As terrible as that may be (And i mean that in a geniune sense), i don't think that makes it right to take that thread as a whole and conclude that they aren't helping.

What is an indicator from these Little Helpers that makes you say they don't act in the best interests? Mind you, i am talking about the mental health thread, not what they say or do outside of that.

Honestly, there are far better places to go than Era for mental help. If you (general you, not specific to Red) are at a university, they usually offer free therapy and a place to talk to. It is a wonderful thing and greatly helped me when dealing with depression. It also didn't keep pushing this mindset of "everyone is out to get you" like Era seems so keen on pushing.

Perhaps we should cheer for the clock when it is right once. :)

I think forums can geniunely be of help, but i also do believe that you shouldn't have your whole personal character rely on them. A lot of the people at Reset going into these threads seem to be at their ends whim: They already see therapists, they already have medication. For them, ERA is just another outlet.

And that's all it is. Just another outlet. They treat it like it is their livesaver when often it is not. Seperate depression threads are sometimes made by people who feel very little empathy for anyone that ain't them. As such, it is hard to share empathy to these people: After all, just 5 minutes later they find a minority racist or something like that.

Its such a unnuanced narrative and character development going on, i don't feel Reset should encourage that, but subdue it instead.

Exactly, if you keep telling white people you're their enemy, at some point, those that aren't self-hating virtue signalers will believe you. Every other race look out for their own and form communities, but the second a white person looks out for another white person or says they want to live with other white people, they're basically a KKK member. I've never heard anybody say Chinatown needs more diversity, all these Chinese people shouldn't be allowed to live together and have their own neighborhood.

If we go back to my first post in this chain I was replying to somebody who suggested the member make a thread about their issues. Such a thread would inevitably be dominated by the people whose advice I would be most cautious of.

Perhaps they mean what they say; I still wouldn't turn to groups that are filled with such hatred for advice about mental health. I wasn't joking when I claimed they literally steered me in the opposite direction of what I needed to do to get my life back on track.

To be frank, I feel like they are breeding hatred towards white cis guys on purpose. The attitudes towards said group on the board are legitimately unhinged, and you can see them on display constantly. The self loathing (and the utter hatred and contempt from trans members) paint a gruesome picture to me. =/

It does seem that with each passing day, the intensity of those threads gets that much more...well...intense.

I doubt anything happens, but it does seem to feel different now.

Out of boredom, I browsed through a couple of threads over at resetera. It felt like slowly poisoning myself more and more with each new post I read. To each their own I guess, but why do these people do this to themselves? People are soooo passive agressive and mean over there. Say something even only slightly "controversial" and you are being dehumanized in an instant. This is not a place for civil discourse, this is an asylum.

There is this one guy, excel-something, who is insulting people left and right and mods do nothing. What is this even?

Being part of that community more or less is like deliberately asking to take a bath in hot goat shit. But like I said, live and let live.

I missed the times when people posted for interest purposes. I used to post a lot in a The Sims forum and it was happy and fun. Sharing content and whatnot.

Nowadays lotsa people post vitriolic, propaganda, and borderline antifa stuff.

Basically an epic asskissing backseat mod
Pretty sure he has no job or life outside of the forums as I could not even think of a way outside of using a bot you could make over 20k posts in a year....pretty sure he is on his last strike

I'm pretty sure Excel spends all day every day doing nothing but posting there. Every single one of those posts were written by them I'm sure.

I remember when she was "accidentally" banned for like 5 minutes and when she got back she talked about what a harrowing experience it was. Something about the world fading out and going into full blown panic mode.

I don't know if mentally she would survive a 1day/3day/week ban. Never mind a permanent one. That forum is literally some peoples entire identity.

Also there was a guy in the latest shooting thread who called for a ban on a member and called them inbred for liking guns. Of course he only got a warning for attacking a fellow member. The guy who said you should own guns will be banned next time he posts for a ridiculous reason of course.

Wouldn't worry about it too much. Reset's eventual collapse is not exactly a far-fetched premise. I have strategies prepared for most scenarios. We have a capable, experienced, hand-picked team that can adapt to rapidly evolving situations. XF2's tools are powerful, versatile, and logically oriented, and we've extended them with add-ons and customizations besides. Any attack vectors previously utilized will not prove fruitful if attempted again. Good fucking luck hurting my feelings or convincing me that NeoGAF should be more like fucking Resetera. :messenger_ghost:

That being said, if overflow or containment becomes a genuine concern, preferably don't hand the keys to another random imbecile. I'd rather maintain PurpleGAF myself as a public service just from a harm reduction standpoint. Christ.

Excel was the first user that made me understood to avoid any topic she would post in when she was still on GAF. And kept making my eyes roll so much too, she got more aggressive over the years I think.

I don't usually post in this thread , but i have to say. Anyone that confronts her directly on Era ends up with a ban almost 70% of the time. I think she moonlights as a mod and user. There's no other reason to why she can operate with total impunity

It sucks and I feel sorry for him but personally, he should seek help and steer off things that aggravate the negative emotion.

Not to generalize but sometimes I do see posts that are gloomy in RE and at the same time they're kinda tied to angry political stuff, anger towards other people's opinions, and anger towards... Anything in general. Of course it sucks to be depressed and anxious but won't it also help that they steer clear off those stuff because other people definitely have beliefs not matching to your own which can cause "issues" and political stuff you don't agree with and seek professional help?

Also, people consoling and trying to help in the forums is considered as professional help. Sure it's nice to hear they try to help you out but that's not enough.

Yes, I recall she was one of the most vocal people angry about any and every even borderline sensitive issue out there.

I don't think there's any "shagging" going around. I think when Reset was created they kinda chose to share power with people who are hyper passionate about social issues, and maybe out of solidarity and perhaps a bit of pity and semi-empathy gave it to those who were most vocal about their own issues and problems in the world.

In other words, the more crazy you would get when a social issue was brought up in old Neogaf, the more likely you were to get mod rights on Reset.

Actually it's simpler than that. It's big and popular so it's a perfect opportunity to push their agenda. If it was less popular they'd give fewer shits. The bigger target gets them the attention they crave.
 
Honestly Resetera is just a perfect example of how grievance and victimhood culture just further damages, already damaged people. Rather than take actual action to improve their situation, instead they impotently lash out at an "unfair" world and wallow in the injustice of it all.

A long time ago on this forum I wrote that being a geek/nerd whatever is not a badge of honor. Being around, and one of, that sort of social group growing up I realized that the "cool kids" most certainly didn't have a monopoly on being shit people. The important lesson being that regardless of what challenges you face socially, it does not reflect or absolve issues with your own character and outlook.

The problem with identitarianism, particularly in youth cultures, is that it provides an ideological escape-clause for this realization. Resetera is full of miserable people who are trapped in miserable situations and mindsets, but have the view that its always somebody else's fault and their weakness denotes their "special"-ness constantly reinforced to them.

Its a death-spiral.

I've resigned myself to not stating my opinions on certain topics there since I fear it would just result in me getting banned. No use in being sympathetic towards Senran Kagura or being happy about the character designs in Xenoblade 2.

It's funny they swapped maybe 3 hosts before going to the one they are on now, and even then that thing fucking sucks. They praised having a Google Employee, Amazon, and MS Employee, but as far as I remember they all dropped ship after the site came up, or at least one stayed.

But gotta love how their site is down so much regardless of this "experience", but I'm gonna guarantee these fucking people are low level interns.

I by myself could do a better job keeping the site up, and maintaining it.
