i still say dudley is Indian-Asian descent.

it fits it with the whole british motiff and history. physical features as well.

hey man if we're playing the Imaginary Character Race Draft i would love to take Dudley first overall but the dude is black

ah ok now i see where you are coming from cindi.

so when you complain of games not having enough people of color or minorities, you don't mean more brown-skinned people, just more afro-ethnic features right?

Naw.

My problem is that whenever there's any character of color, they take it to a bizarre extreme and there's so few non Asian one's to begin with that the disparity sticks. The alt costumes never make things better. Balrog's SFIV Halloween costume is...him wearing a Basketball jersey and some chainsnecklaces.

One of Dee Jay's is this.

Thiis isn't to negate your point.

but I am black and enjoy balrogs holloween alt. His 21 color is the knicks. Not saying that shouldn't be problem for anyone.

It really wouldn't and it doesn't change the fact that so many games cannot do Black people right and it doesn't make the grievance void but okay.

That wasn't in response to that, it was in response to the suggestion some characters aren't black for not falling into " black character perimeters"

I'm pretty sure they're wearing the same hat things, aren't they? I swear I've seen something clarifying that that's NOT hair.

Then why isn't his wife wearing it?

No ones saying that but we give you a pretty good black character that isnt a stereotype and youre like no even though the definition of black is " of or relating to any of various population groups having dark pigmentation of the skinl

I'm not critizing any characters for not being black enough. Japanese games have a history with a lack of black characters. The problem is that people assume dark skin = black, which it isn't. Because Sean has dark skin, doesn't mean he's Black. Go search for the Suikoden III Hugo is black thread from the other week. We talk about this very subject. So when discussing Black characters I'm quite cognizant of how I interpret who is Black, especially when discussing who is a reapectable Black character.

You shouldn't take that is me saying a character isn't Black enough. You should be seeing me as questioning if whether or not a specific character really is Black to begin with as the original artist intent.

There's nothing wrong with being "too Arab" but as SF's first Arab character he's a walk stereotype.

Sure, fighting games historically made up their casts around stereotypes around the world in the past, but because it's something its always done doesn't make it inherently right. Plus, there are many options for someone who wants a respectable white dude or a respectable Asian dude that's not a stereotype. But when you want to play a Black character you can't have it unless he looks likes a complete thug (Balrog) or is always smiling like a joke character even while getting hit (Dee Jay). From the Turkish oil wrestler who doesn't even look human (Hakan) to the stereotypical Arab (Rashid), when wanting to play more dark skinned characters usually the rule is to expect a caricature. I'm not sure how that's okay in 2016.

And now I have to deal with the female characters being DOA-ized as well.

I want you to explain to me how Rashid is a "walking sterotype"

You give me one character. Doesn't that prove my point?

I don't know about you but when I go to the beach and there is a girl in a bikini, I don't grab my camera and zoom in to an extreme closeup of her vagina and then slowly pan up to her breasts.
But that's just me.

Also somewhat related, street fighter is a fighting game, it's not actually a trip to the beach. They are different things.
Those girls at the beach, they have actual brains in their heads and autonomy... They dress themselves. They can present themselves however they like. Laura from street fighter in the other hand does not have a brain. She does not have autonomous thoughts. She didn't dress herself. She's an animated computer model designed to give teenagers boners and sell video games from inducing hormone release from supernormal stimuli.

Real girls and computer graphic models are actually different things. If you think about it, you're actually being turned on by a Japanese salaryman in an office and what he thinks will induce the most boners in a demographic.

Edit: terrible spelling

I'm not sure if anyone pointed out the hypocrisy of you "defending the works of a japanese salaryman in an office".

Wait Rashid's a walking stereotype? They polled and worked closely with UAE focus groups so it's not all on them if that's the case

Maybe I'm not fully understanding, but why are people saying the outfits are disgusting and that Capcom should be ashamed? The game is rated Teen and, as far as I can tell, you can see far worse in a pg-13 movie. What's the big deal?

Im guessing he is one cause he has a pointy beard and a shamagh , even tho a shamagh is a normal thing to wear cause its hot in the middle east. Even though hes not screaming something like blatantly racist. I mean i never got why a character that dresses in their counties traditional clothing would be considered racist.

Kids wearing something to emulate one of their parents is a pretty common thing. But, seems like I might be wrong on this anyhow.

I recall in several interviews like this one that devs usually made a point of mentioning whatever Hakan's got going on isn't a hat.
The "thing" on top of Hakan's head is his hair style, Kamei noted. It's not a hat, shower cap or helmet.

As for the Chun Li jiggle, isn't it because most of the new costume footage was taken by porting new beta files over to the old cracked beta that still has the 2P gravity bug? I'm probably wrong, but I thought I heard something along those lines.

Sean, is a super fun character who doesnt gives up.
Im not saying that theres a lot of good repersentation. Japan sucks with people of different cultures mainly cause japan was literally closed to the rest of the world for like 200 years, and they still rarely interact with people of different ethnicities. Im sure some people in japan have gone their whole lives without seeing a black person in real life, its where things like ganguro come from.

man Shaheen is so dope

I think he looks cool visually but everything else about him seems rather boring. His fighting style the only thing that stuck out to me was the 1 4 the japanese player kept using against me at Evo, his launcher, and he surfboards opponents once in a while.

Man there are races and countries that still have not even one representative. Us blacks have 4, 2 good ones and 2 jokey sort of ones. What more do you want?
Canada has 0 characters still, and no Irish fighter either. Alot of the smaller countries get passed over like poland, or argentina.

Man, Sasquatch wrecked so much shit in the Darkstalkers/Vampire Savior series, Capcom fears putting in the top tier Canadian. SNK has Maxima who's Canadianess is infinitesimally lesser than Sas.

Us Germans got fucking Hugo. Who's not a bad character but barely looks anything German and the guy he's based on was French.

Also those EX characters nobody remembers.

All this country-based argument is useless. I would have stopped giving out nationality altogether. Why? Look up how many countries are in earth. And compare that to typical FGC roster sizes.

Yeah, you will mostly get US, Japanese, other asian or european characters, with a few other tokens/weirdos based on outdated, shallow stereotypes.
