Official Animal Crossing: City Folk / Let's Go to the City! Thread of Fun & Innocence

My God, I can´t believe I am sucked in again. I played the DS version to death (I put probably 200 hours on that thing. It killed my DS phat), and here I am again, in a game it is essentially identical, hopelessly addicted working for that slum lord with subprime mortgages Nook.

Christ, I love this game.

Note to Nintendo, though: I have three USB mics already (Rock Band, Karaoke Revolution, American Idol. What can I say, I got the last two for $20 each). Why, oh why, you want me to spend more money on yet another USB thing? I must say, Wii Speak is pretty damn neat, but shit, I feel like such a consumer whore.

Hopeless, I am hopeless.

Looks like you have something on your mind.

My hype for this game had died, but it may be on the rise...
If you would like to know, here's the full list of holidays. Someone on the ONM forums posted it first, but that forum won't load.

I have to say that the sense of community (already been to about five other towns) and even taking pictures has sucked me right back in.

(Not my dump)

That link has some spoilers concerning some special items and tools you can get in the game. At the same time, from the few names I glanced at, yeah, I'm loving the little stuff.

It seems like they randomized the fish a little more to me... Instead of catching the same fish repeatedly, you catch a decent variety.

I've got some apples left if anyone wants some. Would love some other fruit back in trade! :D

I'm also slowly getting back into my design schtick with the game, Photoshop palettes and everything. No better way to start that off than with some quickly made HOPE. I'll have to make another 8-square mural for the entrance like I did on the DS game! ha

HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you make that yourself? This is my first time playing Animal Crossing, can you trade that to me? Or what?

So I got 500 points at Nook's store, just got the store model, I thought I was supposed to get a Mario Kart banana?

So far I'm really liking that catching fish is a lot easier than AC:WW and unlike AC-GCN I'm getting a wide range of fish, not just 50 sea bass in a row. It's cool to be able to rat out idiot villagers I don't like to Town Hall, don't know if it does anything yet. I do not however like the mixed pointer analog system, I keep having issues with A not doing what I thought it would because the wiimote is catching some sunlight or barely getting the sensor bar.

If you would like to make it yourself:

I used palette number 9. But I didn't really finesse it any; just converted it to a palette and recreated it in the game.

Otherwise, you'll have to meet me or anyone I've given it to at the Able Sisters' place.

My main issue with the tool is that you can't control with buttons, only with the pointer, which loses me some precision.

Anyone here not very happy with the layout of your town? I'm not too happy with it, but my wife is already telling me that I better not think about changing it now. Of course the only reason she is saying that is because she likes a few of the town folks already.

I am hoping that like the GC version you eventually get a third bridge. That would fix most of my layout problems. I could have compulsively restarted like some people do, but I just decided to live with it. Does anyone know if there is always just one beachside house?

That's awesome!

Pattern palette maker for all those who need it.
Word of warning: not all the palettes are the same! For example, the DS palette #15 is grayscale, but in City Folk, its greys, dull greens, and some browns. (hurr hurr next gen)

I pulled out each City Folk palette and made Photoshop CLUT files (basically palettes) with them, so I'll share if anyone is interested and would like to know how to convert images using Photoshop. I'm afraid that they aren't the EXACT swatches from the game, though, since it seems the JPEG compression desaturates a little.

I was afraid of that. Hmm well since I dont have Photoshop, I really hope someone creates a converter for City Folk.

Only got to play for 2 and a half hours today; still the awesome game I love, the graphical overhaul is pretty significant imo. I love the way the flowers look especially, and how they sway when you walk through them. I have already started setting up my plots across town to start breeding hybrids.

One neat thing I love about my town is that it has a little hidden area. There is this long path you have to go down with walls on both sides, and then it opens up into a little nook...

That's my little dude wearing a understated number in orange hues... and yeah, I've already been stung by bees. ¬__¬

Man, the picture feature is pretty neat. I would always struggle with taking pics of my DS town with my crappy camera. This is pretty simple, although I wish you could save the pics directly to your Wii memory. Devote a few blocks for that. Still glad it's so easy, and not like SSBB where you had to convert the pics into jpgs once you got them on your pc. These are already saved as jpgs.

Right now I'm trying to decide what to do for my first 8-square entrance mural. The two I'm deciding on now is the Mother 3 Porkbean Army enlist propaganda.

or some Metroid Prime 2 art that I really love.

Thank God for the design bank so I don't have to throw one away to make the other. Regardless, only one can be out at a time. :(
Still seeing if there's anything else that fits my fancy, but I want to do a video game themed one first. If anyone would like me to spit something out for them to make, be it one 32x32 square or one for all 8, I'll gladly do so.

I picked this up earlier today and just remembered I bought it :lol

I won't play it right away, but I did check out the wii speak mic and amd wondering if it's quality or not. It seemed pretty cheap just on first impressions, but without wanting to start up AC right nor or no Wii Speak channel, I couldn't test it out.

It sounded fine to me. If it actually gets used in other games I don't think it will be real useful unless everyone plays with headphones on since it will pick up random gameplay sounds.

Gamespot marathon ACCF video made it seem like wiispeak works nicely. The voices came through pretty clear.

EDIT: Conduit is supposed to use it...so if that turns out good. Also im sure now that its there, more online capable wii titles will use it.

Also headphones?

I can't seem to find an answer for this question:
Is there new fruit?

I don't get it why devs didn't add more, very simple things, like a banana tree?

Seems like it's still the same fruit....Apples, Oranges, Peaches, Cherries, and Pears...

The main reason I bought it was for the other games to use it in the future. I hope it becomes standard.

See? Bass! Maybe if we can catch a sea drummer, maybe we can start a band!

I know there's been no changes since the Gamecube game, but I would forgive text being carried over for that one line... :lol

out of curiosity: how many blocks are needed for AC? Haven't found some info about this

Mine is using 36 blocks with two players in the same village. I'm not sure if that's good or back, but it doesn't seem like too much to me. I remember the GCN ones were pretty huge.

Thanks for your opinion, it's quite enlightening. I haven't actually played AC GC since 2002. So, knowing what you've said it seems like I might have fun with it. I do need to ask: is the perspective less irritating than with the DS version (ie: can you see a little more)? Because I much preferred the GC's overhead view than what little I messed around with on the DS.

I find the view fine, but I never played the DS one. I guess optimizing each screen with the proper amount of trees is a thing of the past since there aren't screens anymore. The bend of the perspective lets you see houses and players over the horizon, making it easier to find things.

The map is greatly improved, it shows where you are located, and you can click on the buildings on the map to see what they are (useful for the beginning when trying to find people's houses). Also you can select from a list of names and the house will light up on the map.

Once I start getting a little further along, I imagine I will enjoy the peaceful pace of the game in the same way I did the first, thanks to there being a decent amount of new items and people. Still, they could have taken a few more chances and stirred up the formula a little more.

Animal Crossing Galaxy. Contemplate the game with that engine, having your own little planet, or even if the game changed locations in to a city entirely, apartment living, etc. A broken record I know, I'll end it here. Time to start enjoying what it is :)

Before I run out and buy the game I'd just want to ask: does this game have multiple save-slots? I hate that the pokemon games only had one save-slot :/

Really? That is great news. I thought about something like 150blocks.

@Apenheul: You've got one City/Village with up to 3 friends with each his own house somewhere on the map. So a Save is such a house.

I would have loved to see Nintendo pull a Square-Enix and release City Folk on the Wii & DS on the same game. I would love to bring both my town and character to work with me.

It only has one save(town), but you each have your own house. The downside being one friend or family member could run someone you like out of town.

my daughter played for a few hours yesterday, then i played for a couple. overall it looks like wild world - with some subtle differences. i noticed a few insects that defiantly did not run from me like usual. there are 4 houses in the town, but they are spread out way more. mine is on the beach :). you can pick mushrooms and sell them. there's
a yellow bird that only seems to fly away for dramatic effect. funny how it's a real bird-like bird while there are other talking birds that live there - disney goofy and pluto paradox in full effect.
i guess there's a mushroom furniture set, becuz i ended up picking a mushroom lamp. its a nice tall floor lamp.

the only thing i dont like, as with wild world, is the fact that you're forced to use the peripheral to do certain things (stylus--->wiimote). ugh. also, i honestly wish they would switch up the beginning ritual. the whole meet everybody, work tutorial thing could use a remix. other than that, it's still everything an animal crossing fan could want.

i have peaches btw

edit: for those on the fence about wiispeak - the channel isn't live yet. theres a message on the page that says something like "this channel will be ready by the end of the year!"

Since pattern making doesn't look to have changed much, the old Anicro Desapro program originally made for the GCN version should still help people make patterns. It's similar to the online pattern maker linked to earlier, though there are a few more options to use (or ignore because they're not properly explained).

Sounds like not all the palettes are the same, but since kirbutashi has captured the colors I can probably toss them in in the near future.

It's definitely the biggest AC save yet. 36 blocks comes to about 4.5 megabytes. The GCN Memory Card 59 that Animal Crossing used most of took only 0.5 megabytes. Not sure about the size of the DS save.

My gates are open. Lots of pears around. Town's still pretty barren. Please bring fruits, planting a tree would be even better :D

You'll be able to download a pattern maker to the DS even if you don't have the DS version right, right?

Also I haven't kept up but I recall an option in the DS version to make tiles? So you can create a huge image out of smaller tiles?

Yeah, you could drop patterns on the ground outside, and thus use multiple patterns side by side to make something larger. I assume this is kept in this version.

Me, I just made a road of Alexes from River City Ransom to lead visitors to my house.
