Official bitching about Hudson abandoning VC support. [VC/WiiWare = lost cause]

As long as there are at least three games and at least one of them is worth playing, I'll consider the week a success. Alternatively, the launch of Master System--but, again, even for that I'd say at least three games or bust, lest this become a Neo Geo situation where it goes up on VC and proceeds to have not much of anything ever show up.

Quick question: I have 1000 extra Wii Points, and I've been thinking about getting into Street Fighter. Should I purchase Street Fighter II Turbo, or wait for one of the later versions to come out?

Super Street Fighter 2 by a huge margin.

Don't let the tournament people get to you about how SF2:T is the better game. Super SF2 has tons more options of play (vs. cpu, tournament), more characters (4 more), and it has the turbo options also. Sure Turbo might be better balanced, but you won't care about that starting out (and I'm willing to bet that half the people that bitch about it have never been to a tournament anyway so their opinion on that is pretty much void.).

I wish they had come up with a solution for ghost data trading on the VC, that was the best thing about this game years ago.
Holy crap that would be perfect.

I'll go try to get a time good enough to post. :lol

also tomorrow JSnake will come in and tell us that Earthbound is coming next week, just you wait and see.

My friend just made a good point:

He thinks #200 will be Smash Bros.

It makes sense. :\

It's not a bad game or anything, but who really wants it when the new one is just around the corner? No one.

I believe the people on Gaf's Smash Threads would love SSB to come out. I know I would.

Good for them. I'd rather wait for the new one. Why pay for the same experience twice? This is not the same as, say, snubbing the original Metroid because Prime 3 just came out. The older SSB is just a downgrade of what we're going to get soon. Why bother?

If anyone can convince me otherwise, have at it. I'd love to be proven wrong. Lord knows we need another decent VC game. The past several months have been shit.

It won't be Super Smash Bros., anybody who thinks it will be will just be dissapointed.

If the past is any indication, they would release it on March 3rd/10th.

I probably wouldn't bother with SSB64 even if it came out. I mean, it does maybe two or three things better than Melee, but Melee does ~118 things better than SSB64. And then there's Brawl, which does at least 257 things better than Melee--and that's without even stepping outside the soundtrack.

Ugh. I shudder at the fact that I actually know what you're talking about.

I wander into the OT section for, like, the first time ever, and the first thing I see is a thread about JSnake's...medical problems... >_> Never again.

The only things that Smash 64 do better than its predecessors is have Hyrule Castle and Saffron City as stages and have Ness and Kirby as top-tier characters.

Well, that and the nostalgia factor.

Personally, I'm pulling for a good SNES or Genesis game. I've got 800 points waiting in the wings and I'd like to use them on something. Shining Force II, Earthbound, SMRPG, Kirby Super Star...all good stuff. Earthbound obviously being my preference. However, I'm expecting Lords of Thunder more than anything. Kirby's Dream Land 3's rating is also making me think we'll get it soon...

I hope at least one of those games comes out for VC soon. I thought the VC would maintain a good release schedule seeing how it's easy money for Nintendo and how many quality titles there are in those systems combined but apparently I was mistaken. I might have to buy re-buy a SNES and a N64 at this rate.

I don't even want to know about this JSnake thing. And by that, I mean that I immediately went to OT for the first time ever to find out and now wish I didn't know.

Anyway, yeah, this week had better have something good. I hinted as much earlier, but to clarify further, there's no excuse if the week of game 200 has nothing decent, considering what selections are out there to choose from. Even if I was limited to only stuff already rated or released in another region (and not requiring too much translation, or already-translated), there's all this:

NES: Mega Man, Mega Man 2
Genesis: Mega Turrican, Pulseman, Shining Force II, Vectorman, Warsong
SNES: Do Re Mi Fantasy, Mario's Super Picross, Super Turrican
TG16: Final Soldier, Lords of Thunder

Just have a three(+) game week along with putting up even one of these (one!) and/or launching Master System, and I'll consider the week a return to form. Not saying that I even care about all these games--there are some in that list that I wouldn't bother with--but at least they're generally considered worthwhile. And I've probably missed a decent number of games, even.

PEGI update: Hudson's Adventure Island.

vc-pce lists Lords of Thunder for the US Monday.

Japan gets Super C and Cosmo Gang the Puzzle on Tuesday.

We've (VC-Reviews) managed to have an exclusive interview with the director of Butterfly Garden, a WiiWare game. The game itself might not appeal to too much people, but the interview gives some insight on the WiiWare process and such.

Just how bad is Donkey Kong Country 3? I've heard it was kind of shit in the past.

It's not bad.

It's just that by the time you've gone through DKC and DKC2, it just feels really 'been there, done that'.

Try to imagine playing Mega Man 5 or 6 after playing Mega Man 2 or 3. It's a lot like that. More of the same.

Although, I think the absence of Diddy hurts a little. But that's my opinion.

DKC3 was overlooked by a lot of people originally because it came out in November 1997, 2 months after the N64 had launched.

SMD is right. It's a good game, but basically more of DKC2.

I loved DKC, played it for years.

I adored DKC2 with all my heart, (it was practically the first game that I owned... my older brother owned all of the other NES and SNES games, and guarded them fiercely) and played it for years.

I rented DKC3... and felt only mild disappointment that I hadn't gotten a level or two farther in when I had to return it.

Compared to DKC2 and DKC, that's bad. :P

I recently rediscovered DKC3 and am glad I did. It's actually quite engrossing once you get to the second or third world. Dixie and Kiddy essentially serve the same function as Donkey and Diddy.

The N64 did not come out in 1997.

Problem with DKC3 is that the characters are not as interesting as a combination of Diddy and Dixxie. Also, the level design is generally more boring imo.

It did in Europe. March 1st, DKC3 was released November 19th 2006. Still pretty damn close to each others.

Btw, I was slightly disappointed by DKC2, it felt so boring and uninspired compared to DKC. I wonder if DKC3 would be any better IMO.

As I didn't have an SNES as a kid, I missed out on the DKC experiance, except for the first one, which my best friend owned. I remember playing that game for hours, blown away by the grapics and the fluid motions of the characters.

Even now, despite owning an SNES and DKC and DKC3, I've yet to play 2. I've been meaning to pick it up,-- because come on, it's Diddy-- but I wanted to know what makes it so special. Is it just the feel? Because really, that's enough.

I like it for the music and the pirate theme.

But I do feel DKC was an overall better game.

Also, DKC2 has a lot of really slow-paced levels that are really long. The pace of the game can slow down an awful lot during certain levels(especially when you have to play as the spider or the parrot). But this is a very minor complaint. I'd suggest buying it on the VC. I don't think you'll regret it.

DKC2 is the total improvement of DKC. More levels, more bonus, more intricate and inspired level design, better locales and some of the best soundtrack for a platformer EVER.
It's one of the best games ever made. Easily in my top 3 of best 2D platformers ever. It also did age very good.

DKC2 is the best 16-bit game ever made.

I know a lot of people will throw out some RPGs or games with Yoshi and/or Mario, but they are incorrect.

Donkey Kong Country 2 and 3 are both heavily underrated with superb gameplay and difficulty.

If they were released on the Sega Saturn with zero sales you gamers would of been slapping your dicks all over it.

Donkey Kong Country 3 only really suffers from the un-iconicness of it all, but has the best level design and difficulty curve. It's also kinda short, I beaten it in 4 and a half hours (I don't think it counts all the times I got a game over.) It's also the return of the heavy character, so Dixie Kong doesn't hog your time forever (what WAS special about Diddy? Nothing!)

Also, DKC3 was the only Donkey Kong Country game that actually had some pretty good boss battles!

DKC1 is good-but-not-great gameplay and good-but-not-great level design mixed with a great soundtrack that elevates its status a bit.

DKC2 destroys and decimates DKC1 in every way, is better than any (non-Yoshi) Mario game ever produced both in its own era or in others, has no pacing issues and is in every way an eminently-fast gameplay experience, brings one of the most consistently high-quality original soundtracks in gaming history, provides excellent level design, controls superbly, is every bit as enjoyable today as it was then, and should be played. Immediately.

DKC3 sucks.

Well, that's good and good. Now as long as there are three games this week, we can start looking back on track.

DKC3 was the game that started Rare down the path towards Banjo-Tooie, DK64 and SFA.

Fuck you Banjo Tooie is possibly the best game ever made! YOU TAKE THAT BACK BITCH!

Oh and DKC3 rocks, just not as much as DKC 2 (Also one of the best games ever made :D)

DKC2>>>>>>>>DKC3>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>DKC1 basically.

Actually I think all the DKC games were good to be honest.

3 I don't like what they did with the brother bears, and the whole world map, but everthing else was great. The music too.

Donkey Kong is a perfectly average platformer. It's as bread-and-butter as you can get. It's easy, has pretty graphics, and it's very accessible. It's absolutely nothing special, but it's decent enough. It's got a nice soundtrack, though, I'll give it that. The music is extremely ambient for a 2D platformer.

Donkey Kong Country 2 is amazing. The difficulty level is exponentially higher than that of the original DKC, and the game benefits for that. The generic jungle and cave settings of the first game give way to more elaborate - and more hostile - areas, like dark swamps, bee hives, volcanoes, creepy amusement parks, and haunted forests. The soundtrack goes from quiet, ambient background noise to a sweeping masterpiece of video game music. The secrets are better hidden, the bonus games are more engaging, and the pacing is perfect. DKC2 is not only the best Donkey Kong game, but it's also one of the best platformers of all time. It's better than any platformer on the SNES that doesn't have "Yoshi" in the title.

Donkey Kong Country 3 is a massive disappointment in comparison. The music is bland, the environments are boring (wood mills? Seriously?), the level design is pedestrian and relies too much on stupid gimmicks, and the game just has a "phoned-in" feeling. DKC3 honestly feels more like a cheap imitation of a Donkey Kong Country game than a true entry in the series.

DK '94 on Game Boy is better than any of these Rareware games.

It's better than DKC3 and you could make an argument for it being better than DKC1, but better than DKC2? No way.

Plus, apples, oranges, and so on.

Since this is for the week that Brawl was supposed to come out, I'm hoping for Kirby Superstar or Smash Bros. Or blow my Sega nostalgic dreams away and give me Sonic 3 & Knuckles. Or launch Sega CD games with Sonic CD.

I remember this being an issue a while back but never payed close attention to it, wish I would have.

Baseball Stars 2 is fucked up, shows up scrunched on the top half of the screen. What is the fix for this??
