Official Batman: Arkham Knight Trailer – “Gotham is Mine”

You should go get Arkham Asylum and Arkham City like ASAP.

Great great games.

One of my favorite generic Batplots from the comics is when someone has beaten him and the entire city has turned. Granted, DC is currently running THREE! 3! of these at the same time in various books, but it's good stuff.

You forgot the best one, Origins.

Yup. Absolutely embarrassing. This:

is apparently ugly. Even more telling is that for some people, this:

is preferrable.

It's the difference between 'beautiful' and 'sexy'.

One looks like a goddess, the other looks like a super-model.

Everything looks more grounded in reality now. Like the Nolan films. As i said i think it looks wonderful but my preference is more with the over the top character designs. Everybody in AK looks completely different. There's going to be a disconnect from AA and City. I wonder how Killer Croc is going to look if he's in the game.

Ehhh, everyone looks pretty similar to me other than Ivy. They are just able to add more detail now. I would also disagree with the overall look feeling more grounded. Maybe they brought down the bulk a little, but it still looks pretty damn fantastical, which I love.

The new designs look good but I prefer the exaggerated comic look. That was the main design point when RS was making AA. I want to know why they decided to change that with AK.

I think they are going for a more consistent look. The old games were all over the place in that regard. You had characters like Joker and Bane that were really exaggerated, while others were more grounded and realistic.

It doesnt bother me since I thought their exaggerated design were all pretty terrible, especially looking back now and comparing them with Origins and AK.

Did anybody say she was ugly? (Ive scanned back through a few pages but could have missed it).
Yes.

I prefer the old design just because she looked the same in the previous games so it just seems odd to completely change her look for the 3rd game. Not saying one is sexier than the other (if anything the new one is definitely more realistic) but it still seems a bit odd just to completely change her look for no apparent reason.

What counts as "no reason"? Every other character looks different (beyond higher fidelity) except for Two-Face and maybe Firefly.

There is a single comment on that YouTube video calling her ugly.

So OBVIOUSLY every single white cishead shitlord gamer is not satisfied that Ivy isn't a porn star, or what ever.

Where is this "super model" you speak of?

I don't know. Ignoring the green skin Arkham City's Poison Ivy has more of a super-model look to her, more exotic features certainly. Arkham Knight's Poison Ivy looks more like a greek goddess, in how they are depicted with a graceful beauty.

Exotic? Sure. Super model? Not really.

From a character design standpoint, they seem to have tried to make everyone more grounded instead of freaks of nature. And that doesn't seem limited to Ivy. I definitely prefer the new designs.

No? I'm not even sure how that can be contentious. I'm talking about 'Miss World'-types.

You'd say that the Arkham Knight Poison Ivy looks more like a super-model, then?

Has Rocksteady provided a reason for the changes? If not then it stands as "no reason". (Not saying that they havent, but I have not seen anything about it.)

I also wasnt a fan of Scarecrow, Riddler, and Harley's redesign at first for the same reason ::dodges thrown chair::

While I can see some problems with Scarecrows original design and it would make sense that it would change since it seems that Croc was not gentle with him in AA, Riddler, Harley, and Ivy's redesigns just seem odd to me. I understand enhancing the fidelity on them for the newer hardware but they look like completely different people now. Its also even a bit more jarring considering that Two Face and Penguin are evolutions of their designs from the previous games, but not totally different people.

No. I'd say neither of them look like a super model. However one of them looks beautiful and the other just looks terrible :p

Ivy looks more realistic now; before she was modelled more as a "perfect" person without any imperfections. Now she looks like a real woman, which means that even though she is still really nice looking she doesn't look "perfect" any more.

Why do you think it won't? Like I said up until this point assets were identical, no way PC will have better models with more polygons and shaders while consoles will have different low res assets. Can't see this happening.

While I agree that it's unlikely for this to have any exclusively modeled 3d objects, assetts were higher last gen and due to Nvidia and DX11 features some weren't even in the console versions. I doubt this will happen to Arkham Knights but you never know, maybe they are partnering with Nvidia again for several things, still wouldn't change the turret on the Batmobile I think.

Wow really? Because of a turret?

Ok then. Crytek are right.

I was responding to that guy in a more general sense. He said it's sad how people discover these differences. But it's not sad at all. It's a matter of expecting "gameplay footage" to be honest.

That said, you can pick out more differences than just the geometry on the turret. Changes in lighting\shaders being the biggest.

It's handy when people who have the "i'm beset by SJW white knight PC brigade" mindset identify themselves.

And here's the search for "ivy" in this thread so you can look through it yourself, come back and say "There's only, like, two other people who said "ugly" verbatim, that means nothing"

Are your eyes ok?

I'm guessing they've modelled Ivy after whoever the voice actress is playing her. Probably Sara Cravens.

Uhh...are your eyes ok? By that logic, David Tennant would be voicing Riddler in this.

Seems like they only redesign the characters based on actor/actresses look, nothing to do with their respective VA.

I prefer Poison Ivy to look slightly less human than AK's version, personally.

I always liked to think that her mutation/powers were literally and slowly turning her into a plant, with the visual implication that if left unchecked after a few decades all you'll find in her lair is a massive growth of flowers and vines with something like this at its core:

latest

(but plant like, not circuitry)

I don't know if her characterization in the comics ever hinted that she would even want this, but that's what I imagined.

Edit: Let's be honest though. For all intents and purposes, Poison Ivy should be nude, or practically nude with vegetation covering the private areas. She's obviously a naturalist. She would prefer not to wear clothes made of synthetic materials, and would definitely not kill plants to merely weave clothes out of. At most, she would have unharmed and casually strewn vegetation over (or even growing out of) some parts of her body. It's not my desire to see a comic character naked, but in this particular case it really makes sense to me. Notice I'm not suggesting Harley or Catwoman go nude.

So yea about that gameplay. How are they gonna top Arkham City's side content.

Well she actually has plants growing on her, so youre not crazy. Her hair that kinda looked like crazy bits of plants in the previous games looks very conventional now. My main gripe is still that basic facial structure elements have been changed to the point where she looks like a totally different person.

I have no idea, the Riddler is on board... will they clutter the environment with question mark trophies again? I liked them, but I'm not sure if this is the only way you can make the Riddler work and the environment less "empty".

I suspect the Batmobile is heavily implemented...maybe mini races, point A to point B... doesn't sound exciting though. You have to catch get away vehicle of a bank robbery on a regular basis or something.

More mini plots like the mad hatter encounter would be nice.

Just add more stuff like the Mad Hatter in obv with different chars and different plots.

There are probably gonna be annoying batmobile side missions too. Riddler stuff is sure to make a comeback.

Yes, that would be welcomed. By the way, I don't know how many people tried it out but you can visit many sidequest places with Selena in Arkham City and she often times has a small dialouge with enemies like Mad Hatter, Calender Man, Penguin etc.

Guess it's in my head.

I wasn't putting forward the idea that every character had been changed to look like their voice actors though. It just seems like they've tried to make everyone look more natural/realistic, and less like UE3 action figures.

An M rated Batman game. Can't believe Warner is actually going to push that bar....

I wouldnt count on it pushing the bar too much further than AC. They probably say a few more cuss words or something that just edge it over the bar for an M rating...but I suppose time will tell.

I made a post in that Rocksteady AMA about the supposed downgrade (framing it in the right way of course, so that it wasn't negative or anything) and now it's like the 300th comment on that page. Likelihood of them even seeing it is like zero now. Great.

You are probably right. I already felt that AC was pushing the limit for T rated games. It's just that Warner and DC have, in the past, been very particular about having Batman stay in the PG-13/T ratings. To see them give the 'go ahead' on M is just surprising.

Looks good.

I still need to get Origins.

Loved Asylum and will be playing City sometime soon in the future.

Nothing wrong with the character designs - I like them so far.
