The Virtual Console was 90% of the reason I bought a Wii.
Yea, the current state of it disappoints me a little.
2008 began nearly 4 months ago. How many games have been released that I've considered purchasing? Three. StarTropics, Lolo II, and Phantasy Star II. Oh, sure, there have been a few other games I have a mild interest in, like DoReMi Fantasy, Lords of Thunder, Super SFII, and Ninja Gaiden III.
But compare the output to last year.
From January through April of 2007, do you know how many 'must-have' games were released? 25. Twenty. Five.
Here's the list of games I purchased that were released during that time frame: Gradius, Kid Icarus, Kirby's Adventure, Excitebike, Galaga, Punch-Out!!, Castlevania, R-Type III, Zelda: A Link to the Past, Contra III, Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country, Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts, Gradius III, Legend of the Mystical Ninja, Mario Kart 64, Zelda: OOT, Star Fox 64, Comix Zone, Streets of Rage, Beyond Oasis, Wonder Boy in Monster World, Soldier Blade, New Adventure Island, and Bonk's Adventure.
And that doesn't even include the 'meh' games I downloaded like TMNT, Sonic Spinball, and Shockman. Having a high interest in the VC made it more likely for me to download those lesser games. But that interest has dwindled significantly.
Sure, it's all personal preference. But I think most would agree with me that the level of quality software has dropped off. And that's an understatement.
