Official bitching about Hudson abandoning VC support. [VC/WiiWare = lost cause]

Huh? What could this one be? AFAIK, there is no other console golf game called Mario Golf!

The N64 game is called "Mario Golf." That was released in Japan last month so that's what it most likely is.

Mario Golf is old news, already available on VC.

NOA said:
Mario Golf™ (Nintendo 64™, 1-4 players, Rated E for Everyone, 1,000 Wii Points): Mario™ takes a well-deserved break from his role as the Mushroom Kingdom’s busiest hero and returns to the links for some world-class golfing action. Since no one likes to hit the fairways alone, he’s brought along a group of friends—both familiar characters and brand new ones. Choose from 10 different modes of play and six 18-hole courses in a variety of environments for a golfing experience with endless replay value. Add in fun, colorful graphics with a Mario touch (a Boo indicates wind direction), intuitive controls, incredibly deep game play and multiplayer support (taunt your opponents), and you have a game anyone will enjoy—even if you’ve never played a round of golf. Fore!

Is it possible for a game to appear on the ESRB site after it has been released?

This. Games show up after release sometimes, particularly Nintendo's stuff since they tend to just release them out of nowhere.

I'd be happy with Sonic & Knuckles & Super Mario AllStars, but Nintendo's vision and mine hardly ever coincide in regards to the VC. :(

Mario's Super Picross is all I want, heck with help from the Wii Homebrew thread, I even changed my Shop Channel region to but it off the UK VC Shop. Sadly, that is one of the very few games that is still region locked despite homebrew.

I want to play that more than anything...

I doubt Ninty will fulfill my vision either...

Guessing time!

My guesses are Kirby's Dreamland 3, and Super Mario Kart.

You boys are going to be disappointed. :lol

Lufia II in just a few hours, obviously.
But realistically, Castlevania III and Phantasy Star IV would be nice.

hey jiggy, do you think EB will ever come? I mean, I know it won't but I want your opinion.
You know, if it was all up to NOA I'd say they're probably waiting until November 2014 or so, when they can sabotage it by releasing it when interest in VC is dead due to a run of 43 bad single-game weeks, Super Wii being in full swing with its retail library, the DS 2 Lite being on its way, and the holiday rush in full effect to kill people's wallets with retail games. Can't have Earthbound selling well, after all, because then they'd lose face for having shunned it for so long.

But eh, I wonder how much control NOA even has over what shows up on VC. If it's up to Nintendo of Japan, then... maybe.

Yaweee said:
VC games 'save state' whenever you exit via the home menu, right? Ogre Battle is just begging for that feature.
Late reply, but... Yes, and I completely agree.

Lufia 2 would be an incredible gift. Fantasies of getting games like that are why I'll buy Wii points on a Thursday but wait until Monday before I buy the games I had planned on. And my soul is beaten and crushed every single time. :lol

WII-KLY UPDATE: TWO WIIWARE GAMES AND ONE VIRTUAL CONSOLE GAME ADDED TO WII SHOP CHANNEL

Nov. 10, 2008

Are you hungry? Think of this week's Wii™ Shop Channel lineup as a lively menu that aims to satisfy every appetite. You'll find a food-themed game to tempt your tummy, a challenging brain game to please your noggin and a classic sci-fi action title to fuel your imagination. Whatever the recipe, you're sure to come back for seconds-and thirds, and fourths, and beyond.

Nintendo adds new and classic games to the Wii Shop Channel at 9 a.m. Pacific time every Monday. Wii owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points™ to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week's new games are:

WiiWare™

Brain Challenge™ (Gameloft, 1-4 players, Rated E for Everyone, 1,000 Wii Points): Just like your body, your brain needs to be exercised to stay in shape. Boost your brain and relieve stress through various minigames in a personal session to get a detailed evaluation. Challenge your friends' brains in delirious party games to see who is the smartest. Test your brain's abilities in Visual, Memory, Logic, Math and Focus minigames. Compare yourself with friends by challenging their brains in three multiplayer modes. Develop your resistance to stressful situations that could happen in real life. Use a customized Mii™ character to create personal sessions. Choose your favorite personal coach. Track your overall performance with detailed statistics and graphs. The special Kid Test and Senior Test modes will gather everyone around the game.

Yummy Yummy Cooking Jam (Virtual Toys, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone-Animated Blood, Comic Mischief, 1,000 Wii Points): Yummy Yummy Cooking Jam is a frenetically active cooking game in which you must serve food to your customers as quickly as possible. This could be a simple task, but the customers aren't very patient, and you'll find a multitude of annoying insects that make the noble mission of satisfying your small gourmets' stomachs much more difficult. In the game's Career Mode, your goal is to become the best chef in the city. To do so, you have to prove your worth by cooking in four fantastic restaurants: the Hot Dog, Hamburger, Pizza and Mexican Restaurant. Enjoy playing Yummy Yummy with your family, serving delicious food to the most surprising characters: vampires, ninjas, extraterrestrials and mafia thugs. Put on your chef's hat, sharpen your knives and turn up the heat.

Virtual Console™

Mega Man™ 3 (NES™, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone-Mild Cartoon Violence, 500 Wii Points): In the year 200X, the notorious Dr. Wily, now reformed and working for the forces of good, works hand-in-hand with Dr. Light to build a new type of peacekeeping robot. When a new set of eight Robot Masters escapes the lab to wreak havoc on the world at large, only Mega Man can save the day. This time, Mega Man must rely on his new slide move and canine companion Rush to conquer the stages and vanquish evil. A new character, Proto Man, adds to the mystery and appeal of this seminal title in the famous action-game series.

Single game weeks suck, but I can't see anyone having a problem with this one.

Kind of sad that Europe got MM1 and MM2 so much earlier than everyone else, but they'll be last to the MM3 party.

Should probably wait for that Genesis collection to come out next year instead of getting Phantasy Star on the VC. It'll be in HD too.

But yeah, where the fuck is my Castlevania III, Nintendo? >:(

Man, after Art Style titles and World of Goo, I was expecting a massive WiiWare season. Fucking awful week.

At least Mega Man 3 is finally here!

Actually, I'll be the spoilsport and claim that I'm moderately incensed. :D This marks the first time we've had three one game VC weeks in a row. Bad precedent - there should be obligatory pitchfork-waving, invective-spewing, and pants-dropping to make sure the powers that be know that they can't get away with it again. Of course, such actions haven't stopped the powers to be in the past, so I guess we're sorta stuck in a Catch-22, aren't we? :lol

two things. First, emulation is ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS lacking on those compilations. There hasn't been a single genesis compilation released yet that hasn't had some sort of emulation issues.

second, HD is shit on these games as it always uses some sort of filtering to hit it (obviously the games are nowhere near HD). For people who want the games displayed as they originally were, VC is the only option. Until these developers releasing these collections give us perfect emulation and the ability to output the native resolution on every game, it's pointless coming into the VC thread and recommending them as that's the only thing everyone in here is interested in.

It's only like 2-3 steps away from recommending one of those emulation collections to someone hunting down the original cartridges for the game. those collections just aren't nearly the same as playing it as it was originally meant to be played, at least visually and audibly.

Right, one bad week somehow discounts the fact that we've gotten fuck awesome games almost every week for the last month and a half :lol

I'd venture to say that for some people, getting 40 games for $30 instead of spending $8 a pop on them on the VC would trump pretty much every possible issue aside from Sonic randomly goatseing you in Sonic 3, but I guess I'm not hardcore enough.

well, let's face facts. In most cases, by today's standards these aren't the most amazing of games. Yes games like SoR hold up beautifully, but often if not always you can find a modern day equivalent that is just as "fun and shiny" as these classic collections. So it has to be asked, who are these releases targeting? If they are basically targeting the emulation casuals who already are downloading all of the Good packs and playing a game for 15 minutes before moving on to the next game, then sure. They are a great value. But if they're targeting people who either want to go back and play these games again, or people who want to see what the deal was on these games, you'd assume both of these camps would want the most authentic way available to them.

Which is of course what I was saying. If emulation to you is a fun distraction where you can play these games for 15-20 minutes each and get your 10 hours of entertainment from the disc, sure, it's a great value. But 99% of the people in this thread are here because they recognize the VC as pretty much the authority in classic console emulation. I was specifically saying coming into THIS THREAD and spouting off about some second rate collection hardly seems logical. The VC has outlasted plenty of other compilations and XBLA ports simply because its fans want exactly what it is providing, and what no other services/ports have provided yet. Native resolution output. Unfiltered (on everything except TG-16). Superior control. Perfect emulation. Third party software.

I just though I'd randomly mention it since this particular collection was only just announced, and not everyone spends 6 hours a day F5ing NeoGAF.

But, k.

eh, if the collection lives up and offers native res output and total lack of filtering along with near-perfect emulation and zero load times, I'll gladly eat my words. though understand all of those would also be firsts for one of these types of collections.

Mega Man 3 makes for a pretty solid VC week, I'd say. It's just gets insanely hard once you beat the first round of bosses and then have to tackle the MM2 clones.

why is saturn being mentioned, was something hinted at or is it just wishful thinking?

wishful thinking. the fact that sega hasn't released saturn emulation for ANY system is really the best indication.

Will download Mega Man 3 later for sure. :O The last of the NES Mega Man games that I haven't played before.

RedBoot said:

H-have you read this thread before? :P (I know you have.) I (and certain others) will always take issue with one-game weeks even when I expect to love that individual game, because it sets a bad precedent for a slower release schedule of future games which I may also love as much or more.

Not that our complaining will affect anything except for the whole catharsis deal, but eh.

Lost Fragment said:

I already have it portable on PSP, so I'm not sure I'd even buy PSIV if it released--but I still want to see it on VC simply so that other people can play it.

Wasn't there some Saturn emulation in the extra content of Panzer Dragoon Orta?

Original Panzer Dragoon
?

No, that was a port of the PC version, just like Sonic R in the Sonic Gems Collection. Unlike the guy who did the now quite good SSF emulator for PC, Sega doesn't seem able (or even willing to try) to make a competent Saturn emulator for anything.

Indeed... no ugly upscaling, no sometimes broken Digital Eclipse-style emulation... it's far from perfect (where is N64 controller/rumble/expansion pak support, etc?), but apart from actually owning the systems and games in question, it is definitely better than anything else other than emulation on a PC, for sure.

So far I've only bought 4 games for Virtual Console

Military Madness/TurboGrafx-16
Magician Lord/NeoGeo
Fatal Fury 2/NeoGeo
Samurai Shodown 2/NeoGeo

The execution of VC is good, but the game selection is piss poor IMO. There should be 10x or more games given all the libraries for the systems they have up there.

I mean, no HERZOG ZWEI for Genesis? WTF.

So, I'm impressed with the Megaman 3 emulation.

If you guys remember, if you held right on a NES pad in the second controller slot... Megaman would be able to jump to the top of the screen, and walk along the bottoms of pits.

It still works with a second wiimote in the VC edition.

As much as I love Mega Man 3, it's still disappointing to see a one-game week. Still, Mega Man 3...the best game in the classic series and arguably the best Mega Man game ever made. At least it's a one-game week with a good game.

Real men fight Shadow Man first. Are you a bad enough dude to defeat Shadow Man first?

Actually developed by Hudson... Capcom just published in the US, probably because they likely had the only NES Disney license at the time. Even beyond the license, I have no idea who'd have the rights now...

Strider Returns

This is actually a port of a computer game ("Strider II" on most systems) that was developed by Tiertex and published by U.S. Gold, and only licensed from Capcom. The computer versions were all Europe-only, we only got the Genesis and Game Gear versions. Do you really think Capcom would have the rights to it? (Either way of course, given its mediocrity, it wouldn't be worth it anyway...)

Bionic Commando (NOA disapproved)

Stupid NOA... :(

Little Nemo: The Dream Master

You wouldn't call it licensed, even though it's based off of an anime movie?

Sure the original cartoon's copyright has expired, but given that it's based more directly on the movie...
