Official bitching about Hudson abandoning VC support. [VC/WiiWare = lost cause]

The SNES emulation still has a ways to go apparently since we're still missing key titles like Yoshi's Island and Star Fox. For what it's worth SFA2 was done on hardware beyond what's possible on the SNES and the fact that Capcom managed to accomplish anything with their port is saying a lot(and it's entirely possible that the cartridge used for SFA2 features some sort of chip that the VC's snes emulator hasn't quite perfected yet). Regardless it still falls under "what were they thinking?" along with VF2 Genesis since SFA2 snes hit around the same time as the far superior Saturn and PSX versions.

Unlike Sega who has for some godforsaken reason taken a liking to VF2 Genesis and shoved it onto every compilation/download service they can imagine I would think Capcom is a little bit better than that.
I'm just trying to drown out the possibility that SFA2 just might appear on the VC. If that means making things up just so I can sleep better at night then by all means...

(Seriously though Street Fighter Alpha Anthology features arcade perfect releases of all three Alphas plus a crapton of bonuses, why anyone can take interest in such lousy ports is completely beyond my realm of understanding).

Oh right, I over-estimated Nintendo's emulation competence again... :(

I knew how lousy the N64 emulation is (no controller pak or rumble pak support? What the heck? I wouldn't be surprised if there's no expansion pak support either...), but I'd forgotten that the SNES emulation is lacking too... yeah, there's got to be a reason none of the Super FX games are there, I'd agree. Are any games with extra chips in them on the VC, in fact? I'm not sure...

As for SFAII SNES, why not? Sure it's not as good, but it's amazing that they were able to do it at all... and it could be a lot worse. How about those 8-bit computer ports of SFII? :)

As for Sega, it really should be Virtua Fighter 1 32X on the VC, not II for Genesis, but they haven't done 32X or Sega CD emulation yet. :(

SNES SFA 2 was a good port if you consider its on the SNES... man that game has loadings on Saturn or PSone.. It was an impressive effort and i really enjoyed it.. yes the sound was not that great and all but cmon.. its like realizing Halo 3 on Xbox 1 with minor differences

I am surprised the Sega 32X isn't added yet. All it basically did was increase the amount of colors and slightly faster processor. Hell, they have Neo Geo and TurboGrax-CD games up.

That's anything but the truth. The 32x was a major upgrade and contained two 32 bit RISC processors running at 23mhz as well as a "GPU" much more advanced than what the standard Genesis had. Hardly trivial emulation.

About how much challenge would be involved in emulating Sega CD? Unlike 32x, there are actually a respectable number of games I'd buy for that.
Or, maybe more to the point, has Sega done successful ports of its Sega CD games in the past?

****. I had written a big reply to you when my browser froze up. To quickly summarize: No, the 32X was nothing more than very minor improvements to the Genesis (SOA executives knew this and convinced SOJ to turn it into a add-on rather than release it as a new system like SOJ wanted to). There were very few good 32X games that weren't available on other systems.

I'll say right now that if Sega added 32X support, I'd totally buy Knuckles Chaotix and Kolibri day one.

You know, I was going to say that the SEGA CD would consume far too much memory to be feasible, but then I remembered that they pulled off the TG-16's CD system pretty successfully. Now I don't know what to think.

As for ports, the only one I can name off the top of my head is the PC port of Sonic CD. That, and the Sonic Gems version of Sonic CD.

Just beat Lolo 2 after a total of six hours and 33 minutes. I love how the last only boss is basically
completely ceremonial and practically impossible to lose to
. Not that there's a plot to this series, but if there was, the boss fight would really bring it all together--I mean, if I was a super wuss like that I guess I'd want to construct some super crazy labyrinth of traps too to protect myself and avoid fighting.

What should I pick up first, Lolo 1 or 2?

Do you guys think Nintendo can somehow link up the DS with the Wii for Pokemon Stadium (of course only making it so old pokemon/moves can be allowed)- or at least throw up GB games on there and link it to Stadium - good times with that game.
Being able to transfer pokemon from VC gameboy games to the Wii game would be pretty brilliant.

The only reason 32x existed was so poor people like me who couldn't afford a Saturn could still play Virtua Fighter.

What a fucking squandered opportunity. I would've eaten up reduced versions of a lot of Saturn games, to be honest. And really, I liked it being on cartridge, in that a.) it lasted forever, b.) the load times were nearly nonexistent, and c.) it made the damn thing seem powerful ("WHOA, they're doing that on a cartridge?!").

Squandered, I tell you.

I'd give the slight nod to Lolo 1 for a better difficulty curve. Lolo 2 hits its most challenging point by far at level 5-2, which is kind of bizarre... And, to me at least, overall it was a harder game. I felt a bit like they expected players had already gone through the first one and were fairly familiar with the mechanics. (But maybe that was just my impression.)

For 32X, I'd definitely pick up VR DLX, Chaotix, Tempo, Kolibri, Zaxxon 2000 and VF1. It had excellent After Burner and Space Harrier conversions too, but I'm not that big a fan of either.

Too bad most of the promising 3rd party 32X stuff (DarkStalkers, Rayman, Castlevania, etc) got canned. :/

Stranger than strange: on my Wii dashboard, the Wii Shop window is dominated by a Street Fighter 2 image (Ryu). I guess that we will have Super Street Fighter 2: The New Challengers during the night :)

(I'm in Europe)

Just you wait when you'll play Lolo3. The difficulty step will eat you alive.

Sounds like Halo 3's final boss fight.
:D

I kid, I kid.

So I downloaded Shining Force.

Love it so far. Definitely a less stressful game than Fire Emblem, but it's kind of nice that way.

I want to try a Shining Force game (I've never tried the series before) but I'm waiting on Shining Force 2, seeing as it's supposed to be better than the original in every way.

However, with each week Shining Force 2 doesn't come out, I'm more and more inclined to just bite the bullet and download the first one. Of course, me buying the first one will guarantee that the second one will come the subsequent Monday. Things always work out that way for me.

At least Bubble Bobble came out, though.
:D

Buy it now; there's still time before JSnake's Friday news! :( Only you can make Shining Force 2 happen, just as you did for The Dynastic Hero.

Actually, even in seriousness, I'm trying to be optimistic. I might hate only getting two games per week, but so far they are four for six on providing good and/or popular titles: King of Fighters '94, Star Tropics, Adventures of Lolo 2, Super Street Fighter 2... I'll hold out for Shining Force 2, although I'll probably be disappointed again. D:

Alright, NeoGAF, I'll take one for the team. I'll download Shining Force when I get a chance later today. I wanted to try it anyway.

Let's see if I can make the Dynastic Miracle reoccur.

Just Super Street Fighter II' in EU land

Now how is that fair? We get half of the update America got this week! >=(

I love Street Fighter, but I'll give the SNES version of Super a miss. Turbo shall remain my VC Street Fighter.

Lolo 2 had better not be far away!

Seems like the VC have really slowed down in the new year. Bloody shame because there's still loads of great games that we won't see for months, if not longer.

At the very least, maybe the +2 SF sales generated from this thread in less than a 12-hour period will help to force Sega's hand for next week even if not this one.

...Yeah, I know.

Edit: And Nintendo would probably get in their way anyway just to spite us. >:(

This's weeks update. North America got 1 new game, and both got Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers.

Games available in Europe and not North America: Mega Man (NES), Mega Man 2 (NES), Skate or Die! (NES), Mario's Super Picross (SNES), 1080° Snowboarding (N64), Vectorman (GEN/MD), Crack Down (GEN/MD), ESWAT: City Under Siege (GEN/MD)

Games available in North America and not Europe: The Legend of Kage (NES), Elevator Action (NES), Tecmo Bowl (NES), Milon's Secret Castle (NES), Lode Runner (NES), Star Soldier (NES), Adventure Island (NES), NES Play Action Football (NES), Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels (NES, it's no longer available in Europe), Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos (NES), Zanac (NES), Ghosts 'n Goblins (NES), Adventures of Lolo 2 (NES), Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV: Wall of Fire (SNES), Metal Marines (SNES), Pac-Attack (SNES), Ecco Jr. (GEN), Eternal Champions (GEN), Bravoman (TG16), Ordyne (TG16)

Total: 8 in Europe, 20 in North America

Australia/New Zealand is the same as Europe, except they have Axelay (SNES) instead of Super C.

That's how I feel about Tetris Attack. And that's only one of the games I want. I'd forgive Nintendo if they released Destiny of an Emperor though.

Edit: Heh. Just as I'm criticizing Nintendo yet again for their poor treatment of VC, some actual good news shows up. :lol ...Nonetheless, just like the rest of VC, Master System will probably never see the least bit of promotion except perhaps the week or two when it launches, and that makes me just the slightest bit upset. :/ Nonetheless, I'm sure there'll be games I'll enjoy, so from that more limited and/or self-centered standpoint, this is pretty nice news.
Now I just have to go figure out which games those are, since--wouldn't ya know it--I put together lists of stuff I'd want if Sega CD, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, or Saturn were one day supported by VC, but not Master System. :lol

Edit 2: Okay, after finding out that Game Gear games are included in the Master System support, I'm quite a bit more hyped than before! I guess tonight is a night for both celebration and criticism, then, at least for me.

So, get this: SMB, Zelda 1, Kirby's Adventure, Super Metroid, Star Fox 64, and others will have time-limited demos in Smash Bros. Brawl. And the Japanese site also shows this to be true of Earthbound and Fire Emblem 3--at least, I suppose, in Japan.
Actually advertising games available on VC? Making the service visible to Wii owners? Letting people know it exists? Shocking. But hey, Sakurai does what Nintendon't.

Get with it, Nintendo. You've been shown up by your former employee twenty times over. (Well, actually it's probably significantly more than twenty times over, but who's really counting?) (Alternative sarcastic comment: In reality it's infinity times over, since Nintendo's promotion of VC to this point has been exactly nil, with people like us being the ones selling it via word-of-mouth. :|)

But putting my mini-rant aside for a moment, I'm sure there are people who might be interested in VC a little bit, but not enough so to try classics like Super Metroid and Earthbound (if it ever shows up in NA) sight-unseen, so hopefully this can get them some more exposure. Whatever the case, since Brawl comes out in Japan in the slightest bit under one week, hopefully we'll find out soon enough exactly how many trial games are available, more details on the length of time they can be played before it kicks players out, whether there'll be some third-party trials, etc.

Again, though... A good show for Sakurai IMO, but it casts the most negative of lights on Nintendo for being negligent and not having done this much sooner--it's especially striking when I consider just how many more resources the company has available to it than this single development team.

I hope this means Earthbound will be on the VC sometime soon.

Please please oh god please.

Lords of Thunder? Excellent. Psychosis? From the one YouTube video I found--that I won't link to, because it seems to be the last boss--the only thing I'm inclined to think is "why bother?" Releasing another horizontal shooter in the same month, and one that looks vastly inferior? Strange.

Incidentally, I have a love/hate relationship with Hudson announcing the month's releases ahead of time. On the one hand, I know LoT is coming, and this is great and spawns :)s, ^_^s, and the like. On the other, I know that March 3rd is the earliest possible date I could be playing the likes of Ys Book I & II, Dragon Slayer, or Do Re Mi Fantasy, and this is not and spawns :(s, ;_;s, and their ilk.

I did not observe this.. And I'm using the very latest firmware update. Strange!

Do remember non-TG Hudson games (Like Do Re Mi) can be released anytime, they never list them on vc-pce.
Oh, yeah--given the URL, I guess that makes sense. >_>

Edit: Time to get my blind hope up that this and Shining Force 2 will be known for Monday tomorrow.
