Official Animal Crossing: City Folk / Let's Go to the City! Thread of Fun & Innocence

We got Animal Crossing Wild World at launch.

My wife loved it so much that she bought a second DS and a second copy of the game for herself. She still plays it from time to time with bizarro obsessive bouts from time to time.

Are we going to get City Folk? She is flying back from London this weekend. She is stopping on the way back from JFK to get a copy.

I am doomed.

This makes me glad I don't have a Wii, as soon as I can give my servitude to Tom Nook that's it, I'm his until something monumental can pull me away.

Nice work on the OP, I hope this retains the fun of the other versions...

...damn you Tom Nook, damn you to heck!

Watering Can: 500 bells from Nook's shop
Silver Watering Can: From Nook's Shop after buying 50 bags of seeds
Golden Watering Can: From Town Hall after maintaining a perfect town for 15 days straight.
The difference: The silver watering can has a wider radius for sprinkling water. The Golden can.. well it doesn't say the perks, but I'm pretty sure it severely helps the success rate of plants growing.
Golden Watering Can is used to make Gold Roses in Wild World, so pretty sure it's the same in CF. Seems like there are more hybrids this time around, so maybe the different watering cans will have some more effects on hybrids along with the gold roses.

Neat Thread andrex, I just hope people will actually read it.....nope,too late. :1

Anyways, i havent played WW for over a year. I look forward to starting this one.

I will probably end up getting this and only hating myself for it. :(

Thanks to the DS Lite, I couldn't enjoy Wild World properly so it's been forever since I played an AC.

I am still on the fence about this one,

I really liked AC on both the GC and DS.

I hope that there is enough in CF to justify the cost considering that I have played the two previous titles.

Isn't Brewster a pigeon? You have him listed as part of a "trio of owls".

Anyway, I kind of forgot about this game for the longest time. I may get it if some of my friend's pick it up too, but otherwise it's tough to say.

is buying coffee from brewster actually good for anything? i mean after some coffees he starts to talk with you but is that it? never really understood why he's in the game :p

Animal Crossing was my favorite new IP from last generation and I've never owned a DS and I could not WAIT for Animal Crossing Wii, but man... there just isn't enough new here.

So, so, so sad. I really, really wanted a new but familiar experience. Nintendo really got fucking lazy, and it just makes me more sad than angry. Ah well.

Hope you guys have fun with it.

LA gaffers! Game is in stock at Los Feliz Costco. $43.79, about 5 or so left.

Edit: forget it. Computer wouldn't let them sell it. Stock pulled :(

Honestly, guys, look through the strategy guide before you buy.

Pros:
Awesome new Nintendo items.
1/4 of the items are new.
An insane amount of clothes this time.
Every villager from both games, plus more (220-something?).
New item types.

Cons:
Only 40 K.K. Slider songs, and 3/4 of them are old.
Mostly the same museum stuff.
Mostly the same house items.
Mostly the same special villagers.

Nice, adding to the OP.

Those are awesome! I want Midna's mask now.

I loved the DS game, but I don't feel like buying it again.

Pretty much my thoughts exactly

I loved AC on GC and the DS-version was cool (handheld suits AC well) but another "remake" of the N64 original? No thanks

Unfortunately, every villager does not return. There are indeed some missing ones which is disappointing because there is definitely room for everyone. No new species either. (I wanted some Platypuses and Llamas.)

I love myself some Animal Crossing, but how can a game that we knew was in development back in 2005 be so similar to previous iterations? I mean, this could've been Eguchi's chance to really change things up, but it's really more of an expansion pack.

I still love AC though, so I'll buy it soon enough. But still, it's disappointing.

At least the Wild World villagers return, right? Snake? SNAKE?! SNAAAAAAAAAAKE!!

Pretty decent reviews so far. :)

I think IGN will give it a 7.5-7.9.
Depending on what IGN give it, it might be my first Animal Crossing game, though I won't buy it day one. I have to go through my Wii backlog first!

So no one wants to answer my question, so I am going to assume that means no, nothing is replacing the NES games, that whole aspect has been removed.

There's no significant changes to the houses, same old setup, almost (if not) exactly. Not much house decor added either. Museum is pretty much the same.

I wanted to really like this game. Hell, I'm disappointed with the amount of new content, and I skipped the DS version! I can hardly imagine what someone who played the GCN and DS versions must think.

Nevertheless, I'm still going to get it, but I hope that little feature of the Wii that lets Nintendo know how often everyone is playing their games clues them in that they may be hurting the franchise by allowing this level of (no) progression to continue to the next AC game after this.

Anyone else here wouldn't put it past them to think they could get away with the next Animal Crossing have no improvements as well?

I guess I'm just griping a lot because the original delivered so much, well, everything was new. And they didn't change hardly one thing. And I'm still going to buy the damned game. I hate being part of the problem!

There is a new place in the game called Resseti's Survelleince Center. Check out the City Tunnel every weekday at 8pm and he may be there! He wants you to leave, and may even give you a silver shovel to go away! These shovels can knock more bells out of rocks than before!

You could visit Resetti's place in the Japanese-only AF+ rerelease, but this sounds different in how it's handled.

6,500 points - Midna's Mask (Twilight Princess)

...Damn it, that sounds awesome.

I would have gotten this game if it wasn't Wild World 1.5. I played Wild World so much that I'll probably just be bored. As it is, I'll wait until it's in the bargain bin...or maybe never.

Skipped out on Wild World so I'm looking forward to this. The game is gonna be a great game to play/run in the background while playing DSP games. :lol

Whoa whoa whoa. Hold up. This comes out in 2 days? I'm a huge Animal Crossing fan and I forgot about this :lol

To be honest I've been on blackout for this game since E3, mostly videos. I don't want to ruin what new stuff there is. :P (Which is why in the OP some things are ambiguous, such as "Online Specific Events" and such.)

I'll probably be picking this up, but I cannot decide on WiiSpeak.

Anything to convince me to buy it? Or not to?

The Conduit will use it.

Can I have a pic or vid of that please? I heard rumors before and really wanted to see it.

I really expected Nintendo to go all out on the online features... :(

This isn't the Animal Crossing I wanted, but I'll probably end up buying it sooner or later.

Go for it. Pretty much all complaints about this game come from people who have played the previous versions. Everything will be fresh for you, making the complaints of sameness void.

I think it's important for us all to remember the kind of game that Animal Crossing is. The point of it is that there is no point. The game provides an environment in which one can relax, for 10 minutes or for 2 hours. That's the sole purpose of the game; everything within is built to enhance it. If it's still relaxing, why mess it up? That's how I see it, and so, despite past doubts, I've already ordered this game and will be enjoying it soon. It's nice to relax, y'know.

I hate to wish ill on any game, but I hope this bombs so Nintendo goes back to the drawing board after phoning one of their biggest IP's in like this.

It's so sad to see the critical darling of 2002 reduced to such reviews.

I really wanted Animal Crossing Wii to be better.

An understandable complaint, just because we really just want an MMO Animal Crossing.

But I have to ask, why is it we can have 9 Mega Mans that are exactly the same, and want more of it, but it's different with a game like this?

It's more of the same, yes. But fuck, I can't name many games that I play for over a year. Day one for me.

This is actually my first spin in the AC universe. For some reason, this was one of those franchises that I just never got around to...but I'm pumped about the City Folk. I love the concept, it looks like something I've never really tried before, and that's exciting.

Some folks are bugged by a lack of visual advancement, but as has been said in this thread, this is a title that might be a lot of folks' introduction to the series - and for us, who cares. I dig the style, as-is, so it's all good...

I'm picking up the Wii Speak bundle Sunday, hopefully there will be a nice AC GAF contingent to play/talk with.

The one above, Edge's.

And 1up's impressions led me to believe I know exactly how they'll score it.

A 7/10 is reduced to "such reviews"? Right alongside it is a 4.4/5.0.

Critics have become fairly irrelevant. Who actually takes IGN or 1Up or the like into consideration?

Sad to see so many people not picking this one up.

I played both the GC and DS versions. The DS version's lack of holidays and horrible frame rate bothered me so much I found myself just going back to play the GC version. The GC version lacked all the new stuff that the DS one added so it left me wanting more.

This game is a mix of both, so I can't really say that I could want anything else.

Being able to celebrate the holidays with some of my friends from far away is easily worth the price. I couldn't think of a better way to celebrate with them, than with a bit of nostalgia and gift giving on Animal Crossing.

I don't pay attention anymore when something gets a 10, but I think generally you can tell a good game, mediocre game, or bad game apart by reading these sites.

Ah, a 7/10 from Edge is very good in the same month that they gave Resistance 2 a 6/10 and Fallout 3 a 7/10. Yes, it isn't quite the critical darling it once was, but that comes with the territory of moving along the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" path. I mean, hey, look how the gaming press criminally underrated the last entry into the Fire Emblem console series?

UncleScr00ge said:
I always said that Wild World, on a console, with real world holidays and WiFi play would be the ultimate Animal Crossing.

Pretty much.

These days? I really don't think it's that simple. You have completely different reviews on multiple sites for games like Sonic Chronicles and Wii Music. It's just silly. Critics are nothing more but 5-years-ago forum fanboys who have moved up into being fanboys for a living.

And really, someone just pointed out the same magazine gave Resistance 2 a 6.

It's very hard to take critics seriously when it comes to stuff like that.

So wait, critics shouldn't be taken seriously because people have different opinions? :lol

As someone who bought both the GCN and DS versions and never got beyond a few months before losing interest, the relative lack of innovation compared to early speculation will have me steering clear of this one.

I think a lot of people have forgotten about it, though - Nintendo can skirt their way through Christmas on Wii Fit/Play and Mario Kart, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be nice if these games were connecting more with the userbase.

Remember guys, this game is said to have free dlc (Real DLC, not just locked content according to the director of the game)

Maybe we`ll see more new and unique content later on?
