Official Fable II Thread

That's the free patch for people to play co-op with someone that has the expansion installed. You'll notice two patches, one that says "free" and another that says "premium." As far as I can tell, the former is just the co-op patch and the latter is the actual expansion.

Im at work in the uk and just got it over xbox.xom. Should be downloaded for when i get home... wonder if i can leave early...!..!!!

I'm about mid-way through the game. Does the expansion require a brand new game to activate or can my existing character find the location?

The game is hitting and missing with me, though I've been playing every night for a week. The combat is decent and some of the dungeons, like The Crucible, are great. Some of the RPG elements, like The Spire, are also quite bold. It's not nearly an open world game though, it's more like every region is but a dungeon with some areas to explore and a town. At this point there doesn't seem like there is enough item and spell variety to make radically different heroes. Choices aside they would all turn out tactically the same, though I've finally got the hang of the magic system and am getting off various spells rather quickly and effectively.

I am staying clear of most social interactions because that is obviously a monstrous time sink. Marriage looks even more tedious than it is in real life. I don't know how Peter could have managed that. I like the living, breathing treasure chests idea though so I'll throw out a few emotes to unlock those when they're ready to pop. That's it though. At least these minions don't have cell phones like those fuckers in GTA4 did.

They've obviously extended the duration of the game with a fair bit of backtracking for treasures and with quests involving nothing but instanced monsters. Sometimes these make no logical sense. For example, I was at the Gypsy Camp and decided do to a Bounty Hunter job. So I went to Bowerstone, got the job, which said there were bad guys where? Back at the Gypsy Camp. Apparently the constable KNEW the bad guys would attack the camp as soon as I left the camp to get the job to save the camp...

So it seems fun enough to breeze through without worrying about being a completionist. Without buying a home or any of the other finance stuff I've already got Master weapons and the finest clothes. There is really nothing left in this regard so I'll just push on through the main and anything else that is right there in front of me to do.

DLC Spoilers, well not so much spoilers but I used the tags just to be safe.

So I got my dog back. I'm pretty happy about that. And there are tons of new potions and some new dyes available. Scar-removing, weight-reducing and weight-increasing potions are a few examples.

Title update seems to have fixed the title screen bug where when trying to press down to select continue it would scroll all the way down to the bottom.

Thank christ, that was a real pain.

Anyone got any impressions of the DLC so far? I might buy it, but if it's bad, might back off.

Well....I finished it in about 2 and a bit hours. It's a fairly decent little romp but I expected more from it. There's some really cool new potions, the armour looks pretty decent and it's reflective of your purity. No new enemies though, no boss or anything like that.

As far as gameplay goes theres not a lot too it to be honest. Hopefully the next DLC is something with more meat to it.

That was going to be my first question (How much content is in the DLC). $10 for 2 hours of content a little leaner than I'd like, but I might get it anyway. I saved 800 points just for the DLC, so I might as well use it for something I know I'll enjoy, even if it is a bit brief.

After 3 plus years and two 360s I got my first RROD yesterday. Heh, not bad I'd say at this rate. It happened when my daughter was playing Banjo (she will not stop playing this game). So I a got the coffin on the way for that, but I traded in one of my PS3s for another 360 which is being overnighted (all out at my local GS). So I should be able to hit this up tomorrow. My daughter can then use the one being retrurned from now on, haha.

I read about four hours if you don't rush right through it. That means I'll probably hit about 3 or so. Anyhow, does it follow up on the storyline? Keep ya hooked again? Look forward to this and the F3 DLC incoming later this month.

Well, downloaded the "patch" and fired up my save file on my friends copy of the game and lo and behold. Still stuck in the spire with no way out.

Thanks bunches Lionhead for your still buggy and unplayable game. For a moment I thought if you had fixed the game I might get the game again and actually buy the DLC but forget it, i'm blacklisting your shit now.

It doesn't follow up on the storyline at all, it's entirely seperate.

Basically when you arrive, Knothole Island is in a perpetual winter. The islands weather system is controlled via Totems. You will need to go into 3 seperate dungeons to reclaim the totems and take back control over the weather system. Theres nothing to spoil really, as thats basically the description of the DLC.

It's a basic quest that uses Knothole town (basically a few shops and 3 residential houses) as it's center point while the 3 dungeons are situated within about 20sec jogging distance from Knothole itself. If you took the entire region into account, it's about the size of Oakfield, not including the dungeons. The dungeons on average aren't particularly big, each is about the same size as the Hobbe Caves, with a reliance on floating orb puzzle elements to progress rather than combat. Combat plays a surprisingly small role in the quest.

I personally haven't collected all the books just yet, and in order to get all the special items for the last achievement in the DLC requires more simply fetching items, many of which can't be found on Knothole so you'll end up going back to Albion to purchase those items before returning. I haven't completed this task either but it's not really a quest of sorts, more that you are exchanging regular items you might find in Albion for a special item. That shouldn't take anymore than an hour at most.

Unless you are going for all the achievements the main quest or content in Knothole is rather short, collecting the books or exchanging items for the special items in the Knothole shop seems more like a way to artificially lengthen the DLC.

I don't regret getting it, I did enjoy going through it but there is definitely not a lot to it.

Is the resurrection shrine what some of us guessed it was back when it was revealed? Or something entirely different?

EDIT: Just read the spoiler up above. Question no longer requires an answer.

Little surprised it doesn't follow up on the storyline. Surely somewhere down the line they will. I could of sworn I had heard Peter hinting at doing just that. Could be wrong there and they save all the main storyline stuff for Fable III, which from one my recent OXMs is now in pre-production. I would still like to see more on that beforehand though.

Pretty sure it is that from what I've read. Unlike some others I'm pleased about that. Oh yea, we need fishing in this game ASAP Lionhead. In some form please.

I think he was hinting that there was more DLC that would follow the story.

Fuck it, I am the only one to play this game in slow mo ?

The more I played, the slower the game became, specially in towns. I reached Bloodstone recently and it's a real and horrible slideshow. Am I the only one ? Is it a glitch ? Is there any solution ? Do Microsoft Studio have a policy about polishing the games they publish (Ninja Gaiden 2, Gears of Wars 2, now Fable 2...) ?

Are the achievements relatively easy? Or something complex like the Dollcatcher achievement?

I just finished everything in the DLC. I took my time and found what appears to be all the items, and got all the achievements. It took about 4 hours.

I know it has been said with other DLC, but this one really feels like it was originally meant to be included in the game. It doesn't continue the story in any way, or even really have any connection to it. It feels like one of the many other side quests in the game, rather than an expansion. It would have been more fun playing it a bit at a time while playing through the main game.

Still fun though, and it's nice to have armor now. I hope a real expansion to the game is coming though.

Is the armor only available in the Premium DL?

Good question and I'm not sure. I'd assume that you can't get the armor yourself (it is all found in the dungeons of the DLC), but someone could give it to you if they didn't want it. That's my guess anyway.

Need pics of the armor!

You can see both sets here:

http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/56659

The second set changes a bit depending on your alignment. Mostly it just gets brighter/darker and the glow in the helmet changes color.

Can I put the expansion on a memory stick or something, then onto my Xbox?

Yeah, I don't have Live. :(

Edit: I also lack common sense. Help me.

I loved that quest. Finding all the unique buildings to buy and the associated quest with each one was a nice bonus to getting rich. The farmhouse quest was my favorite.

How in god's name are you guys amassing the funds to buy the castle? The most gold I've ever had was around the 120,000 mark.

I have a save file right at the choice you need to make at the end of the game. If I choose "The Sacrifice", is it true that the DLC I can undo all the negatives of that decision?

Does anyone, anyone know where puny carrots are sold?? It's the last thing I need to trade with the woman in Knothole Island. Pleeeease, someone help.

Look around and the more poor produce shops, like the ones in Bowerstone Old Town, Westcliff, and Bloodstone.

I didn't know you'd be able to
get your dog back
in the DLC. If I'd known that I wouldn't have done the
love
ending and have everyone in the game silently judging me :(

Buy real estate and jack up the renting prices to +100%. Use the money you earn to buy more houses, stores, etc. It all snowballs and eventually you'll roll in 20k gold every so often and 250k gold overnight.

That first town after the gypsy camp, when I first went there I didn't leave until I owned every set of property, including the lower part of the town.

By the time I got to the second town i had enough money to buy everything right away and did the same thing for the other towns. After owning everything at regular rents(never raised them), i forget, but i was getting 7.5k or 15k every 5 minutes so I had close to 3m when I got to the point where i could buy the castle. And that's after consistently buying all the stuff from all the stores for days on end to increase the quality of their items.

Do some work at the pub, buy the pub and the blacksmith of Bowerstone.
When you own the blacksmith or if there is a good reduction, buy all the expensive weapons and sell it at Fairfax Garden to gain money quickly.
And keep buying shops as soon as you can.

You will quickly understand how you can amassing quickly the money.

So, I must understand that nobody finished the game here.

Amassing money is actually really easy. Invest all your cash into property. It really is that simple.

Before I had finished the game I owned every property and shop that was purchasable in the game. I had over a million gold sitting around doing nothing by the time I got to Bloodstone, which went down quite a bit after (buying everything in it). Then after finishing the game and NOT choosing the 'evil' ending, I had over a million gold sitting there again and the first thing I did was buy Fairfax Castle.

My save game hasn't progressed much from there because that's where the glitch happened for me and I stopped playing it. The patch doesn't fix the problem either so unfortunately for me, even though I still look back fondly on the game, I refuse to play it and won't be buying the DLC.

I was saving up for Fairfax when some British kid called out that he was buying up Hero dolls. I asked him how much he was willing to give me: he said $2 million gold.

Sold.

Im guessing Mohonky finished it quicker than the average person will. playing at 3am you tend to do that, as you will only be up playing that late if youre fairly engaged. Thus one would not waste time exploring.

I could be wrong. But its never happened before.

I chose "The Sacrifice" to be as goody-goody as possible, but then in the DLC in order to
resurrect your dog
you have to
sacrifice an innocent civilian! Now everybody is calling me a murderer.
Dammit. :lol

EDIT: Better?

You failed to spoiler the biggest spoiler.

I only got one of the achievements (the 50G one for completing all the weather quests). The expansion is pretty short but I love all the new stuff thrown in there. The potions that make your character shorter just what I needed. No need to unlearn Skills to make my character shorter. And the new dyes are actually reds, blues and greens instead of approximations of the colors with weird names. I really enjoyed seeing a lot of that new small stuff.

I put the disc in for the first time today. The training portion was absolutely beautiful, the Dickens motif really works well. Then I got disgusted by how much of a butch lesbian my character grew up in to. So of course when I got to Bowerstone instead of continuing the quest, I found an upscale husky woman whom I charmed into marriage by farting at her and falling on my ass while dancing. Then I moved her in to my Gypsy shack and went back to Bowerstone and put my large man hands to work becoming an expert Blacksmith. After building up that gold, I went back to my tub of lard wife, bought the gypsy cart right next to hers, and seduced the drunk outside of it. Popped out a baby asap and my two worthless mates encounter each other for the first time and start bickering right in front of the crib. Me being the caring mother I am, decide it best not to raise a child in all this chaos. After attempting to plunge my sword in to the crib, I take dear old daddy out back and plug him. Oh and in the mean time my ugly hag of a wife runs off and I murder the traveling performer that looks like a goddamn juggling clown. And then redouble my promise to the guard to kill those pesky rats.

This game... I knew I would like it.

I just got done with the DLC. About 2-ish hours, maybe close to 3. It was pretty satisfying. The dungeons in this DLC were the most well-designed of the game. Plus, how the island is effected by weather is interesting. I just can't find one of the books on the island. WTF. Where did I miss one...

satisfying just really really short.

I started playing it this weekend, and am just now at the Crucible. I'm not really feeling it. Should I press on or just move on at this point? Have I pretty much gotten far enough to know if it's for me or not?

I cannot find the "Murgo's Big Book of Trading" for one of the DLC achievements at all. I need two of them and it looks like my economy across the entirety of Albion is too high for the book to appear. If anybody has a couple of them shoot me a line on Live and I'll pay money unless you just want to be nice and give them to me. :D

Gamertag = UraMallas

Eh, keep going for a bit. Do the side quests especially that pop up over the next few steps of the main quest.
