Yeah, it has been really close lately. Which is why I lost all interest I had in this game. I really don't want to support games with borderline pornography in it :p

Thankfully Killer Instinct exists. Even with a few fanservicey outfits, there is nothing grotesque like this in that game.

Something for everyone. That's what I like to see. If you don't like one game, there's another out there that you will like.

Mah dude really? A little skin and you don't want to play the game. Then you were never going to play it past the 1st week anyways. There's really something to be said about this culture that let's sex bother them to this degree. Just don't use character or costumes and body the people that do. Simple.

That wouldn't solve playing online.

this has the potential to become the new "Square Enix has shot themselves in the foot, I'm an expert in Japanese Culture"

Donate to my patreon and we can make this happen lads and ladettes.

No way, what filter said is actually true, rather than the 'I'm an expert' stuff being furthest from. Everything said in the post you quoted is accurate.

Also i always get a laugh when people say they are embarrassed to play this... are you embarrassed too when play with that hot Ryu? Or when you will play with that shirt-ripping Alex and that almost naked Urien? Sexy designs are ok as long as they are not one sided.

None of those dudes show dick bulge or ass cheeks, not even in 3S

Dudes can be sexy (sexualized) too it's more than just pecs, show some bulge

But how else should people take a stand against salarymen trying to give people boners, huh?

Wrong. Dudley's dick flops around in his idle animation and Oro's dick is visible during one frame of his sweep. Not that anyone would want to see that. But those are more cheeky easter eggs than anything. And how the hell are you forgetting Gill and Urien ass cheeks. "Sexiest" thing is Elena's victory pose I guess.

Unfortunately they are 99,9% of the time. Even "hot Ryu" is really tame compared to the female fanservicey outfits. Urien might be almost naked in SF3 but he is also not really attractive. Give Ryu an outfit where is only wearing a really tight underwear and we will have something close to the female fanservice in most games.

Borderline pornography? Well then...

I've seen dude ass, Gill and Urien cheeks are quite lacking tbh

Still, only dude in SFV sporting some sort of bulge is Gief.

All that violence isn't grotesque but some outfits are?

Chun-Li's is nice, but I'd have preferred her hair down from the other costume. It would have made more sense, even.

Capcom: "We want to more respectful so we removed Mika's buttslap."

Capcom: "One of Mika's costumes is a red skintight suit."

I am in tears right now.

I think her original one was much worse, at least this isn't a showcase of her brazilian waxing.

That Laura underboob one is fucking ridiculous though. I don't understand why they keep trying to turn SF into DoA. :/

I thought Capcom were trying to grow the game and the scene. Instead they make costumes that cater to pervs. So are they openly admitting they don't give a shit about growing a more diverse audience and they'd rather get otaku money? Because that's what they're telling me.

2015 and there's still not a single respectable Black SF character besides maybe Elena, who doesn't even look Black. And I guess you can argue Sean but then there's his sister who doesn't look Black at all so *throws hands up* could be Sean just has a tan! Rashid is literally "I'm Arab! Look at me!"

Then there's the fact that somehow, Capcom has decided that SF is a boys only club and have devolved a perfectly respectable game into fan service hour.

It sucks because I really love SF, but as the poster child of fighting games they're doing a terrible job in trying to grow the genre and appeal to a wider number of people. If anything, they're doing all they can to confirm certain stereotypes about the fighter genre and the people who play them, and I don't like that.

I find SF descending into Soul Calibur and DOA fan service face palmingly desperate. Is it possible at all to enjoy anything made from Japan now that isn't made for perverts? What is with that country these days?

I think Hot Ryu showed that it's not always "more skin" that people want from male fan service. Dead Or Alive has Rig and Jann Lee in short and tight underwear but no one seems to care.

Meanwhile people went nuts over a topless, bearded Ryu

Help me understand this one aspect of your post better, Cindi:

Are you criticizing certain characters for not being "black enough", then immediately turn around and say another character is 'too Arab'?

Street Fighter, as a series, has always used broad stereotypes for their characters. Here's a Japanese guy that is a heavy-set sumo wrestler. Here's a Russian that's big and wrestles bears. Here's an Indian guy that is skinny and does yoga moves. The list goes on and on. Sure, a person's level of acceptance of that method of character design varies, and yeah, there's nothing wrong with wanting Capcom to be more progressive or understanding or whatever- but personally I don't see anything overtly offensive. Even if they had a drunken Irish character that looked suspiciously like a leprechaun (I'm Irish), I'd probably just laugh it off and say "Oh Ono!". But that's me.

What SFV is doing is nothing new for Japanese developers. In fact, it's pretty damn tame considering some of the shit that's out there.

Yeah, the "world warrior" goofiness has been a staple of the series since day 1 (or day 2...). Dhalsim is a flame walking "yogi" who has Indiana Jones style skulls around his neck but he's the best damn South East Asian representation we're gonna get in SF. It's not ideal, but it's part of the fun of the series at this point.

At least we've got a solid Brazilian fighter in the series now.

I think Laura's new outfit is ridiculous, and I will likely never use it out of embarrassment. At the same time, I happily await the eventual cosplay of it.

Depends on if you count Elena or not. Canon says she's from Africa, but her name, outfit, fighting style and attitude scream Brazil.

Sf always had cheese cake what makes you guys automatically associate it with dos, soul calibur however is beyond the pail you could teabag people in that game :E

Fighting games sure are serious business. One Laura alt that's not even out and people absolutely lose their minds. One character in the game that's actually in your face about their sexuality. Can't even have that.

People have their classy strong character with Chun. They have their upper class tier young woman with Karin. They have stoic military cammy who's worn the same thing for 25 years. One over exaggerated, larger than life, buff wrestler chick. But one character who's sole purpose is to be sexually arousing is some huge problem. Why can't there be a type for each person without one side getting mad at the other?

I don't want to hear that this is keeping people from wanting to play the game or that its holding us back when fighting games have literally gotten bigger every single year since since 2009 and doesn't show any signs of not keeping up the same trend. With or without Laura this game was going to be big. A single character's clothes and overly sexual nature isn't going to stop that.

If it makes you uncomfortable then that's honestly something you need to work out with yourself.
