specsavers and bought a thin pair at -4.00 for £25. They fit perfectly.

In fact, if you get the anti-reflection things, you will get less godrays than people who don't have to wear glasses (tho, it only really affects logos and things).

I personally don't know why anyone would pay £60 premium to get lenses that are even more of a bitch to take out and clean.

Just measure your frames, if they are small enough, you're good.

Is this Amazon deal US only? Because otherwise I would complain.

Very tempting, awesome price.

Makes me wonder, is this a fire sale to clear inventory in case the Zenimax lawsuit would halt the sale of Rift?

Snap, hadn't thought of that. But isn't Zenimax vs Occulus mostly over for now? I thought they were going after another company now for VR related stuff.

BACK IN STOCK $399
Got one. Glad I stayed up watching old Babylon 5 episodes and F5-ing... the invoice afterwards is pretty goofy but it does say Deal of the Day and said $399 on the order screen so I think I'm good. I also ordered a bunch of other Prime Day crap though so I can hardly say I'm saving money, lol.

Ordered mine.

What cool things can it do besides games? I know about Google Earth VR, anything else?

There's lots of social apps, including ones where people can get together and share screens to collaborate, or watch movies, such as Bigscreen.

SoundStage is a unique and fun way to put music together.

Medium and Tilt Brush are different types of sculpting/painting programs. Painting in 3D in the air can be really fun, even if you're not that artistic.

There's a bunch of VR experiences that tell stories, with you right in the middle of it.

And porn.

Adult Entertainment was the coolest thing for me with the Gear VR. Haha. Perspective gets all f'ed up a bit, but it's still pretty neat.

You missed the summersale for most of these, they were all recommended during the sale. Outside of it, some of them are a bit pricey for what they deliver imo.

Universe Sandbox 2

Titans of Space 2

Discovering Space 2

Apollo 11 VR

Tilt Brush

Google Blocks

Titanic Honor and Glory Demo

Soundstage

Lyra VR

Kingspray Graffiti (Not sure why the VR symbols were removes here?)

Hindenburg VR (trashy graphics, still cool imo but you missed the summersale were even the price was more justifiable)

Bigscreen

Everest VR

the Blu

Magnificient Ships was on steam but removed by the author (was really overpriced though)

There is more

I don't wanna be that guy but how is video watching on this thing? Does it have a theater mode like other VR sets(Samsung)?

Not inbuilt, but just get yourself Virtual Desktop on it and you can both use your PC as normal in VR and jump directly into one of several theater modes to watch movies. It even lets you play proper VR movies in it. It's my preferred player simply because of its ease of use.

At £399 it seems like a price I would go in for but I've spent all I can spend this month (on gadgets and entertainment stuff) :(.

Hopefully I'll have enough next month and can pick it up before the 6 weeks are over.

Amazon deal got me. I was thinking about getting the Bestbuy deal for the bundle with Eve Valkyrie but the $100 gift card Amazon put up made the deal bonkers.

I can get a steam gift card and get a whole gang of games with $100.

So the question is: If you had $100 to spend on Steam what would you get (Please include VR titles)? VR high five for hitting $100 on the dot!

Whoa I'm watching videos about the virtual desktop and its wild. Thanks for the recommendation.

I'm not going to hit $100 on the dot, but at the least I'd suggest:

Job Simulator (it's a one-and-done game, unfortunately, but a blast, and often funny. Rick & Morty is sort of the sequel to this, but it's a lot more streamlined and less varied, I'd hold off on that.)

SoundStage, as I mentioned before, as a music-making application

Superhot VR I haven't gotten to try yet, and I've heard it's short, but people rave about it.

Space Pirate Trainer is a relatively simple, but satisfying, target shooter. It's very easy to pick up and play, really great for parties and events where people don't have a lot of time to get used to VR.

Bigscreen lets you use your PC while in VR, up to 4 people in the same "room". You can collaborate on projects, or watch movies or TV in the theaters, or just hang out. Apparently a big patch is just about to drop for it.

Rec Room is free, and has a lot of goofy activities to do with others, like paintball, going on fantasy quests, etc.

Instead of virtual desktop (which is a paid for app), I'd suggest downloading the Bigscreen beta which is free from the Oculus store and offers the same movie watching functionality. In any case, I think it's a cool thing to try, but the resolution of current headsets isn't good enough to make me want to watch an entire movie in VR.

Amazon $399 + $100 gift card bought... how can you say no to that!?!

Ok... Climbey will be played... The Climb... but what really excites me is this Pavlov (Counter Strike looking) game! How is it? I've seen the Node buys have a load of fun with it! Is Pavlov the best online, FPS experience right now?

So I bought this with the prime day deal just to lock it in, but I'm still deciding whether to keep it or cancel. I already own a PSVR and love it when I use it. What games/experiences does this thing have access too that I can't get with psvr that justify owning both.

Was lucky enough to get in on the Prime Day deal; psyched! Is an extra sensor needed for room scale? I have a small office where I probably have a 4x8 area to move around, would that be enough?

Nah, Onward is the best online fps right now. Pavlov is fun but it gets old fast in comparison (to me). I'll put it this way, I've put almost 200 hours into Onward, maybe 30 hours into Pavlov. The only problem with Onward is when you die you have to wait in a lobby. Normally waiting in a lobby is ok, but in VR it's terrible design, you can't do anything.

If Onward added a team deathmatch gametype, it would render Pavlov VR useless...but Pavlov has it right now and Onward doesn't, so they compliment eachother nicely.

Oh i had NO idea Onward was popular. I saw a few videos a while back but havent seen/heard anything about it since. The gameplay looked sooooo slooooow... and with having to sit in a lobby after death... yikes that doesn't sound fun at all. I'll def check both out.

I'd suggest just using home. Why add another layer (steamvr) when it's free, faster to launch on home and cross compatible with steam users?

I'm a Vive user, and so only use Home for the exclusive stuff. If you say home works flawlessly with Steam user interaction, then so be it.

But at some point, they are going to be using Steam anyway (or may do so already), and the new Steam VR Home absolutely demolishes the starting lobby Oculus provides.

I am certainly going off on a tangent, but even as a Rift owner, I'd probably stick with Steam's more comprehensive software and only use Home for the exclusives or perhaps single player stuff.

Bruh got this all setup last night. It's legit fantastic. Hopefully they sell out and we get more titles. Going to have a Oculus party soon.

Question. How do you display on your monitor what I'm seeing like when I tried the demos at Best Buy?

Yeah, for anything free it's usually better to just use the Oculus store. However
- If on Steam you don't have to use SteamVR if the Steam builds support the Oculus SDK directly. But yes, still not as easy as putting on headset and launching from Home.
- Though cross-platform, I'm not familiar with these apps. Do they use their respective stores to match up with friends or do they have their own account systems? If the former, it would make more sense to use Steam if more friends (or potential friends) are on it.

I still say using Steam and building on that makes more sense if you were already invested in the ecosystem. Ability to stream your friends game sessions, group chatting, the awesome Steam Home lobby, and then games that don't even make it to the Rift homestore (Fallout, Doom)...eh.

I'd say it's worth it for the extra step of pressing the launch button on your desktop before putting your headset on.

Personally I prefer Pavlov pretty much for the knocks on Onward you stated though I'd definitely say Onward is more polished. Plus Pavlov has Workshop support for maps now so you can play the Facility from Goldeneye, or Dust from CS, or Lockdown from Halo, or even that map from the new Unreal Tournament (among other things). It's really about preference though. Onward is the slower, methodical, more tactical, often long range shooter with little bursts of action. Pavlov is the faster, more carefree, often up close game with lots of action. Basically Onward is ARMA while Pavlov is Counter Strike.

With steam I know you can just mirror the view from your headset, but if I remember correctly games like Robo Recall actually just render on your main monitor.

How's locomotion handled in each game? Left analog movement with head tracking for turning etc.?

I got a little "cold-sweaty" when i owned PSVR trying to play RIGS. I "think" it was the constant drifting of controllers, weird head bobbing from the camera and overall body disconnect as a result that got me and not the movement.... or so i hope. I do keep hearing that Oculus is less likely to make me feel like that with the better tracking and stuff so lets hope!

Don't think I'll be grabbing this as I've already got the PSVR, but I am curious about a few things:

1. Will this 100% work with Steam? How difficult is it to make it work?

2. Does it come with a camera?

3. How far away do you have to sit away for it to properly track you?

4. How beefy does your PC need to be to run it?

5. How many cables does it require to attach to your PC?

I'm hoping it won't be too much longer until they create wireless headsets. The billion cables that the PSVR requires is probably my biggest pet peeve.
