yup the standoffs and the i/o shield plate stops it from shorting out on the case

Do any more experienced PC builders have any tips on big do's and don'ts? The biggest things I'm worried about are fitting the motherboard and CPU correctly.
Even if you had an Intel mobo right now, you still wouldn't be able to use a Nehalem chip. New socket...godhandiscen said:I so wish I had an Intel mobo:

I didn't know this. I am kinda bummbed though that AMD hasnt released anything on the higuer end lately. I am not much of an overclocker, and I want a quad core with 3.0GHz. If AMD keeps its policy of only releasing lower end products I might have to switch.zoku88 said:Even if you had an Intel mobo right now, you still wouldn't be able to use a Nehalem chip. EDIT: Unfortunately, I don't believe in the use of synthetic benchmarks...

Save money on the CPU and get more storage or something. Get the 8400 instead. The Crimson Blur said:Sup GAF. I will be heading to college next year (UVA). I just took Newegg prices because I am too lazy to look for deals atm so I am sure I can cut some of the cost. I didn't do the P45-DS4P for the mobo because I wanted to futureproof the machine with DDR3. And, it is damn sexy.
I am willing to go up to 2.5k, but I don't see how. Sure, I could upgrade the speakers to z5500s but I will be in a dorm so I don't see the usefulness of that. Or I could make the monitor into a 2493HM but I don't want to strain the GPU. Well, tell me what you guys think, I appreciate the advice.

I see that the Samsung doesn't have DVI, only VGA, is that a big deal? Basically, I'm looking to spend around $175 on a monitor, what's my best bet?
Thanks GAF!
The default one is the best. It runs in the background. It wont take any processing power either. The reason why it doesn't have a progress bar is because you can make changes to your drive and the de-fragmentation will continue and adapt to these new changes. Look into it.DarkAngelYuna said:Anyone know a decent defrag program for Vista 64? The default one seems to take forever or just never finish.
Any one have any input on changes I should make before I pull the trigger? I will be using a different hard drive but I like the build overall besides that. My main concern is that I plan on using my 720p Bravia for the display, and for that this setup would be overkill(?) Also I don't know anything about processors so I am just blindly following the build on that and I'm not totally clear on if Vista 64 is worth it or not.Outdoor Miner said:Case - COOLER MASTER Centurion 534

Is your goal to throw money away? Why Vista Ultimate? Why DDR3? Why an 8500? Why an overpriced 520w PSU, especially when your case comes with a PSU (of unknown quality)? The Crimson Blur said:Sup GAF. Sounds good to me. I think I'm going to go for it and order pretty soon. Exciting times! I haven't had a windows pc in like 5 years and am itching for some desktop gaming action.aznpxdd said:Get this HD instead - as fast as raptors, great bang for the buck, 2 platter technology and very reliable.

I left it on overnight for 7 hours while my pc was doing nothing and it still wasn't finished, my hd is small too, only 300gb.godhandiscen said:The default one is the best. It runs in the background. Cheeto said:As complex as it may seem, you shouldn't really be intimidated by it. The motherboard's software/firmware will take care of much of the work. When it is all said and done you'll just see a single drive on your OS. Don't worry about studying or anything like that, just make sure that the motherboard you purchase has the capability, and everything you need to know should be laid out for you in the manual for your motherboard. So long as you don't have pre-existing data on the hard drives that you want to keep, you cannot screw it up beyond repair.

It will never finish. Thats it. It will just keep moving data as you use your PC. I ussually leave running for a day when I use it and gain about 5GB of space back. I only use it every 3 weeks or so.DarkAngelYuna said:I left it on overnight for 7 hours while my pc was doing nothing and it still wasn't finished, my hd is small too, only 300gb.

Yes, that one.bathala said:Help with Zalman vf1000 or any fans
3 pin fan.
i just found out my mother board doesn't have an extra 3 pin for the fan that the Zalman requires to be plug.
from youtube someone told me that power connectors have some molex cable that u can use as power source for the Zalman
PSU: Corsair 520w hx
it has 4 pin molex but since the Zalman is a 3 pin female i need an adaptor?
I'm guessing this adaptor?
thanks. Big helpgodhandiscen said:Yes, that one.
SarBear said:I want to know two things:
1) Can my system run that 8800 with my current power supply?
2) If not, can I replace my power supply (thermaltake) and graphics card (7600) with the ones in the other computer (antec, 8800) while still having enough power to start up that other system with the extreme processor (will the goddamn thing start up the rig with my weaksauce power supply)?
Thanks in advance
bee said:1) yes, although the psu seems a little underpowered for instance a corsair 520w has 40amps on the 12v rails, but thats still more than enough to power it
2) you could if you want to
SarBear said:Thank you very much. I originally skimped on the power supply because I didn't know much about them. Now I surely wish I did otherwise. With the second question, tho, if I did switch power supplies and graphics cards.....would that extreme processor have trouble with my weaksauce power supply?
