Official Animal Crossing: City Folk / Let's Go to the City! Thread of Fun & Innocence

Or it will descend from its ivory towers to deliver something not-so-amazing like Super Mario Sunshine. I'm not saying that Sunshine was really a bad game, but by doing things like this, Nintendo creates insanely high expectations that they are sometimes unable to meet.
I don't see how this is a problem for Nintendo though. It's more your problem, I think. You can enjoy things despite them not being perfect. If your expectations get in the way of you having fun then you need to rethink the way you're living your life.

By the way, quick side note about this game, I heard when you make clothes now, you can have a separate design for your character's sleeves. Is this true? Surprisingly, this will seriously impact my decision on whether or not I buy this game.

:lol for so many reasons :lol

Anyway we are hours away from this release right? I'm ready :D Will be playing it up in the am!

If this game is so much like AC WW and AC:GCN, why didn't they just release it as a Riiplay title along with Pikmin 1&2 and Metroid Prime for budget price?

Ha, just saw the commercial on Comedy Central for AC. Of course they would use 2 late 20 something girls chatting with eachother via WiiSpeak. "Lets go watch the fireworks"

He's talking about internally developed Nintendo games.

S&P2 is a joint Nintendo (Probably SPD1 since they`re mostly made up of the old R&D1 team) and Treasure production so yeah, that one IS 1st Party developed.

Yeah, concept-to-completion, four years sounds about right. But that's not what I'm talking about. They HAVE the engine. Make 120 stars worth of high quality levels. I'm talking PURE level design. It should not take that long.

Take a look at Banjo-Kazooie to Banjo-Tooie. Only two years went by between those two games, and both of them were huge, phenomenal adventures.

If/when the idea of Galaxy gets stale, THEN they should go ahead and take a few years to make a new engine/concept. But we shouldn't just drop this cool idea just because it might get old at some point in the future.

See, the difference between you and me is the fact that a lot of these games get stale before the end of their first version, and because of this I'd like to see less sequels. If you're going to have just the same base game, then I'd like at least two to three years or else you're just going to get less buyers. I'm surprised someone wants BIGGER, BETTER, FASTER from a company that's known for "milking" their franchises, in a thread where people are already complaining about them milking a specific franchise.

Yes, you can do that. You're allowed to stop and make a design at any time, but only hold eight. If you go into the tailor shop they give you a design storage area for 30-something designs, and then you can buy "Pro tools" that allow you to customize the sleeves and back of a shirt to look differently.

How different is pattern creation in this game from the previous versions? Still 32x32, 15-colors, similar palettes?

Peripheral Support:

Headphones (Not Headset)
Err, isn't that like saying a game supports "speakers" for listening? What am I missing?

Didn't see it posted anywhere but 1up posted their review.

Somehow, despite two previous time-sucking outings into the open world of Animal Crossing -- each fully preparing me for what to expect in a sequel -- City Folk still rouses some excitement at the prospect of collecting more rare furniture, fossils, and that one elusive bug or fish. But all of this quickly subsides upon your introduction to Tom Nook, everyone's favorite predatory lender. That's when the realization quickly sets in: This is all just the same old routine with extra goodies that do little to change things in any meaningful way.

And it certainly doesn't help the city becomes unavailable when visiting another player's town -- if you want to visit, you have to go back to your own town and then hop onto the bus.

Ultimately, it comes down to this: Do you really wanna spend the time doing all of the things you already spent so much time on in Wild World? And do you want to do them in almost the exact same ways? City Folk just seems like a huge missed opportunity?either that, or a lazy cash-in on Nintendo's newfound casual audience. If it's the former, they ought to just call it Wii Mortgage Payments.

That x1,000,000

This could have really been one of the defining games of the Wii (:lol, I know), but instead, it is just going to end up being a repeat of what we've already played over the last four years.

I'm actually preparing myself to not be surprised to see huge bodies of text from the animals copy+pasted and not even changed from the prior versions.

this does seem a poor lazy effort imo.

i guess from a business point of view will be minimum investment spent = massive returns.

im sure nintendo will start making its return almost within the first week of sales. I hope they are spending the returns on something worthwhile.

hello F-Zero? hello?

It's little touches like that that remind you that, yes, you are playing a Nintendo-made product.

And it's the lack of big touches like that that remind you that, yes, you are playing a DS port done on the cheap.

They didn't even change the hourly tunes, according to someone in this thread. That's really weak.

I've used a wired USB keyboard with my Wii, but the long extension cable stretched across my living room was a pain. What's the best WIRELESS USB keyboard I can get for a reasonable price without having to order it?

So I'm guessing for people who didn't play wild world this is still going to be a good game :D

Started fresh. Game looks great and runs at 60 fps. I forgot how slow the DS version ran.

Just running through the initial BS now. Hope I'm done before football.

I know this is going to be the same thing as the last 2 games but I'm still gonna buy it. I complained a lot about the DS version being the same as the GC game but then I still played the hell out of it. I'm sure it'll be the same this time around. I just love the atmosphere in these games too much.

So where are all the damn reviews? Did someone have an exclusive or did the online periodicals just not care?

Most sites like IGN, Gamespot etc. work on a regular Monday - Friday work week. Expect a whole bunch of reviews on Monday.

BTW: when I invited people to come to my town in AC:WW and I typed in a curse word like "fuck" it wouldn't let me say it. Does WiiSpeak censor you when you say bad words? I wouldn't put it passed Nintendo.

I doubt they have the capability to do that. I fully expect the game to be populated with racist 12 year-olds in no time.

Or the "gimme a fuckin' chocolate milk mom!" types.

Needless to say, no WiiSpeak for this guy.

While that's true, most of their submission databases allow for time-specific post entries. Case in point - 1up's Review is live:

It's more fair than it seems in the following quote...ouch on the final grade. It was likely deserved, but not pretty.

I thought you could still only play with people on your friends list..So you really shouldn't worry about that so much.

Picked it up, have played for about an hour, and when I went to save my 12th picture for whatever reason my SD card isn't recognized. Jeez...

Edit: Of course when I try to take another picture, finally giving up the one that had become so dear to me, it saves. Dammit...

Getting my copy any minute now (Dont know if I got WiiSpeak tho...)

I have never hyped a game as much as one. WW was the game I played the most EVER and I cant wait for this one!

Also I'm pretty sure you need wiicodes for certain things (Mostly sity stuff) So I'm gonna go ahead and throw my WiiCode out there before I get the game.

7489-8712-0873-4606

I am so close nto memorizing the code :lol

Every once in a while, a game comes along that justifies me buying a Wii. This be one of 'em. Although I was ultimately disappointed with SSBB (although it did cause me to bust out the Gamecube and start playing melee so I'm thankful for that) this looks to be promising still. I'm gonna call up my only Wii-owning friend and demand he buys this today so I can get my hands on some play time.

Are there still NES games to collect? Maybe even SNES? It seems unlikely now since it would encroach on virtual console sales, but this was one of the best parts of the GCN version for me (aside from the fact that each game had to be in its own NES, taking up my precious basement space.)

Any Animal Crossing megasite out there that someone could link me to?

Someone didn't read the OP. ;)

Edit- Adding the online thread and 1up's review to the OP.

how many of you were able to get the wii speak bundle?
my local EB said they are delayed (Toronto), and they only have the only game version

Picked it up, I'll probably end up posting positive impressions in a day or two despite the complaints earlier. It is, after all, Animal Crossing.

I did the best thing I could to prepare for it, skipped the DS version and haven't touched the GCN one for a long, long time. Even if it is all the same, it will be a little fresh again :)

This game is wonderful. If you liked either of the previous ones, I think you'll definitely enjoy this one.

It has fresh additions and they really bumped up the amount of insects you will see which is just something that stood out for me.

I played the hell out of both the GC version and Wild World, and this just feels like the absolutely perfect mix of the two. I'm having a lot of fun with it.

They didn't have it at WalMart when I picked the game up, but it's no big deal for me since I'm only using it to talk to my gf and she doesn't have a Wii yet.

God.... resisting urge... to re-start.... DS version....
Already did it a few days ago :lol. The last day I had played was January 12th, so I wasn't a year behind yet.

While I wish it had more content, I still quite enjoy playing it. It really is a lot easier to move without using a d-pad and wow is Wild World's sub 20fps frame rate annoying. So still a worthwhile purchase in my view.

Can someone please explain to me what DS Suitcase does? I've read the instruction booklet entry maybe five times, and I still don't understand.

oh, now i just remember how genius the trading items on the Gamecube AC was

all you need is giving the code to your friend, and they can get it from their save without connecting the internet :D
