Official bitching about Hudson abandoning VC support. [VC/WiiWare = lost cause]

This was quite excellent for a Junior Member. I applaud you!

This one will go far.

Thx for noticing.
Guess he's to busy rioting to take notice.
I'll get another chance someday, stay tuned

I still can't believe November is over and there are only 17 VC games. I know Nintendo has a history of ignoring quantity, but if they're trying to make an 'iTunes' I think they should really triple the game amount and soon.
umm.. we already know the what the exact list will look like by the end of december. c'mon people........

Could it be the ESRB that's the problem here? A lot of these games were never rated by the ESRB (because they predate its existence), but they sure do have ratings on the Wii now. If Nintendo is putting every game through the ESRB process before releasing it on the VC, it could explain the huge difference between the US and Japanese lists (Does Japan even have an ESRB equivelent?).

Yeah, they have CERO. Not sure if the Japanese VC games have to be submitted for CERO review though.

When you fight that ring boss, made up of a bunch of segments with one weak point, does that mean you beat stage 1? Or is he a sub boss?
Sub-boss. The real boss of stage 1 is a little while later.

Can anybody actually get past the third level of Super Star Soldier, or is it just some kind of impossible inside-joke?
I'm on stage 5. The trick I think is that the red weapon is the best for clearing the levels, suck for bosses.

Sub-boss. Don't even try to hit his weakpoint. Just keep firing and do nothing but try to get out of the way of the giant blueball weapon. He'll die in ~20 seconds.

Is Super Star Soldier anything like Tyrian? Can you upgrade your weapons? Are there a lot of different weapons? Do you upgrade your ship at all?

I think the green lightning is pretty kick ass for clearing levels. It kills the strong enemies ultra quick.

I'm only on the third level, but from what I know:

No, you cannot upgrade your ship.
Yes, you can change to multiple weapons, and you can upgrade them as well.
There are 4 or 5 different main weapons, and then shields, missiles, other crap that floats along with your ship.
And yes, it's good. BUT HARD.

Yea, I beat the ring guy pretty easy. But I died later, and wound up right back at the beginning of Stage 1. I was confused.

When I pick up a different weapon color, is my progression in the previous color totally lost? Am I starting from scratch whenever I switch colors?

I'm not sure how it works. Sometimes it'll give you more lives and let you keep going, other times it might start you back at the beginning.

No your progression stays where it's at. So if you have lvl 3 red and get a yellow, your lvl 3 yellow.

Sure, it's easier than stage 2 imo. The level 4 boss had me stuck for awhile but I got his pattern down. Just not down enough to guarantee victory everytime(I have problems getting past those green bird things he launches). Pretty annoying.

Also, I've only been skimming the thread but does everyone know about Super Star Soldiers 2 and 5 minute score attack modes? Hit the - button at the run screen to access em. 5 minute mode is quite addicting.

Um, hey guys, how do I get my wii remote to work with the VC? I just downloaded Super Star Soldier, and it's on the "Press Start" screen, but doing anything with either of my wii remotes makes the blue lights blink for a while, then stop blinking without turning on. I tried syncing them up again to no avail.

This happened to me when playing Wii Sports. I had to unplug my system. Everything was fine and dandy after that.

There's a powerup that turns your ship # icon gold. If its gold, you'll get another chance when you died. When I made it to the level 5 boss I lost 3 men :lol

I hope Nintendo has a slick 20gig harddrive in the works. Something small that just plugs into the USB port and lets you directly access the VC games.

I'm not sure why people are so against deleting games and then re-downloading them later if they want to. With the file sized we're talking about, the longest it will probably ever take to download a game will be a couple of minutes. Mario 64 took me under a minute, for example. I'd rather do that than pay for a harddrive that will most likely be overpriced anyway.

Seriously. A 20 gig HDD is completely unnecessary unless Nintendo starts delivering content that would need it. You get a gig or two SD card and it'll take care of your VC content.

I updated it a bit so you guys go to Wikipedia and read about the games if you chose to do so before purchasing them, because those Gamespot reviews are getting a tad ridiculous.

Switch Solomon's Key from TG-16 to NES

Might want to change the points.

Something like this for the OP.

fixed a bit.

Guys, the OFLC (aussie rating shite) has given some more games some rating, might mean they are coming to the US VC too...

NES : Gradius, Xevious.

SNES : Street Fighter 2 - The World Warrior, Super Castlevania 4, Super Probotector - Alien Rebels.

Wow, I'm really happy seeing Konami and Capcom support at least show up. Too bad the US is getting the big finger. Nintendo needs to make some goddamn announcements here for more releases. It's pitiful how bad the other territories are wiping the floor with the US list.

Midway needs to put Battletoads on there. They do own Battletoads, right, since they bought out Tradewest?
I thought Rare owned the Battletoads license? Tradewest just published it?

Yep. Midway. Though they may not know they own it.

Haleon said:

Rare developed it, but somehow they didn't have the rights to it. Tradewest owned it, Midway absorbed Tradewest, so Midway should have the rights to it (unless they sold 'em off for some insane reason).

I just got 2000 more Wii points... what should I spend it on? (Now I have 2300 total). I'm thinking Mario 64, Sonic, and......Zelda. That'll put me at a 0 balance. Or I could not buy Sonic and get Super Star Soldier instead...decisions, decisions!

(Or I could just wait till Monday's VC update and decide then.)

I'm waiting on the next updates. Is Dungeon Explorer any good? I want to play an RPG/adventure game that i haven't already played to death.

I'd wait. Besides, this Xmas surprise from Nintendo that's coming up might require points, so I'd really hold off until all that's been settled.

Dungeon Explorer is an RPG/adventure game? If so, I guess I'll give it a play.

Xmas surprise? Is this just another crap IGN rumor? I've honestly stopped believing any "surprise" style rumors since they almost never come true. :)

RARE managed to somehow get the old Battletoads IP secured during the MS buyout. It was in one of the PRs, but I remember people remarking on it...

Super Star Soldier is great fun with the Classic Controller.

I really hope we can start seeing more shooters come to the VC. It would be an awesome place to see original ones and some that never made it to the US.

I don't remember that being part of it. I'm pretty sure Midway still owns it. If Btoads was part of the Microsoft deal then why the hell haven't they put it up on XBLA? That would've been a nice bump for the Arcade service... Ugh.

btrboyev said:
battletoads was horrible anyways...what was it the second or third level that was impossible to beat?
The third level, and it is beatable. Its just tough and takes a lot of practice. But its fun.
