I knew about the no-female part (which will annoy her, but not stop her from trying to get every girl in the game to fall in love with her guy), but I wasn't aware that the N64 game was dramatically better than the SNES version. The translation part I'd understand, but for some reason I thought the mechanics of the SNES game were supposed to be better. Interesting...
 
I think I lost a few days of my life to Harvest Moon back in the day... can't afford to do that again. :lol

Absolutely. on the regular settings the game is quite easy, but there are also several difficulty settings to adjust it to your liking.

Lords/Winds Of Thunder is an absolute classic in my book.
I just love all the different bullet patterns for all the enemies and it's actually one of my favorite horizontal shooters as I normally love vertical ones so much more.
I'll re-buy this one when it comes out over here simply to support these kinds of games. Who knows, we might even get a sequel if there's enough interest shown. ;)
 
Good pair of games, though it's still lame to not get 3 games a week, and it's also lame that there was no mention of the 200 games milestone.

Still, can't complain since this is much better than it's been for a few weeks.
 
For anyone expecting a glorious celebration of game #200, this has to be a disappointing week.

However, putting that aside, this is actually one of the better weeks in a while.

I am not too interested in Harvest Moon, but I can recognize that something like that is great for the service to have. For those of you that do want the game, $8 on the VC sure beats the inflated prices it's apparently fetching on Ebay.

Lords of Thunder definitely has my attention though. Gate of Thunder was a brilliant game, and while Lords seems like a "sequel" in name only, it still looks phenomenal in its own right. I'll most likely be downloading it.

Soldier Blade (TurboGrafx-16) is my favorite of the dozen shooters I've downloaded so far. I'm looking forward to LoT, and still waiting for Life Force.

We just had the weeks of Adventures of Lolo 2 + Super Street Fighter 2, Star Tropics + King of Fighters '94, and Pokemon Snap + Baseball Stars 2 + Ghosts 'n Goblins within the last two months. Not that I personally care about all of those games, but each week had one fairly big title along with lesser-known stuff that's earned more than a few devoted fans--which is pretty much what this week is, as well.
 
I really want to try Mickey Mania and other Disney platformers from SNES/Genesis, so I wish Nintendo would do some arm twisting and get these games ASAP.

Except that TMNT wasn't a miracle. It would only have been a miracle had it been a good game.

I don't know. I'm still holding out hope that this is just a temporary phase, perhaps brought about by Nintendo/SEGA prepping the Master System, or Nintendo putting their efforts into WiiWare, or Nintendo preparing a massive advertising blitz for Earthbound on VC in order to prepare the way for Mother 3 DS in North America oh God who am I kidding why do I do this to myself.

Clearly, I am the modern-day reincarnation of Pollyanna. [/shameless Earthbound reference.]

TMNT also wasn't so much a miracle as a movie promo. I'm still amazed they haven't done II-IV yet.

Because there are no more movies to promote. :/

Still, even despite the fact that it was clearly a movie promotion, I was still rather amazed that Konami, Nintendo, and Ubisoft managed to work something out.

I'm sure that the other Ninja Turtles games are completely possible. I mean, the sequel is on XBLA. It's just that without further movies to promote, I guess there's no interest on the part of Nintendo, Konami, and Ubisoft.

But several of the Capcom Disney games were re-released on GBA... if they could work together for that, surely they could work together and release games on VC too.

Now, that doesn't help with titles from other publishers, like Virgin's Genesis Aladdin or Jungle Book (from the studio that would become Shiny), or their The Lion King (for lots of platforms), etc), but the Capcom games should be possible anyway. It's kind of surprising that we haven't seen any of them yet, actually... same for the other TMNT games. II, III, IV, and SNES Tournament Fighters are fantastic games! NES and Genesis Tournament Fighters are forgettable, though.

As for Mickey Mania... it was published by Sony. Unless they port the Genesis or Sega CD versions to PSN or something, which seems extremely unlikely, it's not going anywhere.
 
That's actually true. I had completely forgotten that some of the Capcom Disney games had been rereleased on the GBA.

Alright, more to hope for and be disappointed in! Because disappointing its fans is Nintendo's raison d'etre.
 
the hope for duck tales and duck tales 2 on vc is tantamount to the return of jesus for me. it keeps me chugging along in this work-a-day world

I'm trying to. But Nintendo already attempted to to throw away any residual good will I have by doing their level best to screw up the single greatest thing they've got going for them, Nintendo DS, by shifting resources away from it, so I figure that messing up the second greatest thing must have been next on the agenda. And as for the future: WiiWare to get zero advertising! :D

If saturday or monday was a holiday, you could get an extra day out of the deal. So one year the fourth of July was on one of those days and I rented the game. I finally beat Death Mountain and got to the rest of the game I was missing. By the last day of the rental I was on the road to the final palace, and after searching around for some extra lives I make the evil trip up the final pass. I make it to the final palace with no lives left and one single silver of health left, and not enough magic to heal. The first mob I meet wipes me out. When the continue screen comes up I shut off the system, pack the game up, and go with my mom to return it a few hours earlier than I could have kept it to.

I ask you thread, what hadn't I done?

The later half of the game is really really unforgiving, and you gotta break out those old style NES skills to beat it...Thunderbird espically, my god how cheap are those fireballs? I totally agree about the music, oatmeal, you had to have heard the Brawl remix to it? Amazing.

You were pretty much right there - the last temple inside though is pretty tough with the birdguards. The last time I seriously played it, I was 6/7, but now it's a bit more bearable.

I suggest you VC it, and just beat it to say you did ;p

In all fairness, I haven't exactly seen Microsoft or Sony doing much to advertise their DLC services either. It's a problem all across the board, not solely Nintendo's. The only true form of "advertising" that I've ever seen the XBLA receive was that retail disc with Geometry Wars and a handful of other games that don't matter. As for PSN, you hardly ever hear about that, either.

However, as I'm sure all of our parents have told us at one time or another, "everyone else is doing it" isn't an excuse and we shouldn't let Nintendo slide either. It would be great to see the VC as a major part of the console's focus instead of a thing that only a small sect of the hardcore care about. :/

Hehehe. I beat it a few years ago when the Zelda Collector's Disk came out. Beat it the day I got it as a matter of fact.

The thing about that story is that YOU CAN CONTINUE IN THE GREAT PALACE! I had four or more hours to beat the game! Thunderbird probably would have kicked my ass, but maybe not!

It's hard when you don't really like the direction that any of the consoles are going. >_>

Man, keep talking like this and I'll have to revoke the title of Pollyanna! Think about it carefully, as that title has really good stat growths and a neat costume change!

Nintendo DS development will keep on trucking as it always had. I mean, they pretty much threw together the incredible Days of Ruin in a few months, they have an absolute boat load of RPGs coming from Monolith, and who knows what not announced for this year.

Yes, I dislike all the current-gen home consoles to varying degrees. But the thread is about VC and kind of about Nintendo by proxy, so I'm sticking fairly closely to talking about that.

The falcon knights, as I like to call them, are intense. The upward stab is most useful against them as they leap into the air.

Don't forget that the DS had crappy third party games for a long time too. The amount of good third party Wii games will increase too as it finally settles in third party minds that Wii will not lose its #1 spot this gen.

That's what I'm hoping for.

Of course, even if third party developers do realize that the Wii is here to stay, the question is the quality of the games we're going to recieve. The DS is getting some stellar third-party titles. I'm only hoping that developers actually put the same effort into their Wii games when the time comes and not just use it as a minigame compilation dumping ground.
